Hyouka Ep. 15-16 Reaction [FULL]

Comments

For Satoshi's reactions, remember what Irisu said to Houtarou last time: What would the hardworking benchwarmer feel when the MVP says "he only got lucky"? It was to lure him in but what Irisu said has some truth to it. That's how Houtarou has been brushing off his achievements so far, and Satoshi has been working hard to solve this case himself.

Nice reaction, I really like the new ED with that little detective vs thieves escape story. List of lost items in orders and name of clubs mentioned in these Eps: "A"kapera (A Capella) Club = "A"pple juice "I"go (Go) Club = "I"shi (stone) pieces "U"ranai (Fortune Telling) Club = "U"nmei na wa (The Wheel of Fortune) "E"ngei (Gardening) Club = "E"ikei (AK water gun) "O"ryori (Cooking) Club = "O"tama (ladie) "Ka"be (Wall) Shinbun (Newspapers) Club = "Ka"tta (Cutter) knife "Ki"jiutsu (Magic) Club = "Ky"andoru (Candle) "Ku" = ??? "Ke"ion (Light Music) Club = "Ge(Ke)"n (String) "Ko" = ??? It maybe hard to understand just by reading the subtitles, but it is much easier if you listen slowly when they pronounce it and you can hear the items and name of the clubs start by the same letter. And they already provided a lot of hints about the missing "Ku".

The Alphabet is based off Japanese characters each letter is for both the Name of the Club being hit and the item stolen from it, and Jumoji means ten letters there will be ten robberies and the Classics Club is a club that starts with the tenth letter, meaning the last robbery will happen at the classics club and they can pitch that to the paper to get publicity and possible catch the thief in the act. Satoshi called it the ABC murders based off a detective Novel by Angne Christie of the same name who the theif is copying, Mayaka talked about it, in the Novel it was in English letters the thief is simply copying the same idea but with Japanese Characters. Chitanda tries to follow Irisu's negotiating advice but takes it way too literally, and she is too kindnatured to do negociating where you have to be thick skinned. Satoshi for his part is trying to prove something to himself and becoming more like that annoying kid trying to compete with him, he's a mirror to see how Satoshi acts when he's trying to outdo Oreki, who he feels jealous of, and its why he's not cooperating with Oreki but trying to compete against him instead. On his evening walk he points out that Oreki has changed or rather shown his true potential thanks to Chitanda and he's glad for them and admires them both, but then goes on to say he needs to solve it himself, he wants to prove he can stand alongside Oreki. Notice when the candle is stolen Satoshi is outside the inner circle of the President, Executive Commitee, President, and The Empress all three people that are "special" Satoshi despite wanting to stand out and be special, Irisu in the Film arc doesn't even remember him despite them both settling a dispute on the council but she DOES remember Oreki. Oreki btw was angry earlier about Satoshi's suggestion because he didn't want to be used like a dancing monkey to attract costumers (Him being used by others is a sore spot for him.) And no they WANT something that start with Ko so the thief will try to steal from them to catch him in the act. In the Novels the Sister Tomoe was wearing boyshorts and had a tan so imagine that with that camera close up of her peach. ;) Mayaka's cosplay on the third day is Senri Mariko from Rainbow Parakeet a crime/caper Manga. Koichi's is Mai Shiranui from Fatal Fury and King of Fighters. (Koichi in the Novels actually cosplayed as Chun Li on the second day instead of King fun fact.) Koichi changes her cosplays everyday just saying.... Satoshi is sad after talking to Hotaro on the balcony because he's basically given up on trying to solve it and has to reply on Oreki's genius detective skills. Also why he was upset that Oreki somehow pulled something out a thin air that he couldn't think of and had to "dial it back." In the Novels he has an internal monologue in this moment that he is sad that he'll never be able to guess or comprehend what goes on in Oreki's head....
