BACKSTORY: SKY

again im adding here the disclaimer that this little written pieces are the raw ideas i have for this character's backstory, they also are just the most important bits before the story starts and im more than open to any kind of critique or feedback i could get for them! 

another warning, this one in particular haves instances of neglect and abuse, this is perhaps one of the harshes one that i have wrote, but also the implications and emotions from this particular backstory would take me really long to write so if it seems one sided or not explored deep enough, its not cause im ignoring them but because i would explore each of them in dept later on, but if you have any advice i would love to hear from it!

Sky comes from a really bad situation, he was born out of an affair, between his father (a married man with children) and his mother, who was a business woman that was taken advantage off while being drunk on a party, in a visit she did to the city 

There was an attempt from his mother to get an abortion on him, but after his father talked her out of it, he decided to take care of Sky, leaving his ex-wife and two small children behind in order to care for a small baby Sky with the promise that his mother would come visit once a year 

This prove to be a mistake, cause sky’s father was only using him as a tool to get to his mother, his father thought that if he tried, he could woo his mother into starting a relationship with him.

Sky’s father was a twisted man, who became obsessed with Sky’s mother, he wanted to posses her, to make her his wife, to get her attention, and her affection, something that she didn’t desired nor even enjoyed at all, the only thing uniting the two was Sky, and in a way this caused his mother to grow a lot of resentment towards him, reason why he only saw her once a year on his birthday 

His father’s obsession made living with him a hell, most of the time he spent the day drunk and ignoring Sky’s entire existence, barely speaking to the kid, he was extremely neglectful, using the money his mother sends for sky in booze or in his personal enjoyment, while getting sky the bare necessities or often not even that 

Sky spent most of his time watching tv or drawing, it took him a lot longer to learn how to speak due to how little his father communicated with him, he was skinny and malnourish so in order to not draw attention he wasn’t really allowed to get outside of their house 

Sky had a lot of emotions, towards his father, specially when he got drunk, because then he was more easily approachable, the man was distant and constantly only talked about sky’s mother, he was also a pianist, and if the chances got in sky’s favor, he would teach him how to play 

Sky loved the moments where his father would teach him how to play the piano, there were far and few between but at those moments he could feel a bit of closeness to the man 

Sky’s mother was entirely different, once a year she would call to pick up sky so he could spend the day with her, when this happened his father frantically did everything on his power to hide the fact that sky wasn’t healthy nor being properly cared for, this was the only day a year where sky would get clothes that were entirely new in order to play the façade, his father made it pretty clear that he was only allowed to talk good things about him while on his mother’s presence, and he also told sky that things would be better if he managed to convince his mother to take his father in 

When he spent time with his mother, it was usually going around town, eating out in restaurants and talking with her about how life was; while he went with an obvious mission to doing what his father asked him to, sky found it pretty hard to even talk with his mother, she was a complete stranger to him, and he was often intimidated by her presence, his senses twisted by how much his father talked about her, sky often felt inferior to her and even ashamed to be around her 

She would often try to get sky to talk about how his life at home was, but due to sky’s promises to his father he never let in on how bad things were at home for him, his mother wasn’t precisely kind nor affectionate, she seem to be in the same place as Sky, uncomfortable by the whole situation, something neither of them wanted to be in, due to all the bad memories sky brought back to her, she just couldn’t really feel anything sincere nor comfortable around sky, he didn’t really had to ask to know he wasn’t exactly welcomed by her, she was distant but not the same kind of distant like his father, she was distant in a way that they could talk and talk all day and still feel no connection nor any closeness, they could even hug or hold hands but it didn’t felt natural nor sincere, so they just didn’t 

Sky would often just go trough the day, and do it as quickly to get home soon, all of this visits often ended up with sky’s mother fighting with his father about how malnourished sky was, but it never went beyond a couple of arguments and blatant lies his father would say about how he would change his behavior, he would try to woo her in and ask her to go out with him to talk more about sky, but she would shut him down quickly, saying she doesn’t want anything with him and that if it weren’t cause of sky she would had never talk with him again 

This often prompted to sky’s father going trough depressive episodes, where he would be worse than often, and leave sky alone almost all nights to go out and drink only to come home and start breaking things inside the house, during this time sky would run out of the house and wait under the street light until his father’s anger went away 

During one of this occasion a neighbor saw sky, and decided to contact the police, during their visit, sky’s father talked with them and convinced them that everything was ok, it didn’t take much since he was friends with the officers

After that the only thing that changed in sky’s life was that he started to go to school, due to his father’s attempts of hiding him he was enlisted two years too late, so sky was already behind all the other kid’s and placed in special education classes to help him catch on

During his time at school he befriended a kid named Dell Govian, who became his only friend, Dell would often look to hand around sky, and even asked his mom to make him double breakfast so he could share it, they were really close friends, and in one occasion they started saying they were boyfriends (since they were boys and they where the best of friends so to them it was only logical)

While at school a social worker also started to talk with sky, due to concern from the professors due to sky always coming with dirty clothes and how his hair often got infected with lice 

This made sky incredibly anxious since he didn’t want to leave his dad, nor his house, so he started skipping school or hiding from the social worker, he would tell Dell that he was “on the run” and to make sure no one knew where he was 

Everything came down to a breakpoint when during one of his usual drinking nights, his father passed out in the living room, only for him to never wake up

Sky was alone and the situation was so out of his control that he didn’t really knew what to do, he didn’t knew who to call, or how to ask for help, he screamed a lot but no one came to help him, he spent then hours crying his eyes out, he felt guilty this had happened and then the guilt became fear that the police would think he cause this, his anxiety got the best out of him and in a sudden decision he activated his powers by crashing a window with the ice and running away from his home, he was only 9

After that sky ran away to the streets, where he tried to survive on his own, often scratching garbage cans for food, he got in troubles a couple of times by trying to steal some food, and did all in his power to stay hided from everyone, specially the police since he thought he was a criminal

During one occasion, where a man had dropped his wallet by accident, sky picked it up, conflicted by deciding if either take the money or if he should return the wallet, unfortunately he got so distracted by this decision that he didn’t notice the man already noticed him and was running towards him 

The man holds him up in the air and yelled at him for stealing his wallet, sky couldn’t find words nor knew how to explain that he didn’t stole it, all he could think of was screaming for help, which only made the man angrier and to start to shake him 

Then a guy appears behind them, telling he man to back off and leave sky alone, it was a teenager in a yellow hoodie, to which the man shifted focus from sky to the teenager

“who the fuck treats a child like that?” the teenager yelled at the man who started to argue that sky was stealing his wallet and that he needed a lesson

The teenager ended up arguing and receiving a punch from the man, who then shifted his attention back to sky, but the teenager shielding him with his body and did all he could so sky wouldn’t get hit 

Seeing how this has gotten out of hand the guy decided to try another tactic, and lied saying that sky was his cousin and that he was going to call his aunt and the man will not only get arrested but thrown in jail for trying to hit a child 

This prove good enough to scare the man that he just scoffed and leave, and once that happened the guy checked on sky to see if he was hurt 

After a lot happening that night, they got to know each other, the guy’s name was (redacted), though he asked sky to call him Luke later on
