FIRST TIME WATCHING: FRIDAY THE 13TH!!

SURPRISE!! Happy Feature Friday!

This surprise was probably pretty obvious with the date haha, but I was excited to finally watch this with all of you! I know this is releasing the same date as the YouTube video, so not an early release this time unfortunately. Sorry for that! I just really wanted this video to release on Friday the 13th exactly for YouTube.

Also, I watched this on Max for those who are curious.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. Until the next one, take care! Have a great weekend and stay golden.

Glad Nat enjoyed this one. I was skeptical.

Marcus Powell

The final girl is actually a really cool trope! Who is seemingly the meekest, most vulnerable member of the group, usually a girl, is forced to go through a horrible battle for survival, and eventually finds the strength to overcome her attacker, usually a male, and she comes out of it stronger If also with severe therapy bills

Daniel McGuinness

You should be in pajamas and watching by candle light!

David Blocklinger

Watched this with my mom for her bday on Friday Oct. 13th!!!!! Thanks for the fun reaction Nat we had a blast <3

Lawson

I hope you later realized that Kevin Bacon was the guy who got in arrow stuck through his neck on the bunkbed. I think this was his debut? Edit: Just checked it was National lampoons animal house lol

CrimsonDTV

It was just so danG long, lo, ha time to finish the torrent for this, cooling down, what I'd cooked to snack on for this and, and start to nimble, had my hanf=ds full and was like commme on, lol

Diiirk706

I’m able to skip through them if I want. Most the time I enjoy it.

RabidMango

this was the funniest killer movie!!! LOL

Arry

Black Christmas, besides being a far better movie, is much more Nat’s kind of thing.

Jacob King

I like Friday the 13th as a time capsule of the period. It’s definitely fun. The Final Girls (2015) is a solid parody/deconstruction of Friday the 13th style slashers that takes as it’s starting point this is dumb and campy and stretches and twists it to get at the underlying emotion of watching teenagers die over and over again. The scene where the kid fake drowns is a key moment once you know the back story. Everyone rushed to help! Even the girl with life preserver. It undermines Mrs Vorhees account of Jason’s death. If she’s lying or delusional (and we know she’s both) then her motive has less to do with the loss of her son and more to do with her own sociopathic needs. A lot of people make the point that slashers are conservative, targeting young people/women who “sin” (which is why they make bad decisions when they’re running away) but it’s never that straightforward.

Jacob King

The remake isn't bad either.

Joe Mallard

The original Friday the 13th was interesting with some good scares, but its real contribution to the slasher sub-genre of horror movies was solidifying "The Rules" that were established in Black Christmas and Halloween (1978). Friday the 13th didn't really come into its own as a franchise until Jason got his iconic hockey mask, which literally shifted the perspective of the films by allowing Jason to be seen during the movie, instead of only during the climax. I know some fans prefer the killer's POV and the kil-kil-kill sound is more chilling that way, but Jason getting the mask enabled him to become the "protagonist" of the franchise and made him a slasher icon. I appreciate Natalie watching Friday the 13th FOR Friday the 13th, which was fitting being in October... but really don't think that Natalie needs to watch any of the sequels. There are plenty of classic horror movies that I'm certain Natalie will appreciate more and be worthy of her and her audience's time.

Rod Reavern

Well, Natalie didn't seem too keen on watching any of the other Jason movies, so I figured adding Freddy might sweeten the pot.

Michael Ford III

Found out recently that the percy truck driver in the beginning. Is the same actor as belles father in beauty and the beast.

Seebackward

last 4 episodes left of avatar the last airbender. After that i am going to start legend of korra. I'm loving the reactions.

Arry

You mentioned "It Follows" being super scary. I do not agree with that statement. Only one scene in the movie made me slightly tense. But for the most part I just felt confused about the setting, and overall not impressed. Like a 3 outta 5.

UngawdlyJish

Yeah but shes never really seen jason yet so whats the point

jamie jones

Can we PLEASE get a moratorium on 10 mins + intros....Jesus Fuck...

