)O( The Elements )O(

As you may know, the cardinal directions and the four elements of creation have been correlated in cultures and traditions around the world.  Many practitioners of a specific format believe that their interpretation is the most accurate or effective.  You will find that I tend to laugh at such assertions.  From my understanding, these correlations are about analyzing and describing the synergistic interactions that occur between the concepts at hand.  As such, a mystic has the right to create any set of correlations that helps them describe, identify, and understand the world and its attributes.
In the image above, you will see my preferred arrangement of the elements and directions, as well as a word that describes the human experience aspects of what each element/direction represents.  Let's break these apart, one by one, so you can understand the importance and significance of the cardinal elements before we start using them to create sacred space or other acts of power.

Direction of North
Element of Air
Natural occurrence:  Wind (breath/breeze/bubbles/smoke)
Human experience attribute:  Emotions/Feeling

Direction of East
Element of Earth
Natural occurrence:  Land (Rocks/ash/soil/bones)
Human experience attribute:  Wisdom/Thinking

Direction of South
Element of Fire
Natural occurrence:  Fire (Flames/lava/sparks/embers)
Human experience attribute:  Passion/Wanting

Direction of West
Element of Water
Natural occurrence:  Sea (Rivers/tears/rain/pools)
Human experience attribute:  Intuition/Dreaming

"Direction" of Center
Element of Spirit
Natural occurrence:  Flora and fauna
Human experience attribute:  Enlightenment/Transcending

A mystic is able to create almost infinite unique arrangements, and processes by using these initial correlations as their template.  Isn't it neat how a bonfire at the beach immediately immerses us in an experience of all of the elements?  How would you describe the place between Dreaming and Enlightenment?  Have you ever had emotions reinforce your intuition, or vice versa?   What do you find to the Northeast or Southwest in your heart once you place yourself at Center?

Welcome to the language of my world.  Feel free to ask questions, always.  I know I will.  I LOVE questions. Truthfully, I am a bit of a sphinx. <3

Ah, thank you for the compliment! Water is commonly attributed to emotion in many schools! If you think of blood as related to water, then the rest is just math. In my practice, I consider water the element of intuition because of its connection to all life on the planet as well as the spirit world. Essentially, I am taking a necromancer's approach to the elements. Blood comes from fire, because passion sparks creation. Water is the conduit of spiritual activity in the physical world. Air, the thing that we all must breathe in and exhale out into the collective constantly, is a volatile, unseen force that cannot be visually described, only experienced. Like love. Air is also the medium by which we sing and speak to convey our feelings. Great question!

This is such a beautiful and grounded explanation! Thanks Raven :) I do have one question - I've often heard water described as the element of emotions/heart, and wind being about intellect, thought, and speech (like, swords in Tarot). Do you know where the difference comes from? <3
