FIRST TIME WATCHING: X-Men '97 S1E3

Hey folks!

It's time to get back into this show. What a wild episode!

Apologies in advance for the chaos that ensues halfway into this reaction, when I see a massive spider in my room...I hate spiders.

As always, thank you for your support here on Patreon. Until the next one, take care and stay golden :)

Are you sure you saw a spider? Sinister wasn't messing with you head ike he did with the X-Men? lol Calling your husband useless on Patreon. No one is perfect but you're not a sweet as you act.

this is hilarious

Spiders are our friends... they eat flies and mosquitoes. There are some that even eat roaches. Spiders help rid the world of the real enemies. And, with some rare exceptions, spiders leave humans alone. As far as I know you don't live in the southwest or in Australia, so the spiders around you should all be harmless little buddies that want to rid your house of actual pests.

So the scene with morph joking to wolverine in the shower is a reference to the fact that wolverine and morph has always been best friends but morph being secretly a gay leaning bisexual has always wanted more out of their relationship but has never managed to come out of closet or discuss his feelings as of yet. Morph has also been confirmed by the creators to be Non-Binary Gendered. Anyways I hope none of this counts as too spoilery.

Would you consider watching the Umbrella Academy - certainly the first two years a good and the last year is a stinko

John Liebling

Even Nat couldn’t help but be down bad for Madelyne lol

Lucky Dragon

yeah, hard to condense a year long comic book event into a 30 minute episode without skipping some bits, lol

Episode 4 is the weakest but then it only goes up from there! The rest of the season is so damn fantastic it's crazy

The blonde girl with the Russian accent and the sword Morph turns into is meant to be Illyana Rasputin, canonically Colossus' little sister. Anya Taylor Joy played her in New Mutants (live action). I don't blame you if you don't remember, that was a terrible movie. Good luck with your spider boss battle!

This video was a good reminder why I like living in the northern europe, because our spiders don't grow to be that big. 😁

Also that little scene with Morph and Logan in the showers was intentionally flirtatious on Morph’s part. They have a close relationship and It’s heavily implied that Morph has some unrequited feelings for Logan 👀 hence sinister’s taunting “As if I don’t know. As if we all don’t know..” 🥺

This episode is a lot for someone not too familiar with the X-Men universe, I watched liked 2 seasons on the original xmen cartoon on Disney+ in preparation for ‘97 lmao Also tell me why this episode made me tear up the first time I watched it… Madelyn’s speech to her baby at the end 😮‍💨 like imagine finding out you’re a clone made by an evil psychopath and 90% of your memories aren’t yours but your Original’s, and she comes back out of the blue to take your man and the baby you’ve just given birth to with your maybe-Husband gets a technological disease and has to be sent to the future… I’d crash out too tf

Sinister least what I know about him is pretty crazy Marvel villain, he essentially made himself into a mutant doing many experiments on himself and them over the 100's of years, he's been stalking Jean and Scott since they were kids so that should tell you how obsessed he is with them and yes there are much more powerful omega level mutants out there other than Jean like Xavier's son for example Legion which is also the name of the FX show they did on him 3 seasons but Sinister has studied Scott and Jean for years that he knows their genes together would create a powerful mutant with the added experimenting on him that he was planning to do. And yea Sinister brain washed Morph in the old show and had him tricking the X men left and right till the X men were able to help Morph mainly Logan cause he and Morph were best friends Morph being the only one who can make Logan laugh

I loved this episode, especially when the giant spider attacked the protagonist, what a battle.

That's a great video but it's so much information, Feel like it would better to continue watching X-Men '97 with zero knowledge of the past seasons, I was even like "Damn that's alot". May be too overwhelming.

"Inferno" was a company-wide crossover event in Marvel. It was nothing like the episode, covered over 40 comics, plus some of the story being prefaced before the main crossover. Madelyn was introduced as a character, not a clone of Jean Grey at first. There is so much missing, that really there is no comparison to it and this one episode. One of the blonde gals you saw in the episode is Illyana Rasputin, who is the younger sister of Colossus, named Magik. (Played by Anya Taylor-Joy in the New Mutants movie! The character in the movie is also is not a good representation of the character from the comic books.) Way too much to go into about Illyana, but she is immensely powerful. Some of her abilities: Able to teleport herself and others across time and space, Astral Projection, Energy manipulation, Sorcery. She wields a "Soul Sword" that can disrupt magic and magical beings, and is queen of a pocket dimension of daemons called "Limbo". And more.

