Early access: The Toy's Toy, Ch. 8

But as I kept soldiering on, I remembered I'd mostly kept the Toy's Toy installments un-Ice-Bearily brief, so I found a good point to separate and here we are. I know, we're all shocked it's growing bigger than I intended. (That's what Devon said.)
So I might divert to other projects while I work, as TTT chapters always take a little more than I expect, but for now, here's something hopefully fun. More to come.

Oh, no, wait -- DeVon. Sorry, I guess I've always read that wrong. My concern in reading this chapter was less about quality, and more about memory; namely, what the fuck was even going on in this series anymore? It feels like it's been a minute. *checks spreadsheet* Holy shit, sixteen months?! Wow. I'd complain, but three RA books came out in the meantime, plus one of my commissions, so why point fingers. To forgive is divine, right? Beyond how RELENTLESSLY funny this chapter ended up being (I seriously laughed out loud at every single paragraph), I love how this ended up being a return to TTT that sunk me so quickly into the particular rhythms of this series -- the caustic humor and unexpected sweetness, all in service of a complete monster -- that any possibly-forgotten details of past chapters were as irrelevant to me as getting the correct context of Biblical stories is to Devon. Best twist, honestly. Devon using the Bible to absolve herself of blame while wielding it like a weapon on others is both the most Devon way for her to find faith, and so perfectly satirical of organized religion that it kills me. It's the same Be Careful What You Wish For ethos that has powered Devon throughout the run, and it is now reaching its apotheosis and/or armageddon. I don't know what to root for! More TTT, obviously; I'm rooting for that.
