Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [233]
Added 2025-04-12 17:26:17 +0000 UTCAfter Gardevoir once again dodged Spiritomb’s [Shadow Sneak] with a well-timed [Teleport]—
Cynthia brushed a strand of hair behind her ear, a flicker of disbelief in her expression.
From their earlier exchanges, she had already gotten a general sense of August’s Gardevoir’s strength.
It was at the Champion level, no doubt, though still somewhat inferior to Diantha’s Gardevoir.
And so far, that assessment had held—Gardevoir hadn’t posed a true threat to her Spiritomb.
But…
Cynthia’s gaze fell on Gardevoir, who, despite having teleported multiple times in a row, showed no sign of fatigue—her poise still graceful, her breath steady.
That Gardevoir’s stamina is way beyond what it should be!
Even if August had trained her specifically for endurance... this was absurd.
Which meant... there could only be one explanation.
Cynthia’s eyes narrowed, locking onto the floating tablet beside Gardevoir.
August immediately noticed her line of sight.
So you figured it out...
On her own, there was no way Gardevoir could have sustained this many high-intensity [Teleports] without tiring.
But with the [Mind Plate]...
As long as she held the [Mind Plate], it would continuously replenish her spent psychic energy.
Put simply—Gardevoir was built for drawn-out battles.
Realizing this, Cynthia instantly switched strategies.
“Spiritomb, [Shadow Ball]!”
The lavender mist around Spiritomb’s body suddenly expanded, swelling several times its usual size.
Multiple [Shadow Balls] began to coalesce above its keystone head.
Then—
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh—!
A volley of [Shadow Balls] launched, each one brimming with sinister ghost energy as they rained down toward Gardevoir.
Faced with the overwhelming barrage, Gardevoir had no intention of taking the hit head-on. She promptly [Teleported] out of the blast range.
But Cynthia’s lips curled into a faint smile.
“Spiritomb, aim for the empty space. [Embargo]!”
The glow in Spiritomb’s gaseous form intensified. Purple light specks surged out toward the ground outside the [Shadow Ball]’s impact radius—
Just as Gardevoir reappeared, mid-[Teleport], the purple specks struck her head-on before she could react.
On the sidelines, Gold frantically looked up [Embargo]’s effects online. “Not good! That move can block a Pokémon from using held items...!”
“If Gardevoir’s hit, she won’t be able to use that tablet anymore!”
He didn’t know exactly what the tablet did, but judging by how Gardevoir never let it leave her side, it had to be important!
Blue’s expression tensed with worry. Sabrina, on the other hand, looked like she was thoroughly enjoying August getting knocked down a peg.
And as for Gary...
He’d already whipped out his phone and started recording.
It wasn’t every day August lost a match!
He was absolutely going to save this clip, turn it into a meme, and have it ready as ammo the next time August gave him trouble.
Just as everyone thought Gardevoir was about to be cut off from her [Mind Plate]—
Nothing happened.
The [Embargo] had struck her squarely... yet there was no change.
The plate still floated serenely beside Gardevoir, pulsing with soft light.
She hadn’t been affected by [Embargo] at all.
Seeing this, Cynthia froze.
Wasn’t [Embargo] supposed to disable held items?
August, meanwhile, wasn’t even remotely surprised. That tablet? It was one of Arceus’s "Powers of Creation."
Even if Gardevoir was its current wielder, it was not something Embargo could shut down.
Otherwise, if someone fought the Almighty Llama someday and just slapped it with [Embargo], wouldn’t that strip its plates right off?
How would Arceus ever show its face in the Legendary circle again?
At that moment, Cynthia realized this wasn’t just any item.
That tablet... what exactly is it?
The thought had barely formed in her mind when Gardevoir, who had been passively dodging all this time, finally raised her arm—seizing her chance to strike back.
[Dazzling Gleam]
A bright flash burst forth, hurtling toward Spiritomb.
Naturally, Spiritomb didn’t plan on taking it and immediately activated [Shadow Sneak] to evade.
But August wasn’t disappointed—in fact, he smiled.
“Gardevoir!”
He snapped his fingers.
Behind Gardevoir, a spectral moon appeared.
Moonlight energy gathered in her palms, coalescing into a pink energy sphere—then she hurled it forward.
Seeing this, Cynthia’s instincts flared. She had a bad feeling—but still called out, “[Shadow Sneak]!”
Spiritomb began to vanish again—but right then, Gardevoir’s eyes flashed with twin beams of blue psychic light, locking onto her target.
[Psychic]
Spiritomb’s form froze mid-transition, its half-finished [Shadow Sneak] forcibly canceled—its body forcefully ejected from the spirit realm.
Caught completely off guard, Spiritomb took the full brunt of the [Moonblast].
BOOM!
Fairy energy engulfed Spiritomb in an instant.
When the glittering remnants finally dispersed, Spiritomb was revealed, severely injured.
But with Spiritomb’s high special defense, one [Moonblast] alone wasn’t enough to knock it out.
So—
“Don’t let it recover! Gardevoir, [Dazzling Gleam]!”
“Spiritomb, [Protect]!”
Crash!
The dazzling light slammed into Spiritomb’s green protective barrier. It held, giving Spiritomb a brief moment to breathe.
But even with that breather, using Protect was not ideal for Spiritomb.
“[Pain Split]!” Cynthia commanded.
A white light lanced from Spiritomb, aiming to redistribute its damage onto Gardevoir.
But August had already prepared for that.
“Gardevoir—[Double Team]!”
“Then [Light Screen]!”
Multiple Gardevoir copies flickered into existence, spreading across the field. A shimmering wall of light rose in front of the real one, completely nullifying Spiritomb’s attempt to share the pain.
And to make sure Spiritomb didn’t get any more clever ideas...
“[Taunt]!”
At August’s command, Gardevoir’s intellectual grace vanished. She crossed her arms and looked down at Spiritomb with a haughty glare, lifting one finger in a mocking come on gesture.
It landed.
Spiritomb was provoked on the spot!
Cynthia sighed, abandoning the idea of using [Destiny Bond]. “Spiritomb, [Shadow Ball]!”
It launched another desperate attack, hoping for a final shot.
But there was no way a slow-moving [Shadow Ball] could ever hit a teleporting Gardevoir.
At this point, Spiritomb still had stamina left, yes—but…
The outcome was clear.
...
After one more [Moonblast] landed squarely on target, a lone [Odd Keystone] lay where Spiritomb had been.
Several seconds passed... but Spiritomb did not reemerge.
Spiritomb was down.
“Come back, Spiritomb,” Cynthia said calmly, withdrawing it into the Poké Ball.
But her face didn’t carry any disappointment—only curiosity.
“August... what is that tablet, exactly?”
An item that could ignore [Embargo]—she had never seen anything like it.
August smiled slightly. “That? Well...”
---
T/N: in the original apparently after the outcome was clear they kept going for 10 more minutes...? yeah no that sounds dumb, cynthia is a champion level and august is too, even if she was planning on stalling to drain Gardevoirs stamina she already knows that tablet basically gives her inf stamina uhhhh and spirittomb is taunted not a lot of strategic moves can be used so yuh
