Yeah, I remember this. Only that one line though. And I didn't know that 'Blow the House Down' (which I remember even less clearly) was the same group. But Johnny Hates Jazz, I had that album. And Danny Wilson - Mary's Prayer, I still find myself whistling that at odd times.

I vaguely remember possibly hearing this song in passing once...although it might have been a dream...
That said, "Shattered Dreams" by Johnny Hates Jazz is one of my favorite songs ever

If I were around in 1987, I would've thought this was the latest Go West single.

I've heard this song before, but I think it was from a local radio show called Crap From The Past which mostly plays obscure 70s and 80s pop songs (both good and bad; if you're a fan of that era of music I can't recommend it enough and the website has *20 years* of shows available to stream for free). Also thanks for reminding me that Prefab Sprout exists!

I totally remember this song AND the follow-up "Scales of Justice"! I was living in South Africa at the time, and both songs got a lot of radio airplay there. It sounds like they were less popular in the States.

The only time I heard it was a clip in AMV Hell.

Prefab Sprout is one of my fave "sophistipop" bands, besides Scritti Politti. That may be because they both had legit fine songwriters in Paddy McAloon and Green Gartside. And Scotland's The Blue Nile also have a couple solid 1980s albums.

Damn, I was 15 when this came out and I barely remember it! Sadly I "rocked out" more to Level 17 and Swing Out Sister...oh and Danny Wilson's "Mary's Prayer" that I still listen to this day.....I need to find more music....

They play an eighties station at work that goes through the chart week by week so there is a lot of music I can recognize but not name but I don't think I ever heard this one.

Wow, now this is one I've never heard before... and probably never will again.
