I saw this in the movies when I was 17 and I assure you kids back then had a somewhat different reaction than you. It was absolutely terrifying back then. These types of movies were kind of new although it was proceeded by the Texas Chainsaw Massacre which was also terrifying and the worst of all kind of a different genre was The Exorcist and Jaws. To be a teenager in the 70's was freakin amazing!

2024-08-10 00:26:08 +0000 UTCIt's probably for the best not to watch any more. The timelines are so confusing. There's the original series of movies, Halloween 1,2,(not 3),4,5,6. Then there's Halloween H20 and Resurection which follow on from Halloween 2. Then there's the reboot Halloween 1 and 2. Then there's Halloween, which is a sequel to Halloween, which leads on to Halloween Kills, and Halloween Ends...

2023-10-08 08:28:31 +0000 UTCReally? I saw "Halloween" marathons 1st on AMC in early to mid 2000s. They didn't always have the 1st, but they did have 2, 3, 4 & 5. That's probably why H4 & H5 have a special place in my heart. Some great kills & some great Loomis lines ("I prayed that he would burn in Hell. But in my heart, I knew Hell would not have him.")

2023-10-03 09:15:48 +0000 UTCGrowing up when they use to have Halloween marathons in October it would always skip the third i was always confused but decided to ignore that fact. A few years later i finally was able to watch it separately was disappointed on initial watch but the second time enjoyed for what it was.

2023-10-02 01:37:07 +0000 UTCAlso..."Halloween 3: Season of the Witch" is a surprising good one cuz it doesn't involve Michael Myers. "Halloween 2" at the time was supposed to be his death and the rest of the series was supposed to be a Halloween anthology film series with each movie being a new horror story based on/around Halloween...but the audiences were PO'd at the time so 6 years later (for the 10th anniversary) we got "Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers". H3 has gotten more of a cult following since then.

2023-09-30 20:30:50 +0000 UTCLeatherface from "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" has a chainsaw, Jason Voorhees from "Friday the 13th" has a machete.

2023-09-30 20:27:57 +0000 UTCHalloween Ends is the ending of a trilogy of sequels in the latest "Halloween" continuity (there are several) starting with "Halloween" (2018) as a sequel completely ignoring all the previous ones, then "Halloween Kills", then "Halloween Ends". If you do want more since Jamie Lee Curtis is in all 3 sequels, I'd stick with just the 2018 one.
Trevor S Bright
2023-09-30 20:26:00 +0000 UTCThat was the original 1950s "The Thing" (or "The Thing From Another World"). A standard sci-fi monster movie with a guy in a suit. But Carpenter's "The Thing" is more accurate to the short story both films are based on called "Who Goes There?"

2023-09-30 20:23:33 +0000 UTCI forgot to mention the best trivia! When we see Lester the dog “die” and his legs relax, they just filmed the handler gently letting the dog down after having picked him up 😌😭 An actor!! Where’s his Oscar!
Daniel McGuinness
2023-09-30 01:27:01 +0000 UTCA nice bit of trivia: The name of the doctor was "Sam Loomis." That was also the name of the boyfriend in the movie "Psycho." Also, the mask is actually a William Shatner mask that was painted white. It was the only mask they could find before filming. If you want a movie where the people don't act like idiots, check out the "creature flick" Tremors (I don't think you've reacted to it, as far as I can tell), with Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward. The people in that movie react based on what they know at the time (which is obviously limited earlier in the movie), but don't act stupidly in general.

2023-09-27 18:25:22 +0000 UTCOh - big same on watching the original film first. The ones after aren't necessary watches at all.

