Yup such a funny show! also has Evangeline Lilly(Wasp)

Kevin

I would argue that they were a 50-50 team. Stan came up with the character, their personality, powers, etc. And Ditko designed them. With Marvel, Ditka only really designed Spider-Man and Doctor Strange though. Jack Kirby was more of Stan's full time partner, but Ditko did great work at DC, where he took a lot more control in the creative process and created some decent sized names for them.

Josh Lomax

This is just an assumption but between Werewolf at Night, Black Knight, Blade, Morbius, Moon Knight, and possibly Ghost Rider it seems like we will eventually get a Midnight Sons movie.

MightyHobo

Adding to that I'm pretty sure the storyline to this was also inspired by Earth X written by Jim Krueger, at least the main threat is

Henrique Cezar

That mysterious voice at the end was Marshershala Ali (thats definitely spelt wrong). Last year he was cast as Blade, the human/vampire hybrid who hunts vamps A character infamously played by Wesley Snipes in that great trilogy of films. But importantly he's a character from the Marvel comics He and Dane working together on something makes a hell of a lot sense

ButtyOh

If you love Kumail Nanjiani as much as I do, you should check out Silicon Valley! It is hilarious, however vulgar it may be.

Ryan Merrill

I watched this for the first time in theatres, a second time a few days ago with some different reactors, and a third time now and I think I liked it more each time I watched it? Like, I thought it was alright the first time and it's still not my favourite MCU film, but repeated viewings made it easier to take in just how MUCH STUFF the movie puts in front of you which is, admittedly, a lot to keep track of. I really liked how it took superhero tropes (like the classic "team breaks up for years and then get back together but are still 100% in sync with each other" everyone has seen a bunch, or "destroying the earth is bad") and flips them ("we broke up because we're all different people and I don't know if I can agree with this plan", or "keeping the earth from exploding is sorta kinda selfish"). In part of your commentary Nat, if I may paraphrase, you were talking about how Ikaris wanting to continue with the Emergence is some kind of evil "betrayal" against his fellow Eternals or against humanity as a whole. I don't think the movie wants it to be so cut and dry. In a cosmic scale, from what we're given by the movie, Ikaris is in the right; the entire reason the Eternals are here and the entire reason we as humans are here is to bring about the new Celestial. That is, cosmically, our ENTIRE purpose and wanting to stop it from happening is both very understandable and a little bit selfish. The movie wants us to grapple with whether or not saving humanity is really the best play here. Arishem is stated or implied to have created the Earth, but what if whatever planet Arishem was born from had decided to stop Arishem's Emergence? Then there would likely be no Earth, no Avengers, and no one to stop Thanos. To take another angle on this, imagine if your friend asked you and nine other coworkers to collectively housesit for him for the express purpose of helping his cat give birth to kittens while he is out of town. Then the day before the birth, one of your coworkers says "Hey this house is pretty nice. If we get rid of this kitten we can live here forever!" and manages to get most of your other coworkers to agree. I feel like most people would feel like you were justified if you tried to stop your coworkers from killing this kitten. And that's why I like how zen Karun is about the whole situation. Him, the resident human and with the most to lose, just accepting that his time in the house is soon to conclude, and simply grateful for the life and memories he made while he was here. Kingo not joining them for the final fight is another thing you mentioned a lot. Zhao herself has talked in interviews about how that was an important and intentional decision for the story. Having him choose the side he does is a risky thing. If a character nobody likes makes that choice everyone would roll their eyes and say "Oh of course YOU would choose THAT!" But having the funny character that everyone adores choose the unpopular choice is asking if the viewer likes him enough to consider his thought process. Most conflicts in superhero films essentially boil down to "I think you're wrong and I'm going to punch you until you agree with me". So having Kingo say "I ideologically think you are completely wrong, but you're family so I'll respect your decision to do what you think is best if you respect my decision to not help you do it" is a super refreshing angle to see in this type of movie.

