She was too kawaii to die. :/ But I'm glad I had the pleasure of meeting Ranga's VA, the Character Designer, and Assistant Director behind this anime at Otakon 2019. They had two whole panels, and I was able to get their autographs. :)

They split Shizu's stories into multiple parts and laced them around the main story so it feels a lot more integrated. You were kinda left guessing from the hints that Shizu was definitely going to die and become a part of Rimuru. First Hint: Shizu's from the WW2 era when America bombed the shit out of Japan with fire bombs, hence her age would clue you in. Second Hint: "Destined person" was used to describe her, but it's deliberately kept vague. Third Hint: We've seen Rimuru eat a lot of creatures and take their form. So how would Rimuru take a human form without straight up murdering an innocent person? Plot foreshadowing right there lol.
