I know! the relationship between Sam and Cass was always a bit sketchy because there were some trust issues that they needed to work on but the fact that he called him a friend??? omg. And Sam was so worried about him too. I really love this trio. I just love this show so much.

Sam absolutely worshipped Angels until he actually met them, and Cas saw Sam as an abomination. But they did get to know each other, and Sam has that gratitude to Cas for saving Dean and then choosing to be on their side, and Cas still sometimes seems to have resentment for Sam killing Lilith and the whole Demon Blood issue, but here it's shown that in the end none of that TRULY matters because Cas does see Sam as his friend. And he's insanely protective of him... Haha I also adore the scene between Sam and John. It starts out making you laugh because John is literally insulting himself and it's kinda like "Wow. Even John Winchester hates John Winchester!" Then it just gets sad when Sam starts talking about how he understands John's reasons and loves him and misses him. And he's actually getting to say it to John, but he's not able to say it to his Dad. Some people think John figured it out in that moment, at least on some level, who they were. I'm not sure if I believe that. I do believe he maybe felt some sorta connection to the boys and so it just made him extra emotional, almost like part of him could feel that they were related but for the most part he had no clue. But I think he was mostly just imagining what he'd feel like if he lost Mary, and also getting emotional hearing Sam be so open about it. John being angry at his future self (without realising it) is also kinda sad too though. These episodes where we get to know young John always break my heart because we can see just how much he changed after he lost Mary. If he met his future self, he'd likely punch him in the face. It just goes to show how trauma and grief can change a person, as well as the sudden knowledge of the supernatural. Like, being in the war gave him PTSD but he was still a sweetheart and like he was in this episode. Losing Mary broke him. But then finding out about the supernatural so soon after? That absolutely destroyed him, he became paranoid about losing his boys too, about why this happened, and turned to Hunting to cope, dragging the boys into it too, not even seeing how this was effecting them. It really is sad. I'm NEVER going to say John was a good Father, but I do believe he tried his best and truly cared about the boys. And the invention of Team Free Will! This was actually the only time they used this in the show for a VERY long time, but the Fandom just adopted the name and it stuck. Like, edits on Youtube for the three of them are usually titled "Team Free Will" along with whatever song is being used. It's just one of those things that the show used once and the fandom clung to it and it's great! The car scene is great too though. I love John saying "Shut up all of you or so help me I will turn this car around!" and the boys just getting these uncomfortable looks on their faces as they basically revert back to being little kids getting told off by their Dad... Matt Cohen (Young John Actor) has said that was one of his favourite scenes to film just because he got to yell at J2... Gotta love him! Haha <333
