Is Hovering to Pee Bad for Your Pelvic Floor? Pelvic Floor Expert Debunks Myths

Is hovering to pee actually harmful? Let’s bust this common pelvic health myth with research-backed facts.

If you’re a hoverer, you’re not alone—85% of people admit to squatting over public toilets. But does this actually mess up your pelvic floor or cause bladder issues?

We’re diving into what science says about peeing positions, bladder health, and whether hovering is actually bad for you (spoiler: it’s not as deep as you think). Plus, the real culprit behind pelvic tension might just be your anxiety, not your squat game.

Watch the full video to find out if you’re doomed (joking, you’re fine!) and, most importantly—if you sprinkle while you tinkle, please do the next person a solid and wipe the seat.

Would love to open up a discussion on this! Let me know your thoughts in the comments ❤️

Ah yes, the longer hose does require more handling while sitting. 🚿

I am not sure why exactly but I try never to pee sitting down as more often than not I seem to end up with pee coming between the seat and bowl and getting it all over my pants and the floor. If I just have to pee while on the throne I end up holding things pointing down into the bowl.

Yeah, there's a lot of fear mongering on social media about this topic. "Never hover over a toilet seat because it will damage your pelvic floor or cause bladder issues" blah, blah, blah. It's that that straight forward and for some hovering gives them greater access to empty their bladder—my mother, for example, uses the pressure from hovering to empty her bladder (she was born with spina bifida and has neurogenic, flaccid bladder muscle). Any hooters (thanks Raymond 🤣), of course it is beneficial to relax your body to urinate but hovering on occasion in public restrooms will not be the end of the world or your pelvic floor.

I thought the video was mostly going to be about hovering over the toilet in public restrooms like a gas station or portable toilet (pota-potty). Which really was mention at the last 30sec. Mostly this was about is there a difference or right way ohhaa as

Yes, that can be the case for some men—urinating standing is actually easier than sitting. There's room for variability. 🙂

"Sprinkle while you tinkle!" Dr. you continue to crack me up. I nearly sprinkled my pants reading that. It reminded me of when I used to guard high value transports cross country and we would stop for a restroom break. Many of the public restrooms at these truck stops looked like crime scenes.

"Let go and let it flow" 😊 I have been actually under the impression that my flow is slower when I am sitting versus standing - odd to hear that it should be basically the same.
