Star Wars: The Phantom Menace I

WOO HOOO

Star Wars: The Phantom Menace I

Comments

Not sure if it was mention, but little piece of info is that when it was down to Obi, and Maul the duel was actually slowed down, because when they were performing they were so fast no one thought movie goers would believe it.

Branson Russell

The gungan shields in the big battle are adapted versions of what they use to create their underwater cities, that's why it's so much more advanced than most of their other tech, it's core to their society.

Kyllix

Alicia, you were right about the force fields. There were multiple fields separating Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and Maul. That scene, and the bit where we pick back up on the three of them, is deemed a good example of “Show, Don’t Tell” acting from Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor and Ray Park. All three perfectly portray how the characters are feeling. Qui-Gon, ever the faithful Jedi Master, is calm and serene, thinking only of readying himself for the clash ahead. Obi-Wan, ever the loyal Padawan, wishes only to rush to Qui-Gon’s side, and put an end to a battle that is already going wrong. And Maul, vicious and steeped in the Dark Side, paces like a caged beast, awaiting the chance to slaughter his Jedi enemies.

Noah Weathers

Cube Pylum

Pretty impressive to immediately noticing the Nathalie Portman/Kiera Knightley switcheroo. First time I saw the movie I was completely bamboozled. Bot that might have been because I was 12.

Martijn Derese

He did bring balance to the force! Now that you have seen the movies it makes perfect sense!

Azi

He did not Alicia guessed it.

Azi

All I’m gonna say, is the this episode gets out in yt, you’d better hope all the comments against the mom gets edited out because y’all are going to be absolutely roasted for misunderstanding her

Tacotuesday

George is such a great Storyteller that you have to watch a 6 season animated show that does all the heavy lifting in an attempt to band-aid this terrible trilogy lmao.

Eliteguard99

So, I actually went to school with the guy who played Anakin. Admittedly, it was high school, and years after this movie. But he was not a very nice person. Maybe as a protective thing, but he was still a dick.

Zachary Randolph

A lot of the questions you guys have during this movie and the next movie and the last movie of the series are actually answered in the animated series the clone wars I highly recommend you watch that entire series. It really improves the storytelling and these three movies cause a lot happens between this movie and the next movie and the following movie That are not shown except for within that series and it explains a lot of stuff that they kind of pushed to the side in the films.

Daisy Azuras

Anakin‘s mom did not bet on the Pod race It was one of the huts that owned her as a slave and that hut traded her after they lost the pod race. I know you missed that part. You guys were kind of yapping about something else when they were talking about how they ended up as slaves every now and then you should probably pause to talk that way you don’t miss some of the more important plot points.

Daisy Azuras

Theres a whole game about pod racing, and its awesome one of my favorites as a kid

Eric

0:29:00, alicia being able to endure the whole water scene without having a meltdown shows how much that phobia has improved

sebas hernandez

Anakin's mom didn't gamble herself into slavery, she was captured when she was young and forced into slavery. This isn't covered in the movie but is in additional canon. The part about them being acquired by Watto in a gamble was a bet Watto had made with the Hutts, who owned her at the time.

Kinji

Y’all should react to the YouTube “How… should’ve ended” They do many popular movies. https://youtube.com/@howitshouldhaveended?si=qaqRFKyPWnDn0UJT

Yaboi7117

Loved the E. Mcgregor fun fact. From the LEGO Star Wars films they even made Jarjar the sith lord. It was a good laugh and it’s a kid show so I didn’t watch it. But yes Jarjar is hated on for no reason, he may be clumsy but he is intelligent, he eventually becomes a Representative senator for Naboo.

Yaboi7117

Even the old school arcade games were dope.

Yaboi7117

Unfortunately yes, it’s the price of talking over the movie not knowing when the next line hits. Many streamers are guilty of this.

Yaboi7117

34:25 ..and then we get R2 after.. I wonder if that's the same red one. that'd be kinda cool.. 34:45 (red one is absolutely blasted from existence) nevermind!😂🤣

Rhodair

Sadly coma spoiled natalie portman's role as the queen.

