I really like it too, definitely underappreciated. I wouldn't count it among the greatest ever stand-out episodes, but as far as the monster of the week stories go, it's very good at what it's going for. It's genuinely scary, the monster is great at being super creepy, the hospital setting provides a very strong sense of place that really goes with its vibe. I remember not loving it on my first watch, because I was much more invested in the season arc at that point, but this one has really grown on me over the years. I get that it's not everyone's cup of tea, but nobody can tell me that it's badly done, it's amazing at what it sets out to do.

Der Kindestod is one of the most creepy monsters in the series IMO, and I like the slow pace, adds to the creep factor and horror vibes I get from it. There is most definitely some Freddie Krueger vibes going on here too and I love it.
