Patreon strikes again with another awesome update

Heya! Patreon sent me a message about a change in the pricing for iOS in-app purchases. I don’t have any Apple devices, but if you are using one, you’ll want to check this info post on Patreon’s support page.

As with most of their changes, I was prepared for another stroke of genius. Well, I think they outdid themselves with this one. If I understood everything right, you’ll get a 30% markup if you’ll make a direct purchase via Patreon’s iOS app using Apple in-app payment. Why? To comply with “App Store policies”, Patreon says. To my knowledge, if you do the same pledge via a web browser, there’s no markup.

Uh... I don’t really know what to say about this. Don’t use the app from their store and just do your pledges directly through a web browser. Give the genius crew of the involved companies your huge middle finger. Don’t know who decided that 30% markup for using their brand app to get the same product you can get without said markup via any browser is a great idea... This is beyond idiocy.