Jcbat21

Yeah... sadly, you're right, the child actor that played young Anakin did not have the best time in life. He WAS bullied mercilessly, has since had a psychotic break (diagnosed paranoid schizophrenia), and spent at least a year in a psychiatric facility as of earlier this year. https://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/pop-culture-news/actor-who-played-anakin-skywalker-child-swears-star-wars-good-flna382837 https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/star-wars-child-actor-mental-health-rehab-psychotic-break-1235851539/

Rainet

There is a pod racer game currently in the works and with a demo playable and free on Steam called "Deathgrip" which I highly recommend along with the official "Star Wars Episode I Racer" video game which is also ported to Steam.

Kerbin Centurion

I knew things were bad, but I just read his wikipedia page and holy shit, things were so much worse than I imagined. It's heartbreaking, that family had it hard.

hemahemahema

They don't listen to the story and make up their own. Its annoying that way.

Marcello Reyes

Casually pointing out here that Alicia is fawning over a 16 year old Natalie Portman

Duo Blackrose

Also I was almost in tears from laughing when Alicia started talking about Pirates 3 and what Kiera Knightley was wearing as looking like the outfit here due to it in fact being Kiera Knightley that was wearing it.

Vetrais

While I wasn't really a fan of the mother's performance, it's a pity she got such a bad rap in this reaction due to mishearing what was said. She was also a slave. Their former owner was the the gambler that traded both of them.

Vetrais

Actually suprised they found the pacing bad I grew up with the Prequels though so they are what I learned to love about star wars

Karatsuki

They really do be having trust issues about parents to the point that they immediately assume parent sell their child to slavery when slaves and parents are mentioned together

Karatsuki

Only one id put above it is anakin vs obi-wan in revenge of the sith, but that has alot of emotional weight added to it

Unstablebeast

Darth Maul vs Obi-wan & Qui-gon is the best live action fight imo. There are a few that beat it for me but they're all from other media.

Mojo

fun fact, i believe in the novelisation it was expanded upon that the chance cube that watto used was weighted to fall on red, but qui gon obv made it roll blue, but ofc watto couldnt prove qui gon cheated without admitting that he himself was cheating which is why he got so pissed at the outcome, knowing he was swindled somehow but not being able to confront about it lol

The_Spud_Player

1:16:50 : there's actually a Pod Racing game Alicia ;) Called Episode 1 Racer, with a re-release on consoles very recently ;)

Ryzomreal

The saberstaff concept was already a thing, it was just adapted from the 1995 comic book miniseries "Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi – Dark Lords of the Sith", in which Exar Kun used a dualsaber.

0th Law

Yeah funny thing is yes that Nat Portman and her decoy is Keira Knightley before she got too popular. She picked her because of how similar she looked to Portman. Also it wasn’t Anakin’s mother who got them enslaved, she like anakin were enslaved at birth. They we’re owned by a female hutt who lost them to the blue flying guy in a bet. And yes anakin is space Jesus ppl absolutely hated jar jar when this film came out never really understood the hate thou And a little fun fact they had to edit most of Ewan Mcgregor’s lightsaber scenes because my guy couldn’t stop making lightsaber sounds with his mouth while filming 😂😭😂

Nightmareman99

Chosen to bring balance to the force by destroying both sides.

Joel Sasmad

Never forget, Mirio "Lemillion" from MHA has a move named after this movie.

Logan B.

I don't know if this was already said but if you look at the behind scenes for this movie but the audience in the stands of the pod racing section when seen from afar is actually painted cotton swabs

Nikki Atalatne

He was chosen to fuck and have kids lmao

WillGlacier

Ill never understand jar jar haters. My boi is a vibe

Artemis

Better response :D

Porpoise Power

Maybe... usually though that's got a limited term of service, and Schmee would have been signing up for it. In the case of indentured servitude, historically that was a "payment" for immigrating to the American Colonies, something with a lot more prospect than tatooine... Kind of implies Schmee was on the run. Which would fit in with some of the BS canon presented in episode 9.

Porpoise Power

2:24:13 Nope. Its been long confirmed that Anakin was the chosen one.

