Criminal Minds S5E20

5.20 - A THOUSAND WORDS

Okay, but Becky not only helping deliver the baby, but then holding him and trying to comfort him. She is so strong! That woman and her husband were holding her hostage, torturing her, she was being raped, and yet the second she realised that baby could be in danger she was on it and trying to help save that baby. Like, obviously the baby did nothing to her and was completely innocent, but in helping the baby she had to try to help the Mother. And in such horrifying conditions too. So much stress and terror. There was a huge possibility that both her and the baby would die there. If they hadn't figured out where they were, they would've died because no food or drink or anything. Okay, so it's really small and not even mentioned in the show (and I feel like I've mentioned it before) but it's a really big thing to me this episode. Reid having to be the one to read all those journals. It makes sense. Morgan and Prentiss were right, it would've taken them a lot longer to read them whereas Reid could get through them really quickly and so they were able to find things quicker. But whenever they have him read these things all I can think is that he has an Eidetic Memory and will never forget those awful things he read. Like, these things definitely stick with all of them, but not to the same degree obviously. It just kinda makes me sad to think about. His memory, reading speed and job really don't mix well for his mental health... Haha I also love when the Cops are portrayed as competent and caring. This Detective was just amazing and I loved him. I really like that we had a Detective who was just really hit hard by a case like we often see with the BAU. Like you said, Rossi had the one with the 3 kids' parents being killed, and Hotch had The Reaper, then we had others emotionally connect to certain cases too. So it was nice to see the Detective going through that too. And Hotch telling him it's not stupid unless it makes him reckless was great too. Sometimes it's portrayed as bad to connect so much to a victim you're trying to save, and sometimes it IS dangerous because it makes you reckless and also if you fail to save them it's gonna hit hard. But other times it just really pays off that they care so much and put so much work into it. I really enjoy this episode though. I have to say it's one of my favourites because I just find it so well done. :)
