Agreed. I think that is a big thing that Fairy Tail bashers don't fully get about the fights. They are not designed to be about who has the more powerful new ability or physical/magical strength. Each fight is designed around showcasing some form of emotional turmoil they must overcome or at the very least, confront.

A lot of stuff happens in the next two episodes, might wanna strap yourself in 😬 Sting's surrender is one of the most misunderstood things that haters of Fairy Tail love to tear down. Glad that you understand his character motivations. Sting's emotions kicked in and made him more powerful against Jiemma whenever he was actually fighting for Lector. In that last faceoff here, though, Sting still wasn't fighting for Lector, he was still acting like he did in the beginning of the tournament, it was still "Look at how strong I am now that I unlocked this new power, I can take on all of you easily." He realized that he was still fighting for pride, not Lector. That was why he realized that he didn't deserve to see Lector, that was why he surrendered. I think it's such a good character arc for him and I wish it wasn't so misunderstood. Yes, their magic is emotion-based. Remember that Lucy speculated that the One Magic which all magic was born from is love. It basically comes from combining their souls with a certain particle in the atmosphere, that's why their emotions can affect its potency.