CheeseRepair

I enjoyed the movie, but I had to force myself to separate it from the actual source material. This really made me hate Icarus, and he was the biggest hero of the comic series and the focus of most of it. It was like... they called it The Eternals and there were characters with the right names... it had Celestials... and a Uni-Mind... but beyond that... My god, it was really not anything like the original stories. Still a pretty good movie for what it was going for.

Robert Reichle

Although a TV series would be a 6 ep MCU show would possibly only give us 90 mins extra judging by the others and there is no way they would budget more than $150mill they have for other shows and they are much smaller scale than this needs to be without looking like a Quantum Leap episode.

Paul Gibbons

I liked the movie overall, but I really wish Eternals could have been a TV series. Trying to do an origin story for 10 people in one movie is a pretty hard task. It's like if they would have tried to do Avengers before all the previous movies to get you to care about the characters. Hope we get more of them, I do like the cast.

Peter Godoy

I believe that was the Watchers voice at the end

Jason Kinkaid

I totally hadn't seen that nice spot.

Paul Gibbons

I watched along for the 1st time with you too - I liked it, but not as much as I did with the other Marvel movies - It did keep my attention thru out the movie - but you have to start somewhere with a new set of movies and willing to see where it can go from here

JarHead0351

I have to assume the A-tier writers were contracted to the TV series and this is the B- or C-tier writers at work. I watched the first 70 minutes in the theater before the lamp in the projector went out, so they reimbursed my money. I had slyly said to my friend at the theater, I was glad I got my money back. Ended up watching it on Disney+ and it looked better and sounded better at home. That didn't improve the writing, though. I have high hopes for the TV series they have been putting out, but the MCU needs some TLC.

Edward Of DOOM

Yeah, I wish they'd decided to do it as a mini-series. I feel like with Marvel backing their Disney+ shows so much, it would still have the canon weight of a movie and given them a lot more time with each character which would've been nice and they probably would've been able to do a lot more showing than telling

Yani Dodge

Yay, more Marvel with Natalie! I honestly didn't like Eternals very much, I also really didn't care about the character's much, and the fact that Tiamat got his head and hand out without causing massive earthquakes and tsunami's around the world is a bit ridiculous, but the artwork is very pretty and it was fun to re watch with your commentary! Looking forward to Hawkeye!

Yani Dodge

Stan Lee was much more of an ambassador for comics. He stopped writing comics in 1972 and the Eternals became a thing in 1976. Steve Ditko, fellow creator at Marvel Comics, was more of the creative genius. Stan Lee was typically a big picture guy but Steve Ditko was the one who did a lot of the actual creation.

Myles Away

now that i have re-watched this, the rings the celestials used actually reminds me of the ten rings... hmm

FatLittleButterfly

That was Mahershala Ali's voice who'll be playing Blade in the MCU and you'll be happy to know that kit has a huge future in the MCU cuz he's playing Black Knight.

Dani

You got me curious and I looked up Lauren Ridloff and she is in fact deaf in real life. So really cool she got to play a deaf superhero. When I first saw this movie in theaters I was really confused at first with all the time jumps into the past trying to flesh out their history and backstory while also moving the plot forward. Add in the names were sometimes hard to keep track of before they jump elsewhere and forget. Seeing a second time, with subtitles now, I could start to enjoy things better. While it isn't my favorite Marvel film, it still stands out as a decent one.

Game Wizard001

I really enjoyed that a lot just shows best not pay attention to negativity , was great to see Gemma Chan I loved her in the TV series humans and was a surprise seeing Lauren ridloff of walking dead fame in witch she also signs so makes me think is she mute in real life , entire cast was great though as were the visuals , definitely sounded like mahershala Ali 🥳 so excited for blade ngl , anyways thankyou for the fun reaction nat and have a great weekend 💛

Ian

I don’t really think any marvel movie is a direct adaptation of any particular comic, Kevin feige has always wanted to give you the elements from the characters you love but with a new story, twist, or change to the character

Jacob Vinck

There actually are hints to Sprite being in love with Ikaris before the reveal. You might notice them on re-watch.