Diiirk706

Fun fact about the camp and some lack of sense in the movie, this film was made on the quick to try and capitalize on the success of Halloween. Which, while campy today, started a lot of the slasher tropes we know today. Jason comes into the picture in Part 2, and gets the hockey mask in Part 3. Really the only reason to watch the series is to see the creative kills.

Carter Nelson

We had the same reactions to Ned. He annoyed me so much I started calling the character who I couldn't wait to die in a horror movie the recipient of the "Ned Award." :D

Michael G. Munz

@Nat, I know you've seen NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, so maybe you'd consider giving FREDDY VS. JASON a try.

Michael Ford III

Haven’t seen this movie since i was a little kid. I forgot how slap happy jasons mom got with the final girl. Made me laugh pretty hard

jamie jones

there are definitely better variations of the friday the 13th, and Jason. I can't speak for the rest of this saga, but I've seen some of the newer ones and stuff like Freddy Vs Jason and they were much better. But for the majority of the rest of the franchise I believe it's all Jason, you should at least watch one with Jason as the killer, he's a great slasher/haunter/specter.

Jonah Bertorelli

Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a really different vibe. It’s not a “fun” movie. Really unsettling and brutal.

Byron

I really hope she watches Annihilation one day

Lobos625

as someone who at least hasn't seen this in years, or maybe at all for all I know. And someone who is also filling this October with tons of original slasher and horror movie reactions, I dearly appreciate you making the executive decision to watch this. I've been wanting someone to react to it so I could check it off the list.

Jonah Bertorelli

In "Scream" when Ghostface asks the "Friday the 13th" question to Drew Barrymore it was a trick question. She answered Jason Voorhees, so Ghostface said it was wrong cuz he wasn't the killer in the OG "Friday the 13th", his mother Pamela was....but if Drew had said Mrs. Voorhees, then Ghostface would've just said it's wrong cuz Jason is the killer in the overall franchise...so he was never going to let her live. Also you asked in "Scream" reaction why they killed her, earlier Stu (Matthew Lillard) said he used to date her and Randy confirmed she dumped him.

Trevor S Bright

In the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, Kevin Bacon even referenced the fact that he was killed in Friday the 13th but not by Jason Voorhees. Pamela Voorhees (Jason's mom) was driving a similar Jeep to Steve, cuz Steve was still at camp when she killed Annie, then Steve's Jeep broke down so Mrs. Voorhees still had hers. You wanted to know Jason's motive...revenge!! That and he's basically territorial over the whole forest surrounding the lake. So basically if anyone gets in his line of sight, he'll probably stalk and kill them.

Trevor S Bright

So it's not well known and will probably never win a poll because of that (if people knew it better it would 100% win a poll at some point). But PLEASE check out "Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon". It's a great movie, it's got a bit of slasher, a bit of comedy, a bit of mockumentary, and is SUPER unique. it's a one of a kind movie and I can't even give you an example without spoiling the plot so PLEASE consider checking it out for the Natmare season! <3

Jonah Bertorelli

Thank you for taking it upon yourself to watch this, I was excited to see that we had a friday the 13th this october, and I was hoping one of my favorite reactors would do a reaction to it, there's no time better than today!

Jonah Bertorelli

I would love for you to do it follows. I think either that or autopsy of Jane Doe are my favorite horror movies

Lobos625

Great reaction. Great movie pick. Glad you didn't know who the killer was and about the jump scare at the end.

Shaun Bloom

While the first Halloween and A Nightmare on Elm Street are considered the best films of their franchises, it's some of the Friday the 13th sequels which are considered better specifically 2, 4 The Final Chapter and 6 Jason Lives.

Lee Gannon

I don’t care for this franchise at all, but i’m gonna rewatch this one just for Nat.

djKENTO

I really hope The Strangers is in the next poll 🙏

AngelAlCapone

hahahaha, love that Arnie's the final girl! I fucking love that movie!

