The soft breeze rustled the edges of the parchment as if urging him to make a decision. The sun hung low on the horizon, casting a warm golden glow over the landscape, as if bidding farewell to another eventful day in this enchanted world.
As he pondered his next move, the memories of his recent battle with the Bloodhound Knight, Darriwil, still fresh in his mind, Adrian couldn't help but feel a mix of exhilaration and fatigue. The confrontation had been intense, testing his skills and pushing him to the limits of his abilities. He had emerged victorious, but the encounter had left him drained, both physically and mentally.
With a furrowed brow, he contemplated his options. The southwestern portion of the map held bountiful resources he had already harvested without resistance, but his heart yearned for new challenges, and new frontiers to explore. His eyes were inevitably drawn to the imposing Stormveil Castle, standing tall and defiant between the regions of Limgrave and Liurnia.
"I've already picked everything I could pick up without resistance in Limgrave and the Weeping Peninsula..." Adrian mused aloud, his voice echoing slightly in the serene surroundings. His gaze drifted northward, where the allure of Liurnia beckoned with promises of untold wonders.
"I could move on to Liurnia and pick up some more seeds, tears, and smithing stone..." he murmured, considering the potential rewards that awaited him in the mysterious realm.
His mind raced with possibilities as he weighed the risks and rewards of venturing into Liurnia. The region housed many upgrade items. But it was also filled with peril, teeming with formidable adversaries Adrian wasn't ready to face.
Hesitation lingered in the corners of his mind. Stormveil Castle loomed like a formidable barrier, and he couldn't shake the feeling that there might be an alternative, a hidden route that could offer a less treacherous path to Liurnia. The prospect of circumventing the castle's perils enticed him, yet he questioned whether it was truly worth the risk.
"I could take the hidden route around the castle, but is it worth it...?" Adrian questioned himself, weighing the potential dangers and advantages of such a decision. His instincts, honed through countless adventures, warred with his desire for the path less traveled.
As the sun's fading light painted the world in shades of orange and purple, Adrian shifted his focus from the lure of Liurnia and turned his attention to the eastern expanse of the map, where the treacherous region of Caelid lay. It was a land he had traversed before, an unforgiving landscape filled with rot and decay, but it also held secrets and treasures that Adrian knew well.
"Ultimately, Caelid might be the better choice," Adrian said with a determined nod. While he acknowledged that Liurnia held its own allure, the risks there were too great, and his instincts warned him to tread carefully.
Adrian's memory replayed the encounters he had faced in Caelid, the battles he had fought, and the secrets he had unraveled. Though perilous, he was familiar with the terrain, the traps, and the formidable adversaries that called Caelid their home.
"I can ride past the Summonwater Village to get to Caelid..." Adrian contemplated aloud, his mind already mapping out the journey. He knew giant dogs, a menacing and aggressive species that roamed the lands, would be a constant threat.
"Or... I can use the trap chest in the ruins near Agheel's lake..." he mused, remembering another entrance to the rot-plighted lands. Though it involved avoiding a black dragon, it was a risk he was willing to take for the rewards it offered.
As he weighed his options, Adrian's hand unconsciously reached for the hilt of his trusty Bloodhound Fang, a reassuring gesture that gave him a sense of security. The weapon would sreve him well in many battles to come, and he knew it would be his greatest ally in the perilous lands that lay ahead.
"Still... if I stick to the ruins, and not venture into the lake," Adrian continued, his mind now set on his chosen path. He knew that the ruins held valuable artifacts, including the coveted Twinblade and the elusive Stonsword key. Acquiring them would undoubtedly bolster his strength and increase his chances of survival in the unforgiving world.
"Now that I think about it, I can pick up the Twinblade and a Stonsword key from the ruins," he reasoned, a glint of excitement in his eyes. The thought of adding new weapons to his arsenal fueled his determination to venture into the heart of danger.
"Alright, it's settled," Adrian declared with newfound resolve. With his decision made, he carefully folded the map and secured it back in his inventory. He knew that the path he had chosen would not be easy, but he was ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
As night began to cast its shadow over the land, Adrian mounted his loyal steed, Torrent, who neighed softly in response. With a last look at the peaceful Site of Grace, he spurred his horse forward, setting off on a new adventure into the perilous lands of Caelid.
...
Having successfully cleared the Agheel Lake ruins of its undead and giant rat infestation and picked them clean from any valuables, Adrian found himself standing in the dimly lit underground chamber.
The walls of the chamber were adorned with dried-up roots, giving it an eerie and ancient feel. The air was thick with a musty scent, and the soft glow of luminescent moss provided the only source of illumination.
In the center of the small chamber, an enticing sight beckoned Adrian's attention. A silver chest, adorned with intricate designs and shrouded in a radiant glow, rested on a small pedestal. It was a familiar sight, reminiscent of every treasure chest he had encountered before, but Adrian knew better than to be deceived by its appearance.
It was one of the sadistic traps deliberately covieniently near the starting placed by the game developers, meant to entice inexperienced and unsuspecting players into falling for its allure.
Opening this chest without caution would trigger a malicious teleportation spell, whisking the unfortunate soul away to an unforgiving dungeon, filled with nightmarish creatures and perilous traps that would deciemate anyone's who wasn't prepared.
Adrian, however, was far from an inexperienced player. He knew exactly where the chest would take him. To him, this chest held a different purpose—a shortcut to the treacherous lands of Caelid, which he had chosen as his next destination.
The knowledge of the trap only fueled his determination, as he knew it would allow him to bypass a significant portion of his journey. He approached the chest cautiously, keeping his wits about him, and assessing the chamber for any hidden dangers.
The gleaming light from under the lid beckoned to him, promising the allure of valuable treasures, but Adrian's instincts kept him grounded. He reached for his trusty Bloodhound's Fang, gripping it tightly, ready to face whatever lay ahead.
Taking a deep breath, Adrian summoned his inner resolve, knowing that timing was crucial. With precision, he activated a hidden mechanism, releasing a magical seal that guarded the chest. The silver lid creaked open slowly, and he braced himself for any sudden surprises.
As Adrian opened the lid of the alluring silver chest, a sudden rush of thick mist billowed out, enshrouding him completely. It wrapped around his body like a phantom, engulfing him in an otherworldly embrace. The mist seemed to possess a life of its own, as if it was a sentient entity with a purpose to fulfill.
As the mist consumed him, Adrian's vision was obscured, and he felt an eerie sensation of weightlessness. It was as if he was floating in a void, disconnected from the physical realm. The mist seemed to caress his skin, sending shivers down his spine, and a strange ethereal light surrounded him, casting eerie shadows in every direction.
The pulling sensation intensified, tugging at Adrian's body with a relentless force. His heartbeat quickened, the sensation akin to being caught in a powerful whirlwind.
Suddenly, as if waking from a dream, Adrian's vision returned, and he found himself standing within a dimly lit shack-like structure inside a massive cave.
The flickering torches mounted on the walls emitted the same otherworldly hue, casting elongated shadows that seemed to dance to an unheard melody. The air felt heavy with an aura of mystique, and the distant echoes of knocking reverberated through the cavernous space, similar to the rhythmic strikes of pickaxes hitting stone.
"Whelp... here goes nothing..." Adrian murmured, his voice tinged with both trepidation and determination.
