And I just watched 11x3. YIKES. I know there's a lot of sarcasm/hyperbole involved but 1 - I am super sorry about your pup. 2. – I hope that your wedding was amazing. 3 - The observation wasn't a reaction to that one episode but, rather, to the overall trend that I’m observing. Honestly, even when the SPN episodes are good, you haven't seemed impressed or overly engaged, which makes sense. You guys work on a fuckton of content. So the question is: Do you care about this particular content anymore? If not, that’s perfectly OK.
This is 100% not a rejection of you, your critiques, or your desire to succinctly state your case. No one wants to muzzle you or make you fill quotas. I fucking HATE it when people in comments tell you, in advance, what episodes you are expected to love or hate. My comment was intended to be more like: “Life is short. If you are not finding this engaging, man, go do other things you love. If John still enjoys this, let him do it. No one will drag you for not being a completionist.”
As a huge fan of both you and John (I mean, I'm here, right?) and someone who can objectively watch SPN, admitting they get a lot right and quite a bit wrong: It's hard to enjoy this with you if the impression is that this has become a chore, you aren't enjoying yourself and that John is having to defend the things he does enjoy. I actually like and care about you two and would hate it if you were stuck reacting to content out of obligation. (Plus, the reaction isn’t exactly going to be fair to the content.)
Let’s be honest, you could probably throw a rock and find someone who watched early SPN but couldn’t make it past the Leviathans. LOL. Regardless, that wasn’t a fully serious suggestion…more like imagining a hypothetical John in a hypothetical future, where hypothetical Greg is free of obligation to one of the longest running shows ever, finding one of the millions of viewers who dropped off after several seasons of SPN and is willing to watch a few seasons with him. I was asking: Might everyone be happier in that scenario? It’s also not like you are the only review duo on your channel. I was sad when I saw that you were watching Umbrella Academy with “not-John” – but ended up loving those reactions, so I know that other pairs can work. Regardless, if you actually still enjoy this, excellent. I'll be watching the last ~1.5 seasons for the first time with you. #bitterender

I get REALLY frustrated with this show (particularly how Sam is mishandled for years) but I'm often still surprised and impressed at regular intervals. John is forever providing the good faith analysis, acknowledging solid moments/writing/acting - even in episodes or arcs that he doesn't love. It makes me love him even more.
It is, however, becoming difficult to watch along with Greg because he kind of makes it clear that he doesn't want to bother. The responses appear to be pretty mood-based from this end.
So, question: Is there any major reason not to let Greg off the hook and/or get a different watch partner for John?