J-Rod

Anakin mom didn't gamble themselves into slavery their previous owner lost them while gambling.

J-Rod

i don't know how i missed the like....4 consecutive mindtricks Qui-gon pulls on Boss Nass. good lord, dude is just skipping through dialogue

Daniel Siegfried

I hope they eventually realize that they misread it and Anakin's mom wasn't the one who gambled him away. They really are hating on her quite a lot for it at the point ive watched to

Trent Cannon

fun fact the fight scene between maul and obi-wan was slowed down because they were moving so fast

shadowfire

the dangers of not paying attention

Kap

Anakins mom didnt put them into slavery, their previous owner gambled his mom and anakin away. Talking mad shit without paying attention.

Kap

There’s a whole star wars game about pod racing

DarkChaos

imma cook ya noodle on this one . sometimes when their are 1000s of jedi and 2 sith balence isnt the good thing you think it is

Lance Ivy

ankin got more bodies than he got years his whole life

Lance Ivy

when qui gon nelt down he was alining himself with the force calming his emotions .

Lance Ivy

aslo kids movie with funny talking lizard fish man

Lance Ivy

there are debbter slaves not chattle slaves think more irish indentured servants than african slave trade

Lance Ivy

Darth Maul is a menace for real, that man does not play. I forgot Obi-Wan turned up after that tho, he went from zero to nah yo life is mine!

Bocchi In Shadow

So there is a fan theory that Jar Jar Binks is a sith lord. If you watch this again you can notice a lot of things where it makes sense. Him being in the right place at the right time, always around important plot conversations, him waving his hands around like he was using the force. Of course we will never know if that was the original intention. When that theory got very wide spread they made sure it didn't happen in the movies.

YukoValis

I’m glad you didn’t completely hate on jar jar I feel like the original fans of Star Wars were extremely too harsh on this movie granted it wasn’t perfect but the fact they rapidly bullied and sent death threats to the voice actor of jar jar because of this it pushed him to near suicide

James Fernandez

ITS THE ONE!!! ITS THE ONE WITH THE SONG!!! Du DA Dunuluh Du DA Dunuluh Everyone knows it! :3

Fobbles

When people say they age like fine wine… Liam Neeson ages like Ice… or water. He just doesn’t change

Fobbles

I feel bad for the Mom, they misunderstood hard, she did not lose her and her kid to gambling lol.

Okoga

This movie really undercuts what it is/was to be a slave... Anakin and his mother have far too nice of a house, don't have scars from being whipped, have plenty of food, and can basically walk around seemingly freely.

Porpoise Power

Maul was actually nerfed in that fight. In one of the books we get to see what Maul was doing before all this. I read this in middle school so I may get this a bit wrong. A pirate got REALLY lucky and managed to hit him in the shin with a vibro axe. That pirate is now, of course, very dead. Sith can gain power through pain and other negative emotions, but half a muscle is still half a muscle. Especially one he didnt have time to properly deal with and hid from Sidious. So it got sand all in it on Tattooine. Man was in a 1v2 with an open sandy wound cutting straight into leg muscles.

Rellius6669

Samuel L. Jackson he's in your marvel he's in your Star Wars, he's everywhere

WindWarriorPlays

and I like jar jar bings!

Monsi7

4:00 That is actually how Jedi become knights. Padawans, if hair is present, have a ponytail that indicates that status, which is then cut off in a ceremony. Its shown in Clone Wars 2003

N00B

i love the sound of the pod racers imagen hearing this for the first time at the theaters surround sound

Sleeping Cat Studios

btw a little correction Alicia: Shmi Skywalker (anakin's mother) didn't lose to a bet on those podrace, they were both Originally the property of Gardulla the Hutt, whom lost them both in a bet on those Podraces.

GT QcNumber1 Vézina

That is the only way Jar Jar can be redeemable.