Dont worry youre not missing out on as much as you think you are, there was never sny reference to a Jean clone in the original show and everything with jean her clone and the baby is all specific to xmen97. Sinister was a reoccuring villian of the old show who morph suffered under the most. And bishop was time travler who came back in the orignal show to stop the days of future pasts storyline that the live action played out. But as the season goes on you'll see the show is telling its own story that isnt too dependent on tieing into things from the orignal

Rey

lol, It had to happen during the horror episode with spider queen Jean. CREEPOUTS IN MAGNIFICENT 4D.

Morph was abandoned by the x-men in the first episode or something, became sinister’s puppet for a while. I forget how exactly that resolved itself, but I do remember Logan being the one that stuck by morph the most, hence you might pick up on their bond The goblin queen thing is from the comics, something to do with the monsters she was using to attack the team earlier I believe. Same goes for Madeline Pryor. Hence why they feel so random, might as well be Easter eggs

N

the girl morph turned into when they were fighting Sinister was Magik who was in New Mutunts. about Sinister choosing Cyclops' dna is not that weird since in the comcis, Cyclops has two younger brothers and they are all pretty powerful mutants. I'm glad that you're enjoying this series so far.

addnid07

Not he, they. Morph is non-binary.

Early into season 1, the X-Men were confronted by Sentinels. The team were led to believe that Morph (birth name Kevin Sydney) was killed by the robots when they took a hit for Wolverine. However, it turns out that Morph did survive but they were taken by Nathaniel Essex better known as Mr. Sinister. The second to last episode of the original cartoon was a flashback episode that showcased how Nathaniel became Sinister. Like Morph explained, he was a brilliant scientist in the 1800’s before eventually going mad. Long story short, the whole thing started when he was trying to find a cure for his ill wife. Sinister’s original voice actor Chris Britton returned for the role. Sinister messed with Morph’s mind and turned them into his puppet. It wasn’t until the end of season 2 when they were finally able to break free from his control, but they still had a long road to recovery. Once they woke up in season 4, they teamed up with Wolverine to destroy Master Mold (who had survived the destruction of the Sentinel factory but was now just a head). The mission was a success, but Morph decided they weren’t ready to rejoin the team full time and ventured out on their own. At least they left on better terms than before. Morph didn’t appear in many episodes of the original show, but they appeared in the season five finale to attend Charles’ farewell. They were the first member of the team that Charles said goodbye to. He told them it was nice to see them home and how they had solidified themself as a true X-Man by facing their fear.

Madelyne Pryor's Inferno: Love this episode, really impressive that they were able to tell a whole story arc from the comics in a single 30 minute episode. This episode pulls heavily from the Inferno storyline a major crossover event in the late 1980s that involved multiple X-Men titles such as X-Men, X-Factor, The New Mutants etc. Then you got the whole Nathan aspect that's pulled from another storyline. The Goblin Queen is not my favourite name but it is from the comics. Does the episode feel a little rushed at times. Indeed, but I still really enjoyed it. I think this storyline Would've benefited from being a two part episode but in the end I actually prefer what they did with Madelyne Pryor in this episode than what we got in the comics. The whole Inferno storyline was like Infinity War level so it was a big event, though this episode only adapted a tiny bit of that storyline, not really a full adaptation, less than a quarter of the comic. Originally Madelyne Pryor was just a Pilot who Scott fell for after the "death of Jean Grey" post Dark Phoenix Saga. She looked just like Jean Grey and was written into the story to give Scott a happy ending, writing him out of X-Men comics. But in the end they retconned Madelyne Pryor to be the Clone of Jean Grey after the real Jean returned, that's a whole other story. Very much prefer how X-Men '97 handled Madelyne Pryor's origin. Speaking on Jean for a second, the death of her best friend is pulled from the comics. That's how Jean first discovered her powers, she even holds a little Cyclops toy as well which is so cute. And in terms of when Jean was swapped some people believe it's around the fourth season. But nobody knows for sure. Jena being a clone was never hinted at in the original series so it came as a surprise to everyone watching X-Men '97. Mister Sinister: Seeing the return of Mister Sinister (Dr. Nathaniel Essex) was a great addition. Morph has a long history with Sinister, dating back to the first episode of the original series. Morph is killed off but it was later revealed that he survived and was captured by Mister Sinister. He becomes his puppet turning him into a weapon against the X-Men. By the end of the original series Morph would redeem himself and gain the trust of the X-Men. Sinister was hinted at in X-Men: Apocalypse's (2016) end credit scene, showcasing a man putting Wolverine's DNA in a suitcase with the label Essex Corporation on it, reference to Dr. Nathaniel Essex aka Mister Sinister. But in the end the films never introduced Sinister. The character of Sebastian Shaw in X-Men: First Class (2011) played by Kevin Bacon is less like his comic counterpart and more inspired by Mister Sinister and a merge of other X-Men characters. So he's the closest we've came to a Sinister in the films.
