I love this show, but ngl, this episode could've been a bit stronger. The reasoning for Cecil to full out attack mark and end any chance at working together was reasoned in a dumb way, in my opinion. They could've really leaned into how much of a control freak Cecil is, like Mark is getting too comfortable going against orders, or they could've had mark lean more into DEMANDING this shit stops immediately. I feel like it would've hit a lot harder if we really felt the stakes rising, it was SUCH a jump right now. Like instead it was just "Cecil, stop doing that!" "UNLEASH EVERYTHING!!!"

2025-02-16 01:02:29 +0000 UTCOne of things that concerns me are the terms that Cecil has used. "Reprogrammed" "Fixed". That sounds too much like mind control. That sounds evil in its own right. Then, as Natalie posited, what happens if something goes wrong with it? Do they go back to their bad ways or perhaps, angry at the forced control, they're even worse. Nolan found empathy on his own. That doesn't excuse his atrocities but it seems like a genuine/truer change that yields a better person. Both Mark and Cecil have a claim to a portion of the truth but given the stakes they're dealing with, in that universe, you can't take an absolutist position either way.

2025-02-13 20:11:16 +0000 UTCI don’t think anyone is condemning mark for killing the brain guy, and as much as Cecil wants to trust mark, he can’t because mark is literally a viltrumite AND an emotional naive teenager, so he has to take precautions. Still he did a pretty shit job at defusing the situation.

2025-02-13 17:12:32 +0000 UTCCecil was a fool for pushing Mark that far. He had no way to regain control over him and trying to so aggressively turned over half of the Guardians against him as well.

2025-02-13 08:33:14 +0000 UTCCecil and everyone that took his side are such hypocrites. He fears and condemns Mark for killing one person in completely justified self-defense, but preaches about forgiveness for sadistic murderers that killed numerous times of their own volition. This confrontation was inevitable because for as much as Cecil pretends to trust Mark he can't bring himself to trust anyone. He truly only sees Mark as a threat so when Mark disagrees with him Cecil tries to force him to submit. Cecil completely crossed the line.

2025-02-13 04:14:09 +0000 UTCThe Cecil/Mark conflict is probably one of my favourite things in the whole show so far, because you can easily see both sides. Cecil is doing whatever he thinks is best to protect humanity, no matter what. Heavily influenced by his former boss and his experiences in the field - and with Nolan specifically. Cecil was the one who welcomed Nolan into the Guardians and obviously holds a lot of guilt because of that, taking as many precautions as possible. But I think at times he’s too dehumanising, with the excuse that he has to be. Mark is young and has a strong moral compass, wondering what’s the point in winning if we become monsters ourselves in the process. He’s emotional and at times immature, seeing things in black and white compared to Cecil’s shades of gray. But he’s trusting and loyal and values every life individually. Cecil broke that trust and he should be prepared to deal with the consequences. The bomb in Marks head was 100% a step too far. Even Bulletproof said he “can’t work for a man he doesn’t trust”. He wants Mark to “just follow orders” yet if he followed orders from his father they’d have conquered the planet together like in every other reality… People like to big Cecil up and say he’s objectively doing the right thing, and I can see where he’s coming from, but I think Mark is right too. He’s not a pet, or a weapon, he’s a person. If you want his help, ask for it. Call me selfish but if some government asshole put a bomb in my head and lied to me every step of the way I wouldn’t work for him either 😂 Even if the world’s at stake… have some manners lol

2025-02-13 04:10:57 +0000 UTCMark is really bothered because of what DA sinclair did to his best friend and his boyfriend and the thought of cecil allowing him to continue his experiments. Imagine sinclair did that to your wife, how would you react to realizing you are now on the same team?

2025-02-13 00:36:07 +0000 UTCLoved your reactions to the first couple episodes!! The Cecil-Mark conflict was interesting and I definitely see both sides. However, Mark is too emotional/immature to have a proper conversation and Cecil is too obsessed with control to diffuse the situation in a meaningful way. I hope they end on better terms by the conclusion of the season. The world needs them both. I hope you enjoy episode 3 and beyond! Should be a great season :)

2025-02-12 21:38:43 +0000 UTCCecil is right, Mark is an overemotional guilt coping naive teenager. As for your comments Nat: saying Cecil should just let mark go off after mark literally said ''im far past reasonable now'' probably isn't the right decision. Guys, am I remembering something wrong or why are so many people angry with Cecil, who is doing the same thing batman would?

2025-02-12 20:09:06 +0000 UTCI think this is the best summary of the Mark-Cecil situation (and I'm not saying that Cecil is 100% in the right): "One of DCs scariest stories is about Superman being evil. Now imagine if Superman was evil and there was a whole empire of him. That's the stress Cecil is under while Mark is busy jabbering about right and wrong."