Jermare

Definitely enjoyed this more on this my 2nd viewing. The first time I might been expecting too much. Plus I think I have become used to the interconnectedness of the previous MCU films and I was missing that in this film, even realizing that it wouldn't have made sense for this film to be tightly connected with the other MCU films.

Richard Maurer

Yeah I really liked this movie. I don’t get a lot of the hate for it.

Zach Strand

I agree completely. It’s too many characters at once to have us get too awfully invested into anyone. Except maybe being annoyed with Rob Stark making drastic decisions again. Also sprite wanted to be human or at least at an older age appearance wise more than anything. Her only issue was that she was in love with ikarus and wanted to have his approval more than anything else

christian giles

A great NETFLIX show with Richard Madden called The Bodyguard would be great! Outstanding acting and writing. He kills it.

Edward

i would rather this been a series focusing on different time points and characters and still get the basic storyline and then a fun little christmas action movie for hawkeye. also who was upset that sprite after literally stabbing her friend in the back. The friend returns the favor oh go be a real person and age. Then again she is now no longer a threat and cant stab her friends in the back.

Sean Stuart

True, but it's not an issue in my mind. No real debate. The potential worlds/beings don't exist. It's not like you are taking them away. But killing the billions of people on Earth... well, we do exist. That's real. It's like when people get on my case for not having any children. It's not mean to the children. They don't exist! :)

Robert Reichle

Barry Keoghan is also in Chernobyl, which is probably why you recognized him so quickly. He was the young soldier who had to shoot the pets

Erica Liu

I really liked your take aways from this one Nat. I’ve watched this 3x now almost forcing my self to try to like it more each time and I still think some of the acting is very stiff most notably the relationship between Gilgamesh and Thena. I think it all would have played out better as a mini series where we could really follow the eternals through the history of time and watched their relationships with each other and humans develop. Kit Harrington is going to turn into Black Knight. That sword is possessed by evil as you could tell. I’m pretty sure the voice he heard is from Mahershalla Ali who will play Blade in an upcoming movie.

Travis

Even in the theater I had a hard time not laughing at Icarus straight yeeting himself into the sun. It's just.. too silly and a bit too on the nose. Also im pretty sure based on social media posts and interviews, Druig and Macari have such a convincing chemistry cause the actors seem to genuinely have affection for each other. It's really sweet.

Jenna Antonelli

It's the good old Trolley problem. Saving Earth stops Tiamut from creating hundreds, if not thousands of worlds and billions of life forms.

Connor Ellis

Yeah, I feel like everyone has this mentally where a movie needs to be their next favorite or perfect when it doesn't. Every movie will have it's flaws, things someone didn't like, and etc. It's just nice to have something different and a fresh experience and Eternals gives that 100%.

Dayvon Rose

It's Mahershala Ali, the actor playing Blade.

darkmoobs

I really enjoyed being able to watch this film again (in the comfort of my own home). Originally I saw it in a local multiplex and was just so annoyed by everyone around me that it kinda dragged the movie experience down. Now, with a resurgence of one of the Covid variants, I'm skipping Spider-Man, No Way Home in theaters and am willing to pay the $19.00 on Amazon (I would have paid that much in a ticket/ with fees/ movie house snacks and/or gas costs) so am excited to see if Nat watches that. Thought Eternals had a lot of wonderful elements but wasn't my favorite - but not going to do the "polarizing opinion" thing of "I LOVED this movie," or "I hated this movie." Take what you enjoy and move on if you don't. I'm just glad there is a community like this, on Patreon, where we can escape and enjoy fun reactions to things like this.

This_Jedi_crafts

im pretty sure the voice at the end of the end credit scene with kit was jeffery wright aka the watcher from what if

Papi Dillion

Really glad you enjoyed this movie. Great reaction! I have not been able to understand why so many people didn't like this movie. Yeah it's a different pace. Even though the director won an Oscar this was her first movie of this size. Still think she did a great job.