Logan Kerlee

While I LOVE Interview With A Vampire, that one's not really horror movie month material. That one's a watch anytime movie. It's a solid one, and one that I'll happily request/recommend but it just require Halloween to watch it.

Logan Kerlee

She commented on this at the very end! She wasn't spoiled at all because she made noise throughout the spoiler scenes while watching Scream. xD

Logan Kerlee

Big yup on this! Her Natmares this year has been EXCELLENT!

Logan Kerlee

(as usual, I'm just writing all of this as I watch the movie with you) I am STOKED to watch this with you Nat! I'm not huge on this one in particular - but it's okay. It's all good that you're releasing this on Friday 13th on YouTube and here! TOTALLY understand. :) 100% with you on all that. I'm hoping for The Crow on Halloween, personally. Isn't a horror movie AT ALL but it takes place on Halloween and is a very quality watch. Isn't a required Halloween watch by any stretch - story just takes place that night. This is a quality horror movie 100%, though. May not be my favorite in the series at all but it's a good one. lmao, men in the 80's were VERY forward. Is that Kevin Bacon? What the hell? hahaha, if it is, I had no idea he was in this or completely forgot. IT IS! Whoa! hahaha, I totally spaced that he was in this movie. hahahaha, love how you're placing death sentences on people. xD You're right, but still. xD The music is horror movie music, 100%. This movie set the bar for me when it comes to horror movies. I think this movie took place before that whole thing came about, the "no animals weree harmed in this movie" thing. Like I said before, these movies terrified me on a whole other level when I was a kid. I live up in the Pacific Northwest where there are trees EVERYWHERE and each summer as a boy, without fail I went camping. Never out to a place with camp counselors though, nah - I just went with friends/family out in the woods for a few days to a week. Always had fun, fun, fun! :) lol, yeah - sin isn't what gets you in this movie. Camp counselors get what's coming to 'em. Jason uses a variety of weapons throughout the series. lmao!! RIP Kevin Bacon! hahaha, that was wicked. Your reaction to that was more freaky than what happened. :P lol, she isn't cookoo, she's quoting some movie. Here's a solid skin care tip - avoid getting your face axed! xD I don't know any of the counselor's names. xD $2.25 is so cheap for food at diners. Maaaaan, I miss when prices were that low. xD lol, Friday the 13th is just any casual Friday in this world. Nothing special about it at all. hahahaha, wow! That whole ch-ch-ch-ah-ah-ah bit creeps me out! lmao, memories as a kid is why! This movie is pretty tame in terms of horror and scare factor when compared with some of the others. I'm thankful that you didnn't begin with the modern version - but if you're only watching one this may not be super terrifying for ya. lmao, love that music is working on ya! It TOTALLY works with this movie! As a kid... oh man! xD Imagine watching this as a kid, I watched all of these movies at such a young age. Obviously I blame my mom, but whatever, the movies were fun at the time. lol, Ralph was just keeping people on their toes! I can't wait until the reveal. I really hope that you continue watching these! They're all scary like this but if you enjoy this on any level - the others will be quality watches as well. hahahaha, I really love how worked up you're getting with this one Nat! lol, if you're expecting anything happy with these movies Nat, you're watching the wrong movie. At that moment I'd abandon any proximity to all windows. This reveal's going to be good! LOVE that you like the twist in this one! hahahaha, Mrs. Voorhees lost her knife awhile back. There are and were so many things to defend herself with. She's a lost cause! lmao and no, of course she refuses to strike the killing blow or to take her knife. STUPID GIRL. LMAO that decapitation with the machete blade is so wicked unreal. Her dumbass is going to the center of the lake where you know who drowned. xD hahahahaha, you can't tell me that wasn't forshadowed! hahahahaha, that realization at the end with the campiness in the movie. xD Good times! lol, he did say that in Scream! Glad you decided to "LALALALA" during that! Texas Chainsaw Massacre is HOLY SHIT SCARY! lol, this was fun - that one's BIG SCARY. If you do wind up watching that as a reaction, I'll enjoy it. I disagree with your breadcrum idead. I really prefer it this way. Though, I may've felt similarly when I first watched this SO MANY YEARS AGO! OH! BOOO!! lmao, wow! The others are a lot scarier and less campy. Well, some of them are at least. xD Not upset that you won't watch any of the others but I am disappointed. :P