Rokuta

I like how this has a Shikanoko Nokonko Koshitantan reference

Shank Mugen

Ray Park (Darth Maul's actor) was actually a professional Gymnist and a martial artist at the time. They recruited him for his athletic ability to give darth maul's character an extra agile fighting style over the jedi. It was the first time the double-bladed lightsaber was debuted and the idea was made special for him because he also had alot of experience fighting with a bo-staff in martial arts tournaments. And Quigon was trying to draw strength from the force and have a short rest by meditating when the force field closed between him and darth maul. Quigon also tried to find anakin and make sure he was ok while he was reaching out into the force. He could see anakin was in space, thats why in the background you can hear a slight clicking sound just before the force fields open again if you listen closely.

David Willard

Jar Jar Binks was so hated George Lucas had to re-write his scripts to erase Jar Jar from being in it from anything more than a cameo in the next movies. There have been theories that Jar Jar was suppose to be a villain along side Palpatine.

Crazyone

11:45 no among us joke?...

Memento Forever

D:

Leticia

8:16 "They must be dead by now. Destroy what's left of them." - PEAK WRITING rofl. I'm happy for Jar Jar that she got a fan. I don't really like her, but I feel she too often became the punching bag of the fans' disappointment with the prequels. And that's probably undeserved.

leviathan_13

Quaqmire Jinn: "Giggidy"

Vik Persson

🤣😂 that was just fans mocking the character, but also noticing this "luck" he has, which exactly become this kind of 'chaos Force' that he emanates, which was later on kinda explained, not for him but in general, in Rebels, and then people connected the dots, he is kinda like usopp in that regard, he isnt super useful, but nobody can predict what's gonna happen with him around, not even him 😂🤣😅😂🤣😅

Faroth

Also as raz al gul in batman, he didnt kill it directly, just "let him die" in the monorail

Faroth

seeing Alicia getting scared during the underwater part has to be one of my favorite parts in this

Ronix

I deeply hate jar jar bings!

MoD+

I've heard the Sith Jar Jar theory a lot, but I've never seen anything official to make it anything other than a viral fan theory. Either way, it's bad.

BakaSama

Fun fact, when it comes to to Hollywood swordfighters, Liam Neeson was the greatest of his time. So much so that, during his final duel with Maul's actor, they had to keep asking him to hold back.

Edward French

Ahh, the 2 types of Star Wars fans: "Aww, Jar Jar is so CUTE!" "Oh my god he is so ANNOYING!"

Timmetry

It’s funny how not hearing a line correctly can color a person’s view of someone. Like Alicia seeing Shmi Skywalker as someone who was such a gambling addict that she’s sell her own son into slavery.

PotterBrony

Fun fact, when there were filming the door between Obi-Wan and Darth Maul, they had to tell the actors to slow down because they were moving so fast the camera couldn’t fully track them.

Uncle Urdnot

Brother I COMPETLY forgot who played Windu that shit hit me HARD lmaooo

WillGlacier

Fun fact: The Celebration song played at the end of episode 1 is a sped-up version of the Emperors theme from Episode 6!!!

Nim

I guess Kingdom of Heaven and A Million Ways to Die in the West were a bit indirect, but I'd usually count them lol

QuibblesAndGitz

Not alicia talking about Keira Knightley in this outfit while looking at Keira Knightley in the outfit

Lightinger

Hell shit I’m sure I’m super late but I didn’t know you knew a restaurant

Uncle Urdnot

wait. I just realized, they recorded episodes 1-3 already. So she can't be spoiled by what you said. However, other people who are following along Alicia and watching the movies for the first time can be spoiled. Also, you mentioning it as a "fun fact" is utterly pointless as it is stated in episode 3.

Sancturillore -- Élie Simard-Wallot

edit your comment. Your "final fun fact" is a spoiler.

Sancturillore -- Élie Simard-Wallot

There's a version on Steam that works with modern pcs by the way.

Sancturillore -- Élie Simard-Wallot

yeah. It's so funny that she mentioned Keira Knightley from the outfit since it's actually her wearing it in that scene.

Sancturillore -- Élie Simard-Wallot

Yeah they missed the line were their previous owner lost them gambling.

Jobbe Smit

There's also a steam version.

