Announcing Rockin' Resort

Hello and welcome to the November devlog. Or, well, the November BONUS devlog! This month, there will likely be two devlogs as I'd also like to update you all on Lust Potions development, so consider this a bonus.

Anyhow, this post has been a long time coming. Rockin' Resort was originally developed as a concept back in 2020, back before I had started work on Date an Otter. Development got pretty far before my partner on the project was arrested of all things. It took over a year to hear back from them and get the OK to continue the project on my own, so I'm excited to finally get these characters out into the world. 

The other dev is no longer on this project and I've decided to rework much of the original concept with my additional 2 years of gamedev experience. This means this is now an all Sour project!

What is Rockin' Resort?

Rockin' Resort is a adult visual novel where you, the player, win an all expenses paid vacation with your favorite all girl band! Upon arriving, however, the band is on the verge of breaking up. With only one week before a major concert, can you help the band smooth things over? More than that, can you find the courage to ask out one of the girls amidst all this?

There will be four heroines to romance: Crystal Summers, Julia Becker, Amber Summers, and Eleanor Reed. All four are members of the protagonist's favorite rock band (I still need to decide on a band name) . 

The game will be similar to my previous VNs, but instead of running through ren.py, I've decided to continue development with Godot. Part of the reason for this is that I want to include additional gameplay elements like map movement and potentially some animated sequences that would be impossible with ren.py.

The largest change from my previous VNs is that there will be a focus on affection values instead of branching story paths. This means that the branching story paths will not change the main plot as much, but you'll have a better opportunity to focus on interactions with a single girl on each playthrough. 

The Characters:

From left to right: Crystal Summers, Julia Becker, Amber Summers, Eleanor Reed

Crystal Summers: Vocals + Guitar

Crystal is the serious frontman of the band. She writes most of their songs. She doesn't express it well, but she cares a lot about the band and their fans. 

Julia Becker: Lead Guitar

Julia is Crystal's best friend and cofounder of the band. She loves anything 80's and is a lot more flirty than the other girls. Unfortunately, she doesn't date fans.

Amber Summers: Drums

Amber was drafted into the band because she's Crystal's younger sister. Easily the member of the group with the most energy, Amber loves rock music and performing with the band.

Eleanor Reed: Bass

Despite not being into rock initially and being a bit quiet, Eleanor joined the band after making friends with Amber in jazz band. She's the most knowledgeable musician of the group.

Also, meet Coral:

Coral is the mascot of the in-game resort (Coral Cove) that you'll see in promotional art. She's a cute calico cat who loves long walks on the beach and secrets. She's not one of the heroines, but I still thought you should meet her.

I have a lot more to share about Rockin' Resort in the future, but that's all for right now. I'll be working on this in the back end while I work on finishing up Lust Potions, so it may be a bit before I can give another big update. Still, I'm excited to finally be able to share these characters after all this time.
