Well, the Tekken Devs just dropped a bombshell out of left field here on the final day of EVO 2024. After all the silly Chipotle and Nike collab announcements, we finally get an actual Tekken 8 trailer with Harada and Murray doing their usual fake out routine. But the actual content of the trailer was really a surprise. Or was it?
Instead of Fahkumram or Marduk being revealed, we get a trailer showing off additional Story Mode scenes featuring a faction of Tekken Monks, Eddy and Lidia in action and last but not least- the return of a Very Much Alive Heihachi Mishima.
Yes, apparently getting thrown into a volcano still isn't enough to kill the True King of Iron Fist. Hell, it was probably that which brought him back- I think literally being submerged in molten lava was just a rejuvenating sauna for the man. At least, that's what I am thinking.
The Story Mode looks to continue as well what happens with Reina and her new Devil powers- she surely has loyalty to Heihachi, her father. But will she play second fiddle to her old man, or will she actually become a rival to him?
Also, they showed Lidia in quite a few scenes, and some of them while in her Karate Gi, so she is surely going to see action. Hopefully she mains this story, instead of having to rely on Jin and Lars. But I wouldn't be averse to seeing her get KO'ed (at least for a while) along the way.
We'll have to see what happens when the Story Mode continues, assumedly when Heihachi returns to the game in Autumn 2024.
All I can say is, at least the Marduk-Fahk leak seems to have been proven false, or perhaps altered. So who will be the final Season 1 Fighter? Still one of those two, or someone totally new? Perhaps another babe? Hey, stranger things have happened- and have.