2023-09-27 08:14:38 +0000 UTCPersonally, between those two I'm hoping for The Crow! That one's a childhood fave of mine. Well, it's a movie that I really enjoyed as a youngster, that my mom bought for me - even though it's NOT intended for children. Amazing movie in any case. Perfect movie for this time of year. :)
Logan Kerlee
2023-09-27 08:12:44 +0000 UTCWow Natalie! This is my first time watching this one, as well. So we're both in for a SCARY time. I'm watching this at 11:20pm and that means it's DARK! I've got my light off. Oh boy, oh boy! I've heard that this one is TERRIFYING! Big yikes. xD Coraline doesn't count. :P Sherlock is NOT spooky or scary. It's a FUN show, not scary. Jamie Lee Curtis is very young in this one, yeah. Main thing with her that I know her from or whatever is True Lies! xD That movie's a trip. A good funny watch. :) Here we go... :P lmao, she's easy prey. The dude was up and on his feet. That was a child's hand. YUP! lol, you don't send a small child to prison. You send him to an insane asylum sort of place. This movie began so close to Halloween! I expected it to be like a week away or something, but no! It's right here from the get go, after the introduction. I'm really sad about Lester! :( Dogs are my favorite animals and that breed specifically makes a great pet! lmao, Annie's gonna die right quick, yeah. Laurie'll live though because I've seen trailers for future Halloween movies and they had Jamie Lee Curtis in them. I think the little girl will live. I hope that she will! I don't think Michael kills kids, like Jason. lol, I can't help but laugh each time you say Mike Myers. :P His name is Michael, not Mike. Mike Myers is the comedian! :P That kill in the car.. lol, wow! Not scary at all. The buildup though! WHOA! That freaked me out. :P Those two kids are adorable! Sexy times and teens = death in these movies. xD lmao, it's a mood setter, don'tcha know? :P Don't worry, they're all gonna die. lol, they're stupid teens, romance is secondary. They just wanna bone. I'm kinda surprised that Michael's making the effort to use a costume. Wait! Is that the corpse? Oh, nope. lol, it was totally Michael. xD That was a massive bed for the kids! I imagine that was one of the kid's bedrooms, at least. Could've just been the parent's because they're out of town, not sure. WHOA! Linda's house is 1337! xD Just noticed that. hahahaha, awesome. :P It's 100% meaningless for this movie and just something that's funny nowadays. 16 minutes to go.. I'm NOT LIKING THIS! UGH!! hahaha, wow. lmao, I'm just happy that I'm watching this with you Natalie because I'm a wuss when it comes to horror movies and this sucks for me even more because of the time. xD Next time you watch one of these movies, please mention the time that you're beginning the movie! The time really plays into how freaky a movie is. THIS BITCH IS DUMB!! Just tossing the knife away. DansGame So disappointing! She'll live so it's whatever. He ain't dead yet after that first stab. She's a dumb bitch, always throwing the knife away. lmao, his body won't be laying there when they look out. *POOF, MUSIC BEGINS* lmao, that wasn't seven times. FUCK YOU, THAT WASN'T SCARY! xD This movie creeped me out big time. I liked this movie a lot. I can see how this was a trendsetter. That heavy breathing at the very end was freaky! lmao, that woman in the car was NEXT LEVEL STUPID. I feel that the amount of silence and theme usage was all well done, not too much not too little. Just the right amount. :) As far as horror movies go, my go to (when I'm actually wanting nightmares) is Friday the 13th, not the new one but the classics from way back when. I don't mean the first - but yeah, those movies messed me up as a kid. I've overcame the MAIN movie that scared me senseless already - It. That movie was the WORST THING EVER for me as a youngster. :P

2023-09-26 19:59:46 +0000 UTCFirst time watching. I thought it was interesting that Hereditary has such a similar scene where the kids are at school talking about the tragedy of characters having a destiny they cant escape.

2023-09-25 12:39:26 +0000 UTCI've seen a few reactors on YT with smaller subscriber bases than Nat's reacting to classic movies and getting good viewing numbers. We will likely never know as it's unlikely to win a poll here. Classic movies have it rough here. On Nat's recent stream she was asked about watching the new Planet of the Apes, and she want's to, but also wants to watch the 1968 version. I hope Nat makes the executive decision to watch the original first before diving into the new remake trilogy.

2023-09-25 12:25:35 +0000 UTCSure, the effects are dated, the acting wooden, and the sounds are primitive. But I really like the story. The idea and the twist (no spoilers). i Don't know how well an almost 70 year old movie would do numbers wise though.

2023-09-25 10:04:24 +0000 UTCNat, if you liked Coraline then perhaps you should check out “9” (2009), Mirrormask (2005), and The Secret of Kells (2009). All are fun animated films with a spooky atmosphere. 😈

2023-09-24 21:35:59 +0000 UTCWould love to see Nat's reaction to Forbidden Planet. It's one of my favourite movies 😊

2023-09-24 15:04:52 +0000 UTCIn case no one else mentioned it (I'm sure someone did) The kids were watching the original The Thing and Forbidden Planet, Forbidden Planet is one of the best sci-fi movies ever made and I honestly would recommend it for your channel. You'll get to see a young Leslie Nielsen!

