History on Fire

Brilliant! This hits very close to home for me. I think Italy shares a lot with Ireland in that respect. Sneering is definitely our national sport too. I believe it's a memento of that wonderful Catholic Church. For centuries they used shame to control people. It's in our DNA at this stage. People who are ashamed are afraid to stick their neck out, stand out in the pack, for fear of being shamed again. They project their shame onto other people. Then they resent those who have the courage to live more freely than them. That's what sneering is, really. It's a contagious, oppressive culture of shaming. We've be doing it for so long we forgot why we started, and it was for stupid religious reasons. They came up with such a powerful method of mind control, we're still suffering from it. I'm no historian, and I've never read the bible. But I'm pretty sure anything outside of praying and giving your money to the Catholic church was considered shameful. The priest is the ultimate sneer is some sense! Incredibly cynical of anything outside of Jesus. Thinks you are a fool to believe in anything else, thinks you will fail, burn in hell, if you dared to consider another way of life.
