It's a habit that you have sometimes, where you will talk over an important bit and not go back and then miss out on a key tidbit. The part you went back to wasn't the part chat was letting you know about. It was further back to the meeting with the cops toward the beginning. The black haired cop mentioned him when he saw him in the picture and pointed him out. TLDR; Joe not paying attention does not equal spoiler. I side with chat on this one. :P

We then immediately cut to the guy, and he brought up the conversation when they caught that guy on camera, implying it was indeed the cop that he was talking about that made him learn about "connections."