Sancturillore -- Élie Simard-Wallot

Thank you

Aaro Tiljander

Actually, Jar Jar was likely meant to secretly be Darth Plageus the Wise. That’s why in the first two movies he’s so suspiciously lucky and gets every character to do exactly what he suggests, even when it makes no sense. There’s also the fact that every Gungan is absolutely terrified of him despite his claims that he was just banished for being a goofy silly guy.

unknown organism

The problem isn’t that Jar Jar is there; it’s that his original plot line as an undercover Sith got scrapped which retroactively made the goofy persona he puts on to trick people into his actual personality.

unknown organism

It's crazy how I remember more of this movie from the lego star wars games lmao

WillGlacier

Phantom menace is tough, they had like 3 plotlines intertwined that split off right at the end. The pacing may be bad, but I'd still argue this is the most important film in the saga. Palpatine l's power move, and the battle for anakin's future The heroes won the day, but lost the ideal father figure for Anakin, and Palpatine won his power bid

Pockets

It's still crazy to me that JarJar was annoying enough for his dad to commit unalive

Blooocki :3

it is so refreshing to see someones first impression of this franchise. I can

Levi Price

Alicia gonna flip her lid when she finds out who plays the queen's decoy.

Stuart R McCafferty

I'm actually itching to play that again

vincent shiflett

darth maul's background is really sad tho, we know he scary af but, his story is super sad

Joyo Boy

Fun Fact: You've actually seen Theed (capitol of Naboo) before. There was a glimpse in episode 6, at the end of the movie, where people across the galazy were celebrating. Theed was one of those shots.

Wil DeYoung

I have the starwars pod racing game on my n64, still a great game

Andrew

Fun fact: the race of baddies you guys keep gooning over are called Twi'leks. Also fun fact: The immaculate music at the end for the fight between Qui-Gon & Obi Wan and Darth Maul is called "Duel Of The Fates" and is basically considered Darth Maul's theme, used in a lot of Star Wars media, and possibly the most popular single soundtrack from a Star Wars movie, up there with the main theme and The Imperial March. Related Fun Fact: Qui-Gon sat down to meditate when him and Maul were separated by barriers just to do just that, meditate. There was no other motive. From a movie-making standpoint it was also to illustrate a difference between the Jedi and Sith, when the Jedi got paused mid-fight, he sat to meditate and calm down and clear his mind, when the Sith got paused mid-fight he paced around and amped himself up to keep the aggression going. It also factors into how the fight plays out with Obi Wan, he let his rage fuel him and, while he looked cool, he lost to Maul and was lucky not to die, then while hanging onto the side, he had a moment to breathe, calm down, and focus on what he can do to get out of this, and just like that he ended the battle in one swift strike. Fun Fact That Isn't A Spoiler Seeing As You Already Did All The Prequels: Qui-Gon dying was possibly the most important event in the entire series. Obi Wan said it himself, he was not ready to train Anakin, and the Jedi Council shunned him and wouldn't accept him because he didn't fit into their rules. But Qui-Gon had shown to be exactly the kind of father figure Anakin needed to be a good Jedi (with Obi Wan growing to be more of a brother figure than anything), being steadfast and wise and holding true to the morals and ideals of being a Jedi, while also not being afraid to bend or break some of the rigid rules in the Jedi's republic if it means he stays true to those ideals. If he hadn't died, who knows how the story could've gone, we can only guess. Fun Fact About The Chosen One: Anakin is the chosen one. Luke is not. The chosen one brings balance to the force, and depending on the way you take this Anakin did this in 2 ways. 1: The Jedi were overwhelming majority for a long time and so Sith becoming powerful for a while WAS causing balance, or 2: Though he became Vader, eventually, Darth Vader was the one that killed the emperor, and so in a roundabout way Anakin still restored "balance" to the force by eliminating the Sith (though Luke was the one who convinced him). The Final Fun Fact For Now: Qui-Gon was the one who created the Force Ghost technique used by Obi Wan, Yoda, and eventually Anakin in the original trilogy (y'know where they become blue ghosts and say wise shit), though he was not able to yet fully master it by the time he died, leaving him with only audio in his ghost form. But at least he was able to pass on the knowledge so the others could eventually master it. i be making long-ass comments ma fault star wars lore is my shit

Ellerian

I also love how Jar Jar is one of Korone's favorite characters. She was very surprised when she learned from English viewers that Jar Jar isn't liked much. And now Alicia likes him too. I'm super happy!

