One Piece Episode 313 UNCUT REACTION!

Comments

1066 as well

Matthew Gilroy

you mean 1093 & 1114? I'm not up-to-date with the anime, but I think I have seen some clips Can't wait to watch these then^^

klairvoyage

&aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand, lmfao - and carson just instantly brings it up the exact moment i unpause after posting that comment - of course!! XD

Yagi di Hoshi

something funny - garp being luffy's grandpa was kind of an open secret in the manga if you read the beta/second version of romance dawn - it shows "luffy's grandpa is this wacky old man" who absolutely resembles garp

Yagi di Hoshi

Thats true, the latest one they did went hard AF

Martin Hagen

I can't know exactly what reason they had beyond that it fit the plot they wanted to shape around him. Personally, I like some of the scenes with Live Action Garp but I also understand he's a bit different. I would even say his character isn't the issue to me, but rather the plot/actions they gave him were inconsistent.

Veritas

Like Klairvoyage said. TOEI IMPLEMENTS SOME COVER STORIES NOW. (And even SBS material). I wish more people would talk about this

Matthew Gilroy

@Gino yeah it is rumored to be due to low viewership, since those Buggy & Koby cover stories were the first time an episode did to not feature any of the Strawhats, but it is not like the silly fillers with them do any better viewership-wise... it is honestly by far the dumbest decision the anime was making for the longest time next to padding the episodes, instead of keeping an ED & utilizing the huge backlog of other content from SBS, etc. (which thankfully tho the recently have started doing to some extent)

klairvoyage

Because at the time cover stories episodes had less views, so they stopped doing it. At least that’s what i read some time ago.

Gino

i wish they adapted more of the cover stories rather than having fillers from time to time and dragging out stuffs cause at least it is the source material and real cannon event.

Fabulous

Honestly, in hindsight, it’s really only in the first early parts of the anime that they did adapt Buggy’s and Koby’s cover stories into their own two episode ‘anime-canon’ fillers. For some reason, either on Toei’s part or the animation team, they decided to skip adapting the cover stories by just focusing on the Straw Hat’s story while also making filler arcs.

Monkey D. Lucci

It's been a gripe the OP community has had with Toei for a while, don't know if it's an official answer to that

Martin Hagen

Yeah it seems really weird then There’s periods of 2 episode filler arcs, when they are straight up just cutting side stories that are canon? Why?

BOLDcast

Interesting to know! I wish Netflix would’ve permitted a 10 episode OPLA S1, we’ll never know what masterpiece we’d have gotten

Iris

I wouldn’t say the cover stories are supplement materials, they are part of the manga. You see them when you’re reading the chapters either through weekly releases or through single-bound volumes. For Captain Hina, she was first introduced in Jango’s Cover Story before being properly introduced near the end of the Alabasta arc. For a lot of the faults people/fans give to the anime adaptation, I still don’t mind the ‘flawed’ aspects except for not adapting the cover stories into the anime, minus for Koby’s and Buggy’s cover stories

Monkey D. Lucci

Mhm it’s something that on my original watch through I didn’t really clock (I was 12 and I think I was still just super sad about merry dying) but now I’m going back I also think it’s really interesting and find all the theories about the tree to be super cool.

Extra Crispy

Why did the Live Action change Garp's character though? (I was told they did. I haven't seen the LA)

Matthew Gilroy

The original script, designed for 10 episodes, was a more faithful adaptation, especially of Arlong Park. Though, as you said, the secondary Marine storyline was already included due to budget constraints. However, when Netflix reduced the season to 8 episodes, it required them to further condense the main content, which led to a disproportionate emphasis on the Marine subplot. Matt Owens has talked about this with quite clear displeasure. The execs actually had plans to rush through Loguetown to the end of the Arabasta saga in Season 2 (with only 10-ish episodes again) as well, if it wasn't for him. I'm glad Matt fought for the conclusion of Season 2 to be Drum Island, so that they are now able to take their time with everything.

Tony Tony Helicopter

I’m pretty sure the real reason they introduced Garp earlier in the live action was so that they could create a marine b-story that was cheaper to make, so the episodes weren’t as expensive.

Will.Har310

Exactly, and the biggest advantage of this format is that since they unfold through a series of pictures over dozens of chapters, they mirror real-time & story progression, enhancing the sense of time actually passing. Here tho, even in the rare instances where they are adapted, such as the Koby-Meppo one, Koby's entire transformation is condensed into a single episode, instead of being able to experience the gradual development.

klairvoyage

LIstening to the discussion about abrupt introductions, knowing what the next episode is gonna reveal (they already watched it, so not a spoiler) is even funnier lol

fccview

I was just getting ready to say this, you beat me to it lol.

Jeremy Gullion

The government only cares about specific things can't say much cause spoilers

Donovan

glad to know I'm not the only one to watch a 30-min video by Tekking about trees :) GEOGRAPHY IS EVERYTHING

klairvoyage

Jam packed episode. Maybe I'm just a nerd but I'm soooo into the "tree" trivia of the One Piece world man. Love the abrupt Garp greeting.

EOussama

To be fair, you'd literally have to actively avoid the cover stories to not read the Garp cover story. They are the first page of every chapter after all.

Capitano

Aokiji when he first met the crew also mentioned Luffy's grandpa and Luffy started panicking before avoiding the subject

Sanji Joestar

Idk if u remember but these 2, Michael and Hoichael were the ppl that Tilestone and Lulu thought they were behind Iceburg assassination before Paulie told them the truth. "the troublemakers from the backstreets"

Black Snow

the TRUE mvps of this arc

Martin Hagen

Yeah this reveal was nuts no one saw this coming manga or anime wise.

Whoopsie

MICHAEL & HOICHAEL FROM THE BACKSTREETS INTRODUCTION RAAAAAAAAA🦅🦅

klairvoyage

Great discussion! This kind of stuff is why I love this channel 🔥

boredbeck

Reading it, you would actually HAVE TO go out of your way to miss the cover stories. It's not some kind of extra content, it's just a name for literally page 1 of every chapter. But yes nobody saw this coming, even if you were one of the very few to have read the 'Romance Dawn, Version 2' one-shot, since the hat was used to hide Garp's face until this moment.

Tony Tony Helicopter

Everyone reads cover stories. You can't not read them. And they are canon. Also there usually is not much to read (one cover picture). You can't just read only the story without cover stories. They are chapter covers. So each new chapter the first thing you see is the cover story. So they are small stories in the one piece world. Actually it is sad that anime stopped covering them because in manga it is easier to understand how a character pops up somewhere new. In anime it feels more surprising. For instance Fullbody and Jango in Alabasta. In manga you see their journey to that place.

Marta Britāla

also thanks for another great discussion

Martin Hagen

Usopp gonna team up with Condoriano to make his own crew :(
