Added 2023-03-30 01:41:33 +0000 UTCI went and saw John Wick 4 last Friday night. Honestly, going in I wasn't expecting a whole lot outside of cool action scenes. The series progressively got worse IMO with its world building and addition of uninteresting characters. But 4 really picked things back up. Sure, the world building is still rather dumb, but the new side characters made for a really fun dynamic between them and John. I still think the first film is the best in the series, but 4 takes the second spot hands down.
Makoto Shinkai's new film Suzume is part of AMC A-List, so I'm definitely going to see that in IMAX in a few weeks. I've been a fan of his since ADV released Voices of a Distant Star and The Place Promised In Our Early Days on DVD. I even went out and bought the ADV release of 5 Centimeters Per Second the day it came out, only to see it disappear from stores and go OOP within a few months. I've since upgraded it to blu-ray, but I hang onto that old DVD copy since it's the only version with the ADV dub on it. Every rerelease has used the BangZoom dub. Which is fine, but I'm a completionist when it comes to that sort of thing. If there's alternate dub tracks out there I want them all.
With all his films, he more or less tells the same story, but I'm down for it every time. Except Children Who Chase Lost Voices. That was a bad version of Castle in the Sky. I'm cool with never seeing it again.
