Updated Mod Interface Preview!

This month we have no dev disasters to post, because well, unfortunately no disasters were recorded. It was a good month! Instead we can share with you a sneak peek into an upcoming feature update.

Let's hand it over to Azuree to introduce it!

It's been almost 4 years since the first version of the Workshop update and the official support of mods happened. We've seen countless of suggestions related to the mod interface, at this time, still located in a tab of the config screen. As much as I wanted to implement them, the current settings couldn't let me.

The main issue is that it was entirely made with the scrollbar system, which is not a bad thing on its own, but limits drastically how elements can interact with each other.

As an example, the addition of a search bar, which was probably one of the most requested features, was not possible to do. Elements in a scrolling view would need to be rearranged on the go, while keeping in mind that destroying said elements to rebuild the list would also destroy the search bar itself - it is extremely messy.

Another issue is that the config screen is still at the old days of UI design where it is not scaled for higher resolutions. Moving to a completely separate window was then considered, and implemented while making sure all elements would scale no matter the resolution of the player. Another priority of mine was to port all current existing features, so it would not feel as a downgrade from the config screen.

It took a fair amount of die&retry, mostly seeing that most common resolutions work, but I think it was worth it.

You can look forward to the updated feature in a future update!
