...and then you keep on fighting

Oh well, todays development day was another big bag of failure. Well so i got the new girl model finished and exported the model, animation and morphs. Took like forever. Then I imported them into the engine and after around an hour of waiting i had it crash to eternity - out of memory.

So i exported again - reduced the number of morphs, waited for ages and imported it again after freeing as much memory as possible.

Imported for another hour -finally got a model with morphs and it turns out the animation were converted to garbage. Great.

Lesson learned - never import animations AND morphs in one file.

So exported again -this time without morphs - much quicker. Imported again and after just like 30 minutes i got the model and animation. Checked animation file - looked nice. Tested the animation with the model and guess what - the jewlery i added as props did not animate, so i had some hovering earrings and necklace. Great! Never export animated props -it will just fail. Cool bug. Doh! I'll try to export some jewlery as "clothing" instead if i got time.

Fixed some minor stuff - turn speed adjusted to a quarter.

Exported model without jewlery and imported it - and suddenly it was already late evening.

Geez I'm so tired. I definitely need a USB stick large enough to transfer sources between work and home so i can (sometimes) continue working at home a bit.

On the bright side - some nice fanboy (Hi Chris!) gifted me an old Oculus DK2. Yay! But it is a bit of a mixed bag i must say. With the latest driver i had loads of problems on my old laptop. In the end i had to disconnect that tracking camera to have it working stable. I must admit the DK2 with one tracking camera is not that much of "roomscale VR". You can move a bit forward/backward and to the sides, but not really like walk around much. The action radius is very limited and small and as i said i always had it crashing after more or less play.

In the end it's cool to see my game in real stereoscopic 3D, but pretty much all of the issues i have are with the controllers. So in the long run this is neat but i still have to get a real Vive or Oculus (or both) with the controllers to solve the most important issues.

Sad development day? Yeah a bit. Was hoping for more progress. But it's also good to learn a bit more about FBX import, morphs, animations and the rest. I'll have to master this anyways - sooner or later. Because loads of different girls means loads of different models, animations and morphs.

I totally forgot to make some screenshots, the new girlmodel looks pretty nice - lingerie plus real clothes, so loads of stuff to undress. Well the jewlery had to go - for now. But yeah we'll get a better game every day. Or in YOUR case - with every release. So stay tuned for next weeks release. I hope i got something new finished by monday or tuesday.
