Lilith's intended plan would have been harmless to Eda's magic in the long run, but this wasn't just a random training match she sabotaged. It was THE fight, that would grant entry into the Emperor's Coven, which Lilith believed to be both sisters' dream. That would be like tying your siblings shoe laces together before a 100 m dash on the exact day where a scout from a professional sports team is visiting the school. Directly sabotaging their once-in-a-lifetime chance to be scouted and become a professional athlete. Even if everything had gone exactly as Lilith planned, this would still have been a horrible thing to do to your own sister. Not unforgivable, but very much a big betrayal.

I think the line "I thought it would only be for a day" really changes how we perceive Liliths cursing. Like what she thought it would be was the equivalent of tying someones shoelaces together before a 100m dash. Cheating yes. But ultimately harmless in the long run. Instead her actions made her sister permanently disabled. The guilt must've been immense. Especially since Eda surrendered on her own. Which would only make it easier for the cult leader that is Belos to manipulate her. Not that he'd need much help since as we've seen through out s1, the emperors will dominates the entire culture of the Boiling Isles

Belos was not initially conceived as being emperor of the Boiling Isles during development. Instead, he would have been an advisor to an insect-like emperor named "Pupa". In this scenario, Emperor Pupa would still be a cocoon, secretly prevented from hatching by Belos, who claims to be able to communicate with the cocoon.

Fun Fact: if you take the first letter of the titles of each episode of the season you get a secret message... which is... "A WITCH LOSES A TRUE WAY" which could refer to Eda losing her magic at the end of the season, or Luz losing the means to go back to the Human Realm. Also there are coded messages hidden in the background of every episode as well... and when you decipher and combine them you get this... "TWO WITCHES TORN APART, NOW ALONE, TWO HEARTS OF STONE, A CURSE OF FEATHERS AND MUD, A BETRAYAL OF BLOOD" This is obviously in reference to Eda and Lilith's relationship, the Owl Curse, and the fact that Lilith was the one who cursed Eda.

I find it interesting that Lilith thought it would only last a day, and she described as a "spell that would take away her powers" (rather than "curse"). Kinda makes me wonder if she confused it for a different scroll.
