Indeed so. Unless you have incredibly marginal spacecraft like the Apollo LEM, which had about the thickness of a beer can between the astronauts and the big dark. But practical spacecraft will have some thickness to the hull.

One thought that crossed my mind is that from the looks of it, you'll never see the outer hull from the inside of a spaceship or station. There will be layers of insulation, wires, and interior panels. "Slapping a patch on a hole" really isn't a choice. You're better off with a can of foaming sealant and spray the beejeebus out of the hole and hope it seals. then you'd have to disassemble the panel to get at the hole and then patch it.
