Obligatory Patreon charges post
Added 2017-12-08 14:20:18 +0000 UTCHello folks - as you're probably aware, Patreon is making some changes to how they handle processing fees. Creators used to be charged these fees, but starting soon they will be charged instead to patrons. Me & everyone else who uses this site I've spoken to has regarded this as a bad decision.
The worry is that a user who supports many creators will see themselves getting charged an extra % for every one & start having to drop out of certain pledges. & that new patrons may be put off by the charges
I'm making this post to repeat something I posted on twitter: if you find yourself needing to drop out of a pledge, I totally understand if you need to drop mine. & I'd encourage you to do so over creators who earn less than me on here. I'm doing okay financially & all the right numbers are still going up, so I'll be okay.
Thanks folks. Let's hope this is the last silliness we have to deal with on here

I renewed all my pledges (and added some new ones because I'd been procrastinating on contributing, anyway) after Patreon announced that today they will no longer move forward with the fee structures. Hooray for the power of unified outrage!

2017-12-14 03:26:08 +0000 UTCLuckily I only support you and Hbomb on here so far so I hope they get rid of the silliness but I'll still support you! Keep up the good work!

2017-12-11 12:08:57 +0000 UTCHey, Shaun, do you have a PayPal or some such? I'm going to be leaving Patreon until they get their act together, but I want to keep supporting you.

2017-12-09 14:03:18 +0000 UTCThanks for this note. I used to support a bunch of people at the $1 level, but with this change I've dropped all my $1 pledges. I've also upped by pledge to you and a few others on a per project level, but limited them to once a month to minimise fees. It's a shame because I'd just recently added a bunch of new $1 pledges as they were all in the same transaction anyway. Are you looking at alternatives? This seems an opportunity for someone to come up with a better website. Preferably as some sort of artist's co-op.