Ron K

I just happened to rewatch this yesterday. It's def one of the more unique Marvel films, and will be interesting to see how it ties to all the rest of the MCU. If you're looking for non superhero stuff to watch I think you may enjoy The Nice Guys. It's a crime thriller/comedy with Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe. On the other end of the scale, if you want proper Oscar type films, try Pan's Labyrinth. It's Guillermo Del Toro's masterpiece. Be prepared with some tissues though. :)

Marc Ammundsen

Daniel Bastos is clearly a 'hoopy frood' who really knows where his towel is!

—thoughtstorms—Keith—

it's the new Blade Mahershala Ali.

Paul Gibbons

I gotta say, the voice saying, "Sure you're ready for that, Mr. Whitman?" sounds a lot like Jeffrey Wright to me.

Douglas Baker

The person that composed the score for this also did thrones

Justyn Hernandez

If you are looking for dramatic and award winning consider the film "life is beautiful"

Lucifer Moon

The voice at the end of the second credit scene was Mahershala Ali ( MCUs version of Blade the vampire slayer )

Alex

Kit Harrington's char is a big deal in the Marvel Universe and has alot of connections with the avengers and Dr. strange.

Jayson Phillips

Also the music from this movie was done by the same composer as GoT

Jayson Phillips

Eternals much better on second watch, it's a lot to take in the first time. By the way, that voice speaking to Kit's character in the second end credit scene belongs to Mahershala Ali, who is cast as Blade in the MCU.

Tay Schumaker

Not only are the Celestials responsible for creating the Eternals in the comics they are also responsible for the mutants and the fact 'normal' humans have the ability to get superpowers. Plus I'm the comics Apocalypse used Celestial technology.

Lee Gannon

On the subject of taking a break from superhero stuff - I watched Ford v Ferrari the other day and I would love to see your reaction to that. Great movie.

Niklas

"I can't image a superhero movie where we just let Earth explode" I strongly recommend you "The Hitchhicker's Guide to the Galaxy".

Daniel Bastos

if you know who is talking to him then you should know where he is going to appear tbh

Yassine Biggie

Gotta figure there will be luxury hotels all over the corpse of Tiamut in weeks.

Matthew Shaver

Jack Kirby instead of Stan Lee in this case.

Matthew Shaver

It was fun, but not sure it's even Top 10 imo.. what makes you rank it so high? genuinely curious, not trying to be a troll

JohnnyTankTop

Agree. It defiantly had a deep deep connection. And I thought they showed that bond really well. There was a level of comfort, trust and intimacy that could easily be platonic as romantic.

Jesse Arnold

Yeah Stan was an idea guy and I don’t want to diminish what he contributed to comics and the world. But most of these movies are their own stories. Loosely inspired by comics. Civil War being one of the most recent comic stories, it barely resembles the comics. But it’s not any less good because of that. It’s just another alternate reality. Like all of MCU is a “What If” to the comics. X-Men movies are the worst at this. AND I KNOW IM SUPER BIASED ON THAT. Days of Future Past is like the memory of a burp that came from the comic. Love this movie though. It grabs so much from all eras of the comics and does it’s own thing. The Eternals are very different in some ways and others spot on. There’s a lot of references to things going on in the comics right now. And gets me excited for all that is to come in the MCU. Yeah, Kingo sitting out the fight was a bummer. But the performances were really good across the board. Made me believe these characters really knew each other for centuries. Especially thought Angelina Jolie delivered a powerfully performance.

Jesse Arnold

This is probably one of the best marvel movies of all time, in my opinion.

Edwin Bertilsson

Just wanted to say the dedicated effort you put into the Patreon and channel hasn't gone unnoticed! Definitely didn't have to rewatch DoFP or post Eternals today but it is much appreciated. Also, Raimi is pronounced Ray-me lol

Darren Penuliar

For the "was this a comic Stan Lee wrote?" question: This was Jack Kirby's story. Kirby had been writing more cosmic-level stories for a while, and he came across "Chariots of the Gods?" one of the books that popularized the ""ancient astronauts" theory. He didn't believe it, but thought it would make a neat story, so he wrote the Eternals, which ... the comics aren't entirely unlike the movie, but the story in the comics wouldn't really have worked in the MCU. Heck, it wasn't even really supposed to be part of the Marvel comics universe, but it's been folded in. So I think this was a little bit of an uneven fit, but I really like it.