2023-09-23 11:05:54 +0000 UTCNatalie, thank u for finally doing this one . i've been waiting a long time for u to do this one . i've been a fan of the series since i was 14 and i am 54 now. this is my favorite horror of all time. i hope u will do Halloween 2 (1981) so u can see the conclusion of that night. H2 picks up exactly where halloween stopped . I've seen this one multiple times and have this one on disc 4 times.i'm glad u liked it. This one is very special to me.

2023-09-23 10:38:10 +0000 UTCFun Natmares reaction Nat! Yes, IIRC even Jaime Lee Curtis has commented in interviews years later about her frustration about her character choices of TWICE dropping the butcher knife RIGHT next to the (supposedly dead) killer.

2023-09-23 09:34:37 +0000 UTCGood choice. It’s always hard to address a groundbreaking work of art after the ground has been fully ploughed over multiple times but Halloween retains the power to unsettle an audience.
Jacob King
2023-09-23 06:03:00 +0000 UTCId watch Halloween 3 three times in a row before i sat through kills again

2023-09-23 05:58:53 +0000 UTCYes, this, It Follows. Because Carpenter. And because it is never parody or farce. It is actual loving homage. And reasons I cannot yet talk about.

2023-09-23 03:00:18 +0000 UTCDidn't seem enthusiastic about any of the rest of them and that's understandable. This is the movie that spawned about every negative trope in slasher films. That being said, I would be pleased if Nat watched Halloween II and stopped there. It is a continuation of the same night and in my opinion makes a perfectly ok bookend. After all, why beat a theme into the ground.

2023-09-23 02:20:48 +0000 UTCSuggestion for a classic horror: The Omen with Gregory Peck 1976 (the 2006 remake is actually the same exact story, almost down to the dialogue, with - imo - a lower level of acting; not recommended). Suggestion for a 'weird' horror: Phantasm 1979. One of my all-time faves along with my other suggestion. This one has (a little bit) more gore but that is the only spoiler you get. It's considered a cult classic.

2023-09-23 01:09:46 +0000 UTCI was just in the Halloween mood and was looking for a horror movie reaction. This is my personal favorite.

2023-09-22 23:03:50 +0000 UTCI know my love of this franchise is super biased cos I watched this movie too young and got scarred and it’s still the only one of the iconic slasher trio that still scares me 😅 Michael definitely clears Freddy and Jason tho. And despite the constant emotional and psychic damage I took every time you mixed up the names of Michael Myers, terror of my childhood, and Mike Myers, the actor behind shrek, I still enjoyed watching you experience my favourite horror movie Nat! 😂🫶🏼 And if you’re looking to skip to a good ending for the franchise - Halloween: H20 is my personal favourite ending, but that requires watching Halloween 2 beforehand. Otherwise you can just skip right ahead to Halloween (2018) and ignore it’s two sequels, it works well enough as an ending on its own! 🤙🏻 Okay trivia time! This movie was famously made on a shoestring budget of around $300,000 - $320,000, and managed to rake in a total of about 70 million dollars at the box office Young Michael’s hand in the opening POV picking up the knife and mask, is played by producer of the movie, Debra Hill! Her hands looked closest to a little boys I guess John Carpenter not only directed the movie, but wrote, produced, and recorded the entire score on his keyboard (a masterpiece 🤌🏻) The original casting in mind for Doctor Loomis was Christopher Lee (Dracula!), and Peter Cushing (another Hammer Horror icon). Both refused and the part went to Donald Pleasance instead (who crushes it). Christopher Lee later said that turning down the role was the biggest regret of his career The original working title was “The Babysitter Murders” 😅 William Shatner. Loved the reaction, Nat 🫶🏼 Can’t wait for Scream!

2023-09-22 22:13:23 +0000 UTCThe majority of fans who actually liked Kills (and particularly Ends) were not huge Halloween Film fans, so she might actually like it. I'm a huge Halloween franchise fan and I enjoyed the hell out of Kills but really didn't care that much for Ends (upon a rewatch, I liked it a little more, but still wish they went in a different direction).
Mike Hell
2023-09-22 22:02:30 +0000 UTCI prefer the Friday The 13th movies over the Halloween franchise. At least Jason has an excuse to be invinsible. Although a lot of Jason movies got to be to the point of spoof and comedy to me more than horror.
john Alexander
2023-09-22 21:41:59 +0000 UTCYep. I can't recall exactly, but I think it was originally released as just Halloween H20 and they later made it "Halloween H20: 20 Years Later" but I could be very wrong about them adding that later because people were confused. That's how I remember it when it came out, though.
Jeff K
2023-09-22 20:46:55 +0000 UTCDoesnt the title also mean Halloween 20 Years Later.