Logan Kerlee

UNFORTUNATELY NAT.. The Snake was killed in this flick. They actually did kill the snake in that scene

Squ33ky

I don't know how to break this to you Nat, but the chainsaw killer is probably in the horror film series called Texas Chainsaw Massacre

ButtyOh

I would have to think about it… did Jamie Lee popularize/essentially create the trope in Halloween? I think there was a book written about the “final girl” but can’t recall which role was pointed to as the one that really solidified it as a staple of horror films.

Jeff K

I am excited to watch this with youuuu!! Except, I don't know which one you chose. xD I'm sure I'll enjoy it either way.

Logan Kerlee

The "Last woman alive" is called the Final Girl and the best final girl of all time is Arnold Schwarzenegger in Predator. (Yes, sometimes men are the final girl.)

Essero Eson

Shocked Nat didn't recognize Kevin Bacon in his starring role. EDIT: never mind. She mentioned it at the end. 😄

Boomcity

I agree that both Friday the 13th & halloween , are not that interesting horror movies. i have a allot of better suggestions for the next poll : Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) Interview with the Vampire (1994) Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) Candyman (1992) The Exorcist III (1990) Annihilation (2018) sci-fi horror from the Director of Ex Machina

Peter Heine

Is no one picking up on the Elvira cosplay outfit?

Mastervodo

If by refine, they openly were ripping it off to compete with it. The bluray commentary with one of the writers said he was told they are basically ripping off Halloween. To be fair, it obviously jumped off into its own thing, but still funny that Friday the 13th was intentionally supposed to be a rip-off of another film.

Game Wizard001

The movie itself is a honestly a little boring 😅 but the twist and the fantastic practical effects by Tom Savini, horror legend, are what makes this movie a classic worth watching - and even then x

Daniel McGuinness

Hopefully you had forgotten the spoiler Scream gave you about this movie. Ah well. While Halloween gave birth to the horror slasher genre, Friday the 13th refined it.

Jomero

You may well answer this in the video, but was it spoiled for you by Scream? If so, how much did it end up mattering to you?

Arthur Bright

Look at this lineup this year for Natmares: Halloween, Scream, Conjuring and now F13? Even Coraline was spooky related. If Nat ends on a high note, like maybe Candyman or TCSM and even a newer one like Talk to Me or heck, Halloween 2018, this would easily be the best Natmares yet :)

Mike Hell

Thank you 🙏. I follow a few reactors and you’re the only one smart enough to get this done today…so far.🤷‍♂️

Bryan Erickson

Was hoping for Talk to Me

Daniel Casillas

Season of the OGs! This Natmares has been incredible <3

Danishprince

Happy Natmares Feature Friday the 13th Nat! 🤗 Not had the greatest of days, so I've been really looking forward to watching your movie all day. Love that you're putting your reaction up on Youtube today as well. It's a first for your channel, so it's very cool 😊 I needed that Nattie. Thanks for a really fun reaction today. This movie is one of the 80s classics and still has some entertaining and jumpy moments. The music is definitely a crossover between Psycho and Jaws. During the sex scene, when you were discussing the camera position and said what if the cameraman was right in the crack, I about died 😂 Loved when you jumped at the end 😱 The hockey mask won't make an appearance until the 3rd movie, which was also released in 3D at the time. Thanks again for an awesome video today Nat, and for all your great content this week. Have an amazing weekend 💛

Darryl Low

I’m shocked. Shocked, I say. Who could have foreseen this?