Sancturillore -- Élie Simard-Wallot

1:52:30 Anakin: master qui-gon, i dont want to be a problem, sir... Qui-gon: dont worry, you wont be... *proceeds to become the biggest problem for everyone in the whole damn galaxy*

Faroth

Anakin's mum didnt sell him, she was a slave too

Gildarts1#fan

It was Gardulla the Hutt that Bet Anakin and his mom, not his mum!!!

Nim

i dont know alot about music, but ive heard that the celebration music at the end of the movie uses the same notes as the emporers main theme just sped up.

Nathaniel Richter

Good lord

Ranginald Vagel

Not as good as the OG Trilogy films, but not as bad as I remembered. And I’m sorry Alicia, but I feel the film would have been much better without your boy JarJar. Good reaction though!

BakaSama

Another thing i want to say.... I will not claim that the Prequels are perfect (because they aren't) but their Political side-plots are necessary, without them the franchise would not be as great as it is. And mind you... the political side-plots of the Prequels are precisely what the fans didn't like about these movies at the time of their release.... they were expecting a blockbuster Adventure story like in the Original trilogy..... they claimed that the politics bogged them down and made the movies needlessly confusing..... But in truth.... i think the real reason why fans didn't like the prequels at that time.... it's because their politics reminded them too much of the politics of our real world, and given that for many people Star Wars was a form of scapism from reality... to be reminded of the political struggles of our own reality is what made them blindly boycot these movies in the first place, without any thought of what all this politicking was actually doing in favor of the overall story.

Julio Castillo

I love the fact that Jar Jar is Alicia’s favorite character 🤣

Gai Valentine

JarJar Binks is a clear example that tjere are Force users that arent jedis or siths He has a certain 'effect' (not control) on the Force, he does stuff, and start a chain reaction that affects in bigger scales and keep growing until stuff happens If he wasnr vanished, he wouldnt meet the jedis, then he wouldnt meet the naboo and then they couldnt ask for help in the fight later on. Then in battle you sae how his Chaos Force works, he does stuff that make things happens, sometimes in favor, sometimes just weird In the CloneWars series this is seem and focused even more, but that is spoilers, so yeah, JarJar is a weird Force user, an agent of Chaos, maybe he traded that power for neurons, idk... 😅😅😅😂🤣

Faroth

Technically Anakin is the chosen one. Even despite his turn to the dark as we see in episode 6 he is the one that directly kills the Emperor/ Sith Lord Palpatine.

Isaac Gonzalez

Ah, yes, the only movie were Liam Neeson is killed directly Anakin's mom didnt bet his son, she was also a slave, tbey were both bet by a Hutt who previously owns them, they didnt say how they become slaves exavtly, maybe just have unpaid debts with the Hutts, like Han solo, so instead of being room decoration like Han Solo, they slave them and bet them on a race

Faroth

I love the prequels in all their cheesiness goodness, but I cannot watch Episode 1 without over-analyzing after I found out about a certain theory that makes too much sense IYNYN

Miguel Martinez

So, there are two main issues with the prequels from a film-making perspective and you've already identified both of them: 1) A lot of stilted dialogue and stiff line reads: By George Lucas' own admission, he's not the best director when it comes to getting good performance out of his actors, and he's not the best writer when it comes to dialogue. Much of the snappiest material from the original trilogy either came from his collaborators or were performance choices made by the actors NOT taking direction from him and improvising. 2) Bloated Pacing: There's a level of self-indulgence in the prequel trilogy. Scrappie Indie wunderkind George Lucas is gone, now it's GEORGE FRICKING LUCAS, richest film-maker in hollywood and creator of two of the most gigantic franchise empires in modern Hollywood history. With his divorce from his wife (who was very influential on his writing and directing of the original trilogy) and his new clout, there is basically no one to tell him no, rein him in...and as much undeniable talent and creativity as the man has, I think it shows. That's not the same thing as the prequels being garbage, and as sour as I was on them back in the day I have mellowed somewhat, because there's legitimately compelling ideas here, some great moments, and some stunning visuals. And of course, through it all John Williams incredible music!

