On rewatch I actually think Daemon told Blood and Cheese any son would do if they couldn't find Aemond. The scene cuts away when they ask what they should do if they can't find him, and when they're in Helaena's room they're quoting "a son for a son," implying that's what Daemon told them was the requirement.

At first I thought the blood and cheese scene was really calm compared to the books. But after watching it again its actually way more intense this way. Agree with you McKay! Cregan Stark looks sick and this show looks amazing. The costumes and set designs are amazing and there’s so many little details. The cinematography is on a whole other level from regular TV and is on par with great films.

You could argue Cinematography is better in HoTD but that's it I feel. GoT has some of the best written dialogue I've seen, a lot better than HoTD's, it's what differentiates itself from other series, the best scenes in GoT where just two people having a conversation. The acting in too, it's insanely good in GoT. Settings and costumes in GoT makes it feels a lot more real, less CGI being used, it grounds you better imo, although HoTD's style makes everything look more epic. Like the guys said HoTD is more fast paced, that's not ideal imo, GoT's more laid back style grips you better, makes you feel more attached, that's due to better dialogue, writing and acting as well. Both great shows but GoT is one of the best shows of all time for a reason.

Now we get our characters' resolve and motivations on full throttle, no time for bullshit. Might be an actual banger season, I really hope it delivers. I'm expecting Rhyneara's (I don't know people's names) oldest son to get some interesting development this season. I need some extra development for Aemond and Aegon as well, they've become pretty interesting. There's a lot of potential with these characters, I know the books are written already but I still feel like the show needs to cook in GoT's level, I need the writing to go sicko mode, I want to feel shit. First season was like a 6,5 or 7/10 and I feel like this season can go a lot higher with everything already set up.

I agree that they shouldn't have changed it, but I believe it was probably pushing the brinks of a horror genre which is not what they wanted. Even though the Blood and Cheese scene wasn't as brutal as the books, it was still horrible. I doubt they could just SHOW a kid being decapitated. The sound effects of it were awful enough. Really, my only critique on it is that Helaena didn't react like how she did in the books. But maybe next episode, it starts off with her!

The sword in the beginning with Cregan Stark was Ice. The reason they took the dog was because certain breeds were bred to catch and kill rats and other rodents, such as rat terriers. And this dog looked like some type of terrier. In Medieval times Rat Catchers were used quite regularly. Although having them wandering around the castle at night like that didn’t seem very likely. But if you rewatch the episode you will see that the character named Cheese is shown quite a few times in the background of various scenes, as they were getting the audience used to the presence of Rat Catchers in the castle.

I’ve seen people say it’s established that she’s not very physically or verbally reactive to violence (ex - Vaemond’s death & Rhaenys almost smoking them all) so it's in line with this version of her character. She reacts but it’s subdued. Some people freeze up during trauma, but the premonitions could have something to do with it too. Like, it’s just setting in that her dreams are now reality. I think it’s an interesting acting choice. I understand finding it weird tho, since most of us wouldn't react like that. I’ve also heard that her reaction is very different in the book

phia is an amazing actress so I believe it was a directing choice, since the directors did a pretty poor job on the scene as a whole in my opinion. in the books the scene is WAY different and way more brutal and haeleana acts very differently in them. in the show, haeleana has a couple scenes in the first season and her general attitude and behavior leads many to believe she is somewhere on the autism spectrum so this was a dissociative reaction from her. i'm not totally sure though, i'm just disappointed with the scene as a whole so im taking it out on the directors LOL

Is there a convincing explanation for why Helena has barely any humanlike reaction to the trauma she is witnessing in that last scene? Any person in that situation would be shivering, crying, or would be in MUCH more VISIBLE distress... either her actress did a weirdly poor job, which I find hard to believe given how I haven't seen almost ANY bad acting in the entirety of GOT or HOTD... so is it a directing choice? I can understand some people simply freeze in fear, but I don't think she pulled even this convincingly, IF that was even the intent. Is it because she has already seen this happen in her dreams where she sees the future, so that moment for her was such a huge mindfuck that she didnt know how to react so her whole mental state shattered due to shock? I have a lot of personal experience with actual death of my family and it has never been that clean as the actress has portrayed it. She almost portrayed it as if she felt barely more than something exciting. I dont feel her blood is either boiling nor freezing. I just am not getting the reaction from her that the horror in that scene requires. She barely has any tears in her eyes while her child's head is being slowly cut off, and then as she is saying THE WORDS of it with her mouth to her mother, she can actually utter them as if it was nothing. I, myself even to this day cannot utter THOSE words about some of my family members that aren't with us anymore. I havent read the books so can anyone give some perspective on that? Maybe her dragon dreaming changes this perspective?

In the book Daemon specifically orders one of aegons sons to be killed (not aemond) and alicent is forced to watch. The show makes this murder an accident to make daemon seem less evil and adds a sex scene for alicent instead of her being in the room so people won’t feel as sympathetic for her.
