This had been my favorite soundscape through the pandemic. It really helps me feel less isolated. Funny how much a simple background can enhance your day.

Heather Torrey

I had to laugh at the torch for lighting the fire. A friend of mine uses a ROOFING TORCH to light his bbq charcoal!

Brigit Zent

Yes, some morning here the sound carries and a car 3 or 4 miles away sounds like it is going to drive through your yard. Ahhh the modern world.

Jon Townsend

Its great that you cannot hear those car sounds in the background in the main channel episodes. :)

Gianni D'Alerta

It's fun and interesting. Thanks!

David McCamey

Great Video, Thank you

Wesley Heidel

This is a great behind the scenes. It left me wanting more, e.g. feeding the fires to the size that will heat the cabin.

Kathie Gifford

loved the behind the scenes. thank you so much for sharing this with us.

Santa Sir Glenn Dr Heald

To radiate more heat, you could put a cast iron "fireback" to reflect the heat into the cabin.

Philip Esteban

Thank you for sharing a very special behind-the-scenes moment with us. It must be a very peaceful time of day at the homestead site. All the research and prep and post-production work you put into each video is truly appreciated, and it shows in the amazing quality of your videos. Thank you for consistently going the extra mile to keep history alive.

Vicki Stevens

A great behind the scenes video Jon! It reminded me of my years in Boy Scouts when each patrol had to take turns getting up early and getting the fire going to make meals. During fall camporee especially you were grateful to get that fire going fast!

Adam Gear

Loved the video. Thanks.

Valerie Grasso

Sometimes when lighting a fire, you need "more power"! Awesome bonus video of the how-to process for a video! Thank you for the time, energy, and resources you put into what results as a "free" video on YouTube!

RG de Stolfe

Take a torch, fpark it well, prepare according to your defire or need. Thank you Jon for this peek behind the scenes! So awesome

Mike Kruk

Great little behind the scenes peak. Thanks!

Marin Phillips

In actual fact, this kind of episode could do with being made into a "proper" YT video, because the folks who were doing all the cooking in the time period you portray, would have been doing the exact same thing. Getting up at the crack of dawn, or even earlier, and starting all the fires in the ovens and homesteads, to prepare for the day ahead. Us modern folk are SO used to flicking the switch and getting instant cooking or heating, we sometimes forget that it was a ton of work, to cook and heat in the past. Excellent video :-) Just out of curiosity, what time was it? I know you said pre-sunrise, but it's hard to judge if your not relatively local :-)

Amazing Jon. I love those behind the scenes vids. It was so beautifully shown how the oven breathes. So soothing, calm morning, fire. Wonderful.
