I was never really on either team, or maybe I was on both. I would have been fine either way honestly

i understand the idea that she never felt that way about him because through high school it was mentioned a couple times that she didn't really know what love for a boyfriend was like.
With that said, I hate to think of her somehow never feeling that way about Junghwan. I like to just think he waited and waited until it was too late. Admittedly reflecting back on the show now a couple weeks later I don't think he ever had the chance after they grew up, only in high school. I think he blew his shot by never taking it.

Welcome to the infamous Team Taek vs. Team Jung-Hwan debate in Reply 1988. It’s one of the most hotly debated K-drama ships—both among Korean viewers when the show originally aired and among international viewers later on.
Fun Fact: The actress and actor who played Deok-Sun and Jung-Hwan dated in real life after the show. They broke up a couple of years ago after dating publicly for six years.

Deoksun knew the confession was real. Remember, back in the few episodes, where they showed future Deoksun looking at the concert photo and she said “he must have liked me since then”.
She didnt need to answer Junghwan’s confession out loud, though. Junghwan saw how quick she turned her head to the door to see if it was Taek even after his confession, that’s her answer; he knew that.
Tbh, if she really liked Junghwan she could’ve took the ring w her and try talk to him after Sunwoo and Dongryeong left; but she didnt. There’s a lot of things she could’ve done if she felt the same.
She simply truly didnt feel or possibly even never felt that type of way about Junghwan.