Kevin Mowery

Don't worry Nat, ramble away, we love it haha. Also, with the Harry Styles end credit scene, he plays a character named Eros, who refers to himself as "Thanos' brother" and also as an Eternal. Which means Thanos is an Eternal, created by Celestials, who was on the planet Titan so that would mean Titan had a Celestial in it. Thanos is alive after the life on his planet went extinct (as well as another Entertal, his brother Eros), the planet isn't destroyed but its surface is torn up and wrecked, and even Starlord mentions something major happened there, even that the planet is off its axis. Thanos also wanted to 'save' the planet by killing half of the population, the requirement for a Celestial to be born is a large enough population of intelligent life, which Ajak did say Thanos delayed the emergence by snapping away half of life on Earth (technically saving the Earth before the Eternals in this movie did in a weird way if you think about it, but don't cause that means Thanos is sort of a hero lol), then after he failed to save the planet Titan he became obsessed with killing half of all life on every planet... makes you wonder what actually happened on Titan way back then

Zeliodes

Any long time reader of Marvel Comics watching this movie for the first time, and being very familiar with the character of Dane Whitman did not worry about his fate at any time in this movie. We will see Dane and his cursed Ebony Blade again, I hope sooner rather than later. Always cool when a Marvel movie introduces a new Avenger.

Mike LL

The person that spoke to Dane (Kit's character) in post-credits was Blade, so we might be seeing him there.

Kevin

Hi Nat and thank you for this new reaction, I'm glad you finally learned your lessons at the end of a Marvel film 😆, you were funny to watch and also adorable with your famous emotional face hahaha, however I have mixed feelings with the film for some parts, but it's quite enjoyable (I think unfortunately a serie format would have been better to introduce them) Just few points, Babylon wasn't only known for its gardens but also for its blue doors, the blue colour is a really old known thing but in some places it wasn't because it had to be imported (cost a lot, and a lot of money) and a funny point is the actress who plays Sersi played in Captain Marvel and was the blue girl "Minerva" haha (always funny when a franchise recycles actors/actress for different roles) I hope you're fine, take care, be safe and stay golden! 💛

Calo Grsf

Spoiler: The mystery man-voice belongs to Blade, voiced/played by Mahershala Ali

Johannesaggro

Far from a favorite, but it was a pleasant surprise!

Johannesaggro

I don't know why, but I never felt like the relationship between Gilgamesh and Thena was romantic. It always felt like an extreme friendship to me, and that makes it even better. I may be alone on this one though, maybe it's actually love.

Bou _

If you liked Kingo you should check out the Big Sick. He wrote it, and its a great story with a great cast. Whether you react to it, or not. Worth a watch.

Seebackward

knockoff would suggest its worst , its not

Modi bost

Cool, knockoff Man of Steel. Hooray.

Dooly

I have a hard time with this movie. I like the characters, I LOVE the visuals, I like the cinematography, and I thought the story was interesting. It just doesn't all come together in an interesting way. That said, I'm very happy to see an MCU movie that doesn't feel formulaic. While I always understood why they have a formula, I also think it's held them back. I'm still bummed we never got an Edgar Wright Ant-Man. I still enjoy this movie, but it's not one I'll watch a lot.

Kate Herzig

I agree, slower doesn't mean boring at all. However, this movie did not do a good job of "tugging at your heart-strings" at all, especially with Ajak's death. This should've been a Disney + show that gives ample time to all the characters so we can properly feel what the director is clearly trying to get us to feel. If they had done that, than this probably would've been my favorite MCU piece of media. Unfortunately, they didn't do that. I still like the movie, but it's still towards the bottom of the MCU for me. Also, I actually like what Zhao did with Nomadland more than what she did with Eternals. She was able to tell a more complete story in a movie that was literally an hour shorter than this one

Ilsuk Yang

if you like kingo's character, you should check out Silicon Valley. one of the best shows on hbo

euclid

I really liked Eternals, and I think it was a refreshing change-up in tone. Marvel basically made a Star Trek film, and I adored it. So what if it's slower? Slower doesn't equal boring, and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who enjoyed it.

