People saying Pitou is a boy is one of the biggest and longest running misconceptions in this series. She was never intended to be a trap or ambiguous like some other anime characters. She often uses gender neutral terminology to refer to herself but "gender neutral" language is common in non-English languages. Togashi has referred to Pitou in interviews as a girl. The Japanese fan-base never had any confusion over her sex because her way of speaking is not unusual.

Also, who GIVES AF, theyre literally fictional creatures.

Concerning the English translation, the official translator said she assumed Pitou was boy in a podcast (listen at 11:57) https://hwcdn.libsyn.com/p/3/6/b/36be19fcfc8b7729/SJ_Podcast_51.mp3?c_id=7146642&cs_id=7146642&expiration=1577213229&hwt=3759760e67d479d892b4dbae9be63fa6 Because in the beginning Pitou was very "creepy", she assumed she was a boy (and I guess it's also because Pitou use boku). She asked the anime director of hxh 2011 and he had no doubt Pitou was a girl. The translator finally says "pitou is a girl".