2023-09-22 20:41:42 +0000 UTC“I’ve never seen Friday the 13th either” well, you won’t have to after seeing Scream’s intro 😅
Daniel McGuinness
2023-09-22 20:23:54 +0000 UTCMy suggestion is to just watch Halloween 2018 as a stand-alone, H20 is a way better finale to the franchise than ends was but it is a bit dated, and I can guarantee with a near certainty that Nat will not be able to handle “Kills”, so watching 2018 as a standalone is a good option even if it ends on a cliffhanger but it’s a similar cliffhanger to 1978 anyway.

2023-09-22 19:16:52 +0000 UTC"Maybe that's supposed to hint to the audience that he's not just a man, there's something supernatural to him." Exactly. Plus, recall that Dr. Loomis at the beginning would not refer to Michael as "he" and only "it." And that he said there was nothing but evil in him. Because that is, in fact, the case. Michael Myers is essentially a demon walking among us. Also, most of the sequels are... pretty bad. But Halloween H20 (it's not named for water; it's for the 20th anniversary of the original and co-stars Josh Hartnett, Michelle Williams, and Joe Gordon Levitt, as well as putting Jamie Lee in a movie with her mom, Janet Leigh) is better than it has any right to be, so that one might be worth checking out down the road. Also, now that I read off that cast list... I guess that's probably why it's better than it has any right to be. Oh! Speaking of casts: in one of the sequels, Paul Rudd plays an older version of Tommy.
Jeff K
2023-09-22 19:15:16 +0000 UTCHalloween 2018 was good, but kills and ends were sooo sooooo bad. Id say halloween, halloween 2 and h20 are the way to go.
jamie jones
2023-09-22 19:06:36 +0000 UTCHey Nat! The spaceship movie you missed on the TV was "Forbidden Planet". Classic Sci-Fi with a young Leslie Nielsen. And Robbie the Robot! Special Effects were state of the art - at the time. But the underlying story is still really great. Maybe not one to react to, but the wiki article might be worth looking at.

2023-09-22 19:04:06 +0000 UTCThis is the correct answer, all of the others before 2018 are way campier and the Laurie Strode timeline continues starting with H'18

2023-09-22 18:39:09 +0000 UTCWhen they're in the cemetery and find that the headstone is missing, and Nat was certain it was actually a tiny grave that had been dug up... oh, Nat. Nat, Nat, Nat...

Jorge
2023-09-22 17:53:36 +0000 UTC"Is this from the murderer's perspective, or is it the little brother being a creep?" I mean, yes. Also, Nat, if you end up watching "It Follows" (I know it's not gonna win your latest poll), you might pick up on the fact that it's VERY intentional in its homages to Carpenter's work. The music, in particular, is meant to evoke Carpenter's music. And, if you were not already aware, Carpenter is a composer and did his own music for most of his films (including Halloween).
Jeff K
2023-09-22 17:44:05 +0000 UTCI think Bob’s death is my favorite in the franchise. Just the way he gets pinned to the wall and then Myers standing there like an artist admiring his work

2023-09-22 17:31:32 +0000 UTCThe Thing they’re watching is not The Thing that John Carpenter directed. That would be 4 years after this. The Thing is a remake of a classic black and white horror film.

2023-09-22 17:16:34 +0000 UTCIf you do get to watching any other movie in the franchise I recommend just jumping to Halloween 2018. It’s the better successor to any of the the movies and it’s a direct sequel to this one from 1978. You can ignore anything else tbh

Happy Feature Friday Natmares 🎃 Been looking forward to this all day and can't wait to watch it, and hyped about your livestream tonight too 😊 Michael Myers is the character in this movie. Mike Myers is the comic actor, although some might say is acting is scary 😄 They were watching the original 1951 version of The Thing on tv, one of Carpenter's favourite movies, and the second film was 1956's Forbidden Planet, one of my favourite movies. The mask that he wears throughout the movie is actually a William Shatner mask, Captain Kirk from Star Trek, that the prop department got and sprayed white. The music is very iconic for this movie. John Carpenter scored most of his own films. Thanks for an awesome reaction today Nat. It was a lot of fun. And thanks for all your awesome work this week too. Have a brilliant weekend 💛
