The first step is admiting it might be the case. The second step is talking to someone. You're doing great, honey.

Exceedingly brave of Dorothy to ask this question. She's facing up to the possibility rather than doubling down out of stubbornness and fear. To the extent one can be proud of a fictional character, I am of her.

Uniquitous

Really enjoying this story arc, it's so rewarding to see someone actually acknowledging their goals are unachievable without great personal cost. She's built like a cattle dog, without purpose she'll start tearing the furniture apart but that doesn't mean she's immune to burnout. She'll find something to overachieve in that actually makes her happy and lets her have downtime.

i think it'd be sadder if she continued to believe a life of academic excellence would eventually gift her immense political power which she would be the first person ever to wield without being a monster

I hope Dorothy doesn't end up giving up. This is so sad

the only two options are to put "a good person" in the white house or let fascists win. what else is there? just not have a president? preposterous

And this is one reason David’s still my fave: I sure have no idea where Dorothy’s story is going now. I’m honestly still a little irritated everyone’s treating Raidah’s “war criminal” argument as a rhetorical slam dunk. (No good person should even try to be president! Give up and let DeSantis take the gig!) But there are other reasons for Dorothy to be doubting her life plan. There’s the way Roz seems to be better at getting voter support; that’s kind of important to politics. And while I don’t agree with her reasons for refusing Yale, they may point to something deeper within her heart. In a lesser sitcom, I’d expect this to be a “love the life you’re with” kind of story arc, in which Dorothy considered a path that’d take her away from the main cast and decided that the relationships she had were too important. The thing is, Dorothy’s existing relationships don’t look that great, either. Walky is a painful reminder of past choices. Sarah and Billie mostly seem to mock her these days. Becky now openly admits she likes her, but they're still very different people. The big tie Dorothy has left is her friendship with Joyce, and that’s getting a lot more fraught too. When Dorothy’s honestly helpful to Joyce, as with the pills and the life drawing class, it’s a thankless job. And this thing where she’s trying to “manage” Joyce and Joe…I don’t think there’s any scenario where that ends well for her. (All kidding aside, I think it’s way too much to hope that she and Joyce discover they’re bi for each other.) At least she isn’t so far gone as to go back and try to seduce Walky just to feel better for a few minutes. I was honestly worried about that in the last strip before I was like, "No, wait, that's Lucy's room they're in." So what IS next for her? My best guess is that she’s going to ask Ruth if she still has any brochures from that time when she and Billie were talking about backpacking across Europe. She wouldn’t be the first top-of-her-class student to get burnout and need a bye semester to get her head on straight.

Well, she needed to break sometime soon, the way her character arc was headed, and it's probably easier to absorb it from an actual enemy instead of, say, Joyce

Gale Tazzin

Raidah broke Dorothy. I am livid.

Packy Anderson

Oh God, those faces in panels 4 and 5. She just looks so lost.

Harold

“Actually, I have the perfect analogy for this! So up until a little while ago, I wanted to die! And—“ “Maybe this was a bad idea.”