Andy Jordan

Yeah these are exactly my thoughts. I thought it had a very different feel/vibe to everything else, but that was refreshing and honestly makes sense for this movie. Not exactly what I would call great but I enjoyed it nonetheless

Balkyne

Not the day for it. Already done 2 X-men this week lol

Balkyne

Errrrrr.......Logan....???

Bob SyerUncle

Meh. It's not the worst (Iron Man 2 is still clearly the worst film in the MCU if you ask me), but it's pretty boring and gets worse and worse every time I watch it.

Inhuman Paradox

I mean, Eternals wasn't great but Shang-Chi and NWH and Loki and Hawkeye were all great this year. One meh film (Eternals) and one god awful film (Black Widow) don't change that. As well, the films weren't bad for having agendas (What agenda did BW even have? "Russia bad"? That's about all the substance I got out of BW), they were bad because BW wasted its potential and Eternals took inspiration from the worst elements of Zack Snyder films (Don't believe me, look it up. Chloe Zhao literally said she was trying to make something Snyder-esque) with none of the actually cool stuff from a Snyder film.

Inhuman Paradox

I don't know from best or worst, the answer to that question is going to vary according to tastes and preferences. I'm really trying to get away from portraying my opinion of a movie as the movie being objectively good or bad. But this is my 27th-favorite MCU movie.

Cory Stanish

Not the best MCU Movie, not the worst (looking at you Black Widow). Thank God "Spider Man No Way Home" proofed that Marvel Studios can stiill do good Movies without and Agenda. Thanks Nat for your Reaction either way.

Curaitis

This is my fourth favorite MCU movie!

Zakk Pierce

It is a movie of exposition to set up the next phase and for the Celestials Intro and to set everything up for Galactus' introduction in to the MCU. It is boring if you don't like listening to exposition, and there is a lot in this movie.

Vega

i really liked it but i understand why a lot of people didnt

Maya

I enjoyed this one. It's not your typical Marvel movie which I appreciate. Definitely not in the top 10 for me, but also not at the bottom. The cinematography and cast were the highlights for me and are good enough alone to warrant a rewatch in my opinion. Looking forward to your thoughts!

Dante

Happy Friday nat was hoping for a none mcu movie on my birthday as I'm mcu'd right out and am lacking motivation but eternals it is so think I will watch it on weekend instead only hearing bad things about it hasn't helped but anyways guess no birthday movie but hope you have a wonderful weekend and as always stay golden 💛

Ian

Swing and a miss from Marvel on this one

BigHeadWeb

Happy Friday, Natalie! 😊 I've been waiting for this one. I'm downloading this right now so that I can watch it later tonight. I'm proud of myself for holding off on watching this movie until you got your reaction up so that I can watch along with you. Definitely looking forward to watching this reaction later this evening. Have a great day & weekend! 😊 Stay Golden! 💛

Randee Carreno

Ugh. Tried to get through this movie last night. I didn't make it. A boring story, nonsensically told.

G. T. Blackwell

Been holding off watching this one to watch along with ya Nat. Thanks for fitting it into your schedule this week. I was looking forward to seeing what it was all about, and I really enjoyed it. It really felt like an old school epic adventure. I love getting caught up in your enthusiasm for these multiple character movies. The Game of Thrones connection also continued with the score being done by Ramin Djawadi, who scored all the GOT episodes. The world was coming to an end and you saying "Chop, chop. This is really bad" A talent for understatement Nat 😂 Thanks for a truly epic video today Nattie G, and as always, thanks for all your awesome work this week. Have a great weekend 💛

Darryl Low

YESSS!!!

Hailee

Woohoo! This will be my first time watching too. Should be different from the typical Marvel movie.

Joe Blankenship