Linnaeus

Oh good, someone said it already!

Captain-Kerfuffle

Gods this reaction was SO GOOD! Seriously, I loved it. A not just, reactionary and bitter take on the movie.. that is still fully open and seeing it's very notable flaws, the pacing, and a lot of very poor line reads and a lot of very... unemotional acting. Which is very much not on the actors, and they did not deserve the shit a lot of them got for it, but on Lucas.... not being good at writing dialog, and not being a great director. This movie showed how much, as much as his vision gave as the peak of the OT, those movies only worked as well because he had a crew that was willing to tell him 'no' and fill in for his weakness. Though to be fair, as much as he gets accused of it, he wasn't trying to surround himself with yes-men and ignore other input for this movie, it was a case of his legendary status by this time as the guy who made Star Wars just made too many people unwilling to give him the feedback he needed and wanted. It's also so amazing seeing someone so blind come in. Especially about who The Emperor is, since by this point anyone even mildly into Star Wars beyond just the movies knew what his name was, so there was no shock about who it was the moment he showed up. Damn the moment it clicked for you was PEAK! loving these reactions so much! And yes, for whatever flaws this movie has..... that fight with Darth Maul remains one of the best damn sequences in the entire franchise!

Seraphem

I love the original 3 more as films, but I love the world building and stuff of the prequel more. The clone wars show helps a lot in that.

IvI

What an amazing thing to wake up to ❤️

TheSilverMane

i hope alicia plays star wars the force unleashed

DankusMemes

Darth Bane Era Sith I'd agree with but the Old Republic Era Sith not so much (despite the stupid fact it's not cannon anymore)

Nim

*Checks Patreon before going to sleep* "This is getting out of hand. Now there are two of them."

CeCactus13

That's just sorta an observation fans have made. Maybe balance does involve more "dark side" but the sith themselves and their philosophy around the dark side should be removed

Talon Karrde

balance isn't inherently good, remember the Jedi were alone for many many years which means there wasn't Sith to balance them.

Speed1247

The "she" probably threw them off, the Hutt that owned them previously was female.

Saiden

Unfortunatley you are spot on, the child actor is now a patient at a psyche ward for multiple mental diseases. i don't know if I was mostly bullying or family drama but he's in a bad state.

NandoTNT

What i like about obi wan not being there at the beginning is that it highlights how it should have been qui gon to train ani. The responsibility of that was thrust upon an unready obi wan and that's why anakin became darth vader. I heard somewhere that the duel of the fates that plays when they fight maul is really a duel of anakins fate on whether qui gon wins and trains him or dies and obi wan trains him and his fate would be drastically different.

Immeasurably Me

IDK why but yall's bashing on Anakin's mom early on after misunderstanding why Ani's a slave (They were born into it, Watto owns them bc their previous owner lost in gambling) is equal parts hilarious and frustrating. Mostly hilarious tho

Adrian_B

Star Wars Episode I: Racer. It was also a Win98 game when it came out on N64. Now I know theres a Switch port, because I jumped on it as soon as it released. Teemto Pagalies ftw.

JAXMerrick

Just to clarify, it wasn't Anakin's mom who gambled them, it was one of the Hutt family who was gambling with that junk dealer

Verdigree

Oh my, my this here Anakin guy Maybe Vader someday later, now he's just a small fry He left his home and kissed his mommy goodbye Sayin', "Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi" Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi

Ave, True to caesar

Holy shit rats are eating so good today!!!

NekoSoophie!

They is a pod racing game on the N64 I think its released on modern consoles as well

Jaffar Black Fang

Ease OFF Shimi Skywalker and open your ears. Shimi was sold to a Hutt and Anakin was just born INTO slavery. Shimi didnt sell her kid.

