oden one piece question
Added 2022-08-04 13:50:20 +0000 UTCAfter watching 1000 episodes of One Piece. Still continuing this journey….why do people dislike Oden Sama? It was quite the shock when i read some bad comments about him. (I’m making a video about the topic)
It’s not a massive number. I noted a small amount. Only 1 gave a reason. I assume they are very young.
There should be no arguments. I’m here asking for opinions and it’s welcomed. Especially those who don’t like Oden, so i can make an informed video

Wano/Oden has too much significance in the One Piece story without building up on it from the beginning. Wano just popped up out of nowhere after time skip. To me I felt like Oda was like “Lets put everything important stuff in this island”.

2022-08-04 19:06:48 +0000 UTCMy only gripe with Oden is more about benevolent rulers in the One Piece story as a whole. The villain gives them a deal that's really more of an ultimatum and the King/Shogun accepts it because they think it will prevent loss of civilian life, when in reality, civilians will suffer regardless because villains aren't exactly trustworthy(shocker). With Oden, his ignorance of the state of his country and just how dangerous Orochi's mindset(burning Wano to the ground) was is what let to his downfall, but that's at least ok compared to Riku, because at least Oden had some other purpose(to help Roger) and did fight back eventually, albeit when it was too late. Riku was a pacifist, which IMO is an extremely naive ideology and because he couldn't be reasonable, it let to many deaths and complete subjugation of his country. Oden is flawed, Riku is a dummy. I just wish we had a good king/queen that is actually more smart and methodical instead of being an over-the-top idealist. Thank you, that's the end of my TED talk.

2022-08-04 18:57:00 +0000 UTCi love oden, and see his importance in the story as a whole, he's incredibly important, but I don't think we've reached the pinnacle of his story and rippling effects of his death yet, I think the people that hate him either found his dancing annoying and couldn't understand why he was doing it, or just don't understand his importance as a character in proportion to how much screen time he got.

2022-08-04 17:50:29 +0000 UTCThere was also the fact that he left Wano in the first place, leaving it vulnerable to Orochi's and Kaido's insurgency. Then there's the fact that Oden fell for the Momosuke illusion, preventing him from freeing the country from Kaido. That one leads back into how Oden didn't make sure that his family was secure and hidden before facing off with Kaido, which not only would have ensured that he would know that the Momo on the battlefield was a fake but also would impede any effort to go after the family after the battle. Of course I personally don't hate him (I just feel that he had made some bad choices,) and all of these scenarios ignore a fact that all of us here know by now (that there was a traitor in Oden's group working against him all the while,) but these are among the reasons why someone less informed may dislike Oden.

Hes somebody you cant hate but you always wonder "bruh, why he do that". Personally I didnt even realize there were ppl out there that actually disliked him. Hes a character I couldnt help but admire but at the same time Im like, "ight somebody help this man make some decisions"

As for anime online, most reactors love this backstory so idk…

I could also imagine people not liking him being Deus Ex Character, because he fills in a ton of blanks in the story and sets up a lot of the One Piece end game. For the record, I think he's dope.

I just think his overrated because his a new character and does like 2 or 3 things over power and everyone say his a goat and top 5 character, when so many other characters have done way more. When I see everyone jumping on a train I tend to get off.

I guess you can say he never really knew how dire it was, but he still discarded his inherited responsibility to care for the country from the start. Nothing too wrong with that, everyone has the right to be a little selfish.

2022-08-04 14:10:28 +0000 UTCMy issue with Oden is how naive he was. He knew there was something wrong with Wano when he got back, the Roger pirates could have helped him but no. Then he believes Kaido a pirate is going to honour leaving after 5 years. His decision making was frustrating to watch.
