"The Trouble with Tribbles" Full Reaction! - Star Trek: The Original Series Season 2

Whoops! Sorry this is a little late! I was supposed to post it before I started watching the next episode but I ended up just starting up the "Gamesters" episode. Just finished that one! Anyway, it's Tribble time!

LOL, I'm really glad you enjoyed this one , snarkiness and all. Too funny and great reaction. The writer of this episode sells Tribbles on his website and at some conventions https://www.tribbletoys.com/home.html. I LOVED that Bunny GASP when Scotty told Kirk where he beamed the Tribbles too. This is what makes it all so worthwhile to watch. A great surprise. Yeppers, it's a fun episode and re-watched many times here. 😊 🖖 🫡

This was so fun!

Yet another highlight episode showcasing the cast's "turn-on-a-dime" comedic timing with a powerful assist from young David Gerrold's wonderfully imaginative script. James Doohan and Walter Koenig give standout performances, though it's William Shatner who hits a homerun with his grumpy-yet-loveable straightman routine. A++

I love the interactions with Scotty and Kirk in this episode. This is very much a Scotty episode in a way. Unfortunately, the Klingons look awful in this episode because they ran out of budget for the make up lol. Trelane is clearly Trelane.

Bunny, Per Star Trek Lore, Klingons are 3 times stronger than humans. (it will make more sense in The Next Generation).

William Shatner's comedic timing was spot on in this episode.

I could swear there was another episode that Robert Brown was in as a different character (Definitely not Trelane). But, what it was escapes me.

One of the best and silliest episodes.

I have some good news and some bad news. The good news, Bunny, is that you were right about William Campbell (Trelane & Koloth). The bad news is that Michael Pataki (Korax, aka Klingon #2) didn't play Lazarus; that was Robert Brown. But I'm very happy you recognized "Trelane" so quickly. Legend has it that Gene Roddenberry wasn't pleased with the "comedy" episodes produced under Gene L. Coon's tenure and that this may have led to Coon's departure in the middle of the second season. However there is some indication that his leaving the show was due to exhaustion brought on by the demands of making a new episode each week. Either way, Coon contributed several scripts to the show's third season under a pseudonym, as he was under contract to a different studio at that time.

This is a fan favorite.

I totally echo what the others have said. This is a great episode, one of my favs, and in my top five for me. Yes, you are correct about the returning actors Bunny. Many people did return guest spots in the show during it's three season run. And all of the other guest actors were great as well, as they always are with classic Star Trek. I highly suggest reading the Wikipedia article for this episode for the long backstory that this episode went through -- like "The City On The Edge of Forever" it had no business being as good as it was with such a painful development process. I don't think the show ever said this in detail, but....Sherman's Planet was one of the only (perhaps ONLY, it's not clear) habitable planets in what was called here the 'Disputed Zone' but would later evolve into the 'Neutral Zone' between the Federation and Klingons. Per the terms of the Organian peace treaty, both sides could make a claim for Sherman's Planet and the world would be awarded to whoever could show they could admin and manage it better. I got the impression the planet was currently uninhabited, and one of the things the Federation was trying to do to stake their claim was to bring in wheat that could be planted and thrive there and feed people, and the Klingons tried to stop it with the poison. If the plan had worked out, the people who settled the planet and ate the products from that grain would have all gotten sick and died, and then the Klingons could swoop in and settle the planet themselves. So Jones was actually right when he credited the Tribbles for saving the day as far as that situation was concerned. And it's quite common for a fruit or animal or plant or something that thrives in one area not to do well in another, even if all things were equal. For whatever reasons, the conditions on Sherman's Planet meant that only this kind of grain could grow. This episode actually had a mixed reaction with the fans when it first aired, but people who were not die hard fans loved it, and over the years it's continued to grow in popularity. Tribbles are forever associated now with Star Trek, and you can still buy them in various forms and ideas even today -- including battery powered ones that can vibrate and coo like from the show. :)

Star Trek TOS has episodes that, while not completely farce, have many funny scenes. The comic scenes in this episode are classic and timeless. The writing, the pacing and the acting by all the great characters with their digs at the others are still amazing to watch. The scene where Kirk dresses down the landing party after the fight is a particular favorite. I know it's a joke at the end-haha here's all the tribbles; deal with it- unfortunately, once their panic subsides, I see the Klingons getting out the disruptors and to hell with the furniture. Bunny looks fabulous and had great reacts for a great work of comedy. Thanks.

Too bad we didn't have Sulu in this episode. This was shot while George' Takei was shooting "The Green Beret" with John Wayne, which kept Sulu from being in several episodes. It did, however, result in Chekov getting a lot of the scenes that normally would have gone to Sulu. I wonder what other sides of Sulu we would have seen if Takei was available? It was great to see your first reaction to this episode. I've been looking forward to this one in particular. Love your takes and observations.