Marcello Reyes

Fun Fact: the actress that plays the Fake Queen Amidala is Keira Knightley, Elizabeth Swann herself from Pirates of the Caribbean. Also yes..... Anakin is basically Space Jesus Just because we know that Anakin eventually turns into Darth Vader doesn't mean that the Jedi Council is right about him. is true that he's POTENTIALLY dangerous due to his feelings and attachments... but with the right couceling and mentorship he also could've turn into a Great Jedi, THE Best Jedi of all time even (given that's he's literally the Chosen One). (And yes, Anakin is the Chosen One, not Luke, remember that it was Anakin the one who ultimately killed the Emperor and therefore... he was the one who brought Balance to the Force.... just like the Prophecy says.) That right counceling and mentorship was definetely Qui-Gon Jinn, he was wise and patient like any other Jedi Master but unlike the members of the council (or even Obi-Wan) he didn't blindly follow the Jedi Code and let Apathy overtake his moral judgement. It was a big shame that he died, if he didn't... Anakin might never have turned to the Dark Side.

I completely forgot about the underwater segment of this movie and once the scene started, I instantly remembered about your phobia. My initial reaction was "Oh she is in for a very bad time hehe"

DarthRaven117

Correction: Anakin’s mom didn’t bet them in a race, their former owner did.

David Bland

lemme just say...................................... it is VERY REFRESHING TO SEE SOMEONE LOVE JAR JAR AFTER ALL THESE YEARS, HOLY SHIIIIIT

Yagi di Hoshi

The irony of windu and yoda asking which was destroyed while the master stares at them is amazing

roxannesimp

Anikans mom did not gamble Anikan into slavery, she was born into slavery, and so was he, their former owner gambled them to Watto

Talon Karrde

You might be the only person ever to enjoy jar jar

Deadman5125

32:17 Her first role was in Leon: The Professional (one of my favorite movies) when she was 11

Trevor Appel

okay, most of the flak and criticisms was....pretty fair. it's at least a more accepting criticism and not the horrible hatred of when they came out

But... But I was supposed to go to bed on time.... How can I ignore my Anakin love now!?!? Darn you aliciaaaaaaa!!!

Jorden Powell

I totally agree with the thoughts at the end. The world building is great, but it lacks the immaculate pacing of the original trilogy. This is a throughline for all 3 films, admittedly. But on the flipside, as far as stories **outside** of the actual films? That world building pays OFF: easily the most dense era for side stories, the clone wars were *incredibly* ambitious.

PrivateXimmy

in this movie, you can see where Hirohiko Araki sensei got inspiration for a couple jojo characters: Gwess's design (padme's lip & facial makeup. Jolyne's cellmate) & C-Moon (Darth Maul. pucci's secondary stand with the gravity inversions.) The beginning & end of jojo SO had a whole outline & i feel that Phantom Menace here adds merit to that claim.

Yagi di Hoshi

Fun fact, Jar Jar was the first ever fully CGI character in a live action movie

Glasglow

Ooo, both Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones on the same day, time for a binge!

SouthHill

Now imagine a whole theater going "IT'S DOUBLE SIDED?!"

Stunnafour20

Yay prequels! I hope things are going good for you Alicia and that you're on track to reclaiming your YT channels

Caleb Wood

Very interested in your thoughts on these, they got a lot of flak when they came out, but I love many things in them... and cringe at others, unlike the original trilogy Lucas was THE GEORGE LUCAS so there really wasn't anyone who could... reign him in, he had a vision... but thw original trilogy was so perfect because of those below him who could execute it... Here... nobody was ever able or willing to say no

Talon Karrde

Yesss! Last week I watched the phantom menace, and boy it was good! Yesterday I watched the clone wars, good asf too! Loving the prequels so far!

Douglas Ribeiro

The writer of MHA loves Star Wars. In Japanese Mirio’s special attack when he jumps from walls and beats people up is called “Phantom Menace!” :3

Fobbles

We are so close to Clone wars (Both 2003 and 2008) reactions
