He actually did kill people. He killed his former wife, his older brother, one kid from another town that he framed on one guy that is defended by Kenya's father. (Manga)

I can't bring myself to like this ending. I really hate how anticlimactic they 'defeated' Yashiro, but on the other hand, I love the ending afterward, friends reunited, people saved, meeting love interest Airi, that is the good shit. However, the resolution with Yashiro was just lame. Another critique is how many things they left out from the manga. I read the manga it was a lot, mainly the ending. Anime ending was made up by the anime crew at that point it stopped being an adaptation. I know this was done because of the limit of episodes, the one cour series, 12 episodes, so they just had to improvise and leave out a lot of stuff, I just wish they could have 15-16 episodes series just to wrap things out properly. Although with the limit they had, they've done a great job in terms of storytelling, passing, overall direction. Adapt 2 volumes of manga into 2 episodes is impossible, so if I overlook the anticlimactic ending with Yashiro, this show is easily 8/10, otherwise 6.9/10.

I'll give you some more background. Yashiro was married before but his wife, that was a psychiatrist, but she found out his motives, so he killed her and staged it as if she committed suicide. Also, Yashiro had an abusive older brother that beat him up from time to time. He made him lure young girls into the shed, where he abused them, and then Yashiro bribed them with candies. Once the brother overdid it and killed one girl, Yashiro and he hid her body in the shed for time being. As police were on verge of figuring it out, Yashiro killed his older brother and staged it as suicide - like he couldn't bear the weight of his actions, so he killed himself. And that was how he become the serial killer. This, of course, isn't an excuse for his actions, but just to understand him a bit more, even though he still is a psycho. For people who were about to write something like this "When you’re killer waits for 15 years but you’re crush don't" hear me out. In the manga after Satoru sank with the car, we have a chapter, where Yashiro tells the class about the incident that happened yesterday. We see everyone's reaction, everyone in tears, and so on. Of course, Satoru's closest friends are affected the most. Kayo maybe even more than everyone else. She's visiting him every day at the hospital but after few months/weeks (I don't remember, I read it long ago) doctors said that Satoru has a negligible chance of survival and recommend Sachiko to plug him off from life support. She of course declined, her exact words were "fuck you/screw you" (depends on translation). So, Sachiko moved him to a private hospital without telling Kayo, she just left a letter for her. The letter, in short, said "You come every day to the hospital, you can't live like this. You have to move on with your life...". So, everyone who hates the ending or even Kayo for her decision blame Sachiko, which you can't as she did the best for Kayo. If Kayo 'waited' for Satoru, she wouldn't have a life, she would be sad and lonesome with nobody. This way she is happy with Hiromi, has a child and a life. You cant blame Kayo or Sachiko for this. Nonetheless, Satoru didn't even like Kayo in the first place. He saw her as someone he needed to save, not someone to fall in love with. In the original timeline, she wasn't even his friend, in the new timeline he is 29 for bloody hell, he can't have romantic feelings for someone who is two decades younger. Also, it was kinda set up from the beginning that he will end up with Airi. For someone who genuinely has feelings for, someone who helped him, someone older Xd. In anime, they skipped one bonding scene with Satoru and Airi, where they together save some kids from falling with the help of Revival. Satoru also saves Airi from falling down as she was saving one of the kids; however, this happened in the original timeline, so they just have to start from a scratch in the new one. EDIT: I almost forgot about Kenya. Kenya's main driving force was not Satoru, but his dad. Anime once again left out a pretty important scene, where we found out that Kenya's father is defending a suspect in a murder case and is convinced of the man’s innocence. All the evidence is against him, but Kenya's father wasn't giving up, despite losing all his friends, Kenya still believed in his father's judgment. The murder victim was most likely Satoru's childhood friend (we see her in the manga) and for the killer, all things point to Yashiro, but I don't recall if this was ever confirmed or not. Yea so that's Kenya's background.
