Intimacy Is More Than Just P-in-V: Watch the Book Club Replay!

What Is Intimacy, Really? Hint: Not Just P-in-V (Book Club Replay)

Missed the bookclub livestream? Don’t worry, I’ve got the replay right here for you.

We explored “Good Sex Is Intimate” from Dr. Candice Nicole’s book Good Sex, and let’s just say…it got intimate. From unpacking what intimacy actually means in our sex lives to calling out societal pressures, this chapter gave us plenty to chew on.

Whether you’re listening in the car, on a walk, or curled up with your journal, this one’s worth your time.

🧠 Let it simmer, then tell me, what stuck with you?

Drop your reflections below. I always love hearing what resonated for you.

I’m really sorry to hear about your family emergency, Rex. I hope everything is okay. I appreciate you sharing your insights with us too. A lot of men express similar feelings about one-sided sexual intimacy, feeling like they had a “job” to do rather than something to experience or enjoy. I hope you can make it to our special 4th of July livestream. 💙

Thanks for sharing this with us, Steve. You’ve put words to a kind of intimacy that often goes unspoken. It’s tender, grounding, and deeply felt. Appreciate you letting us into that space. You're quite the writer!

I really wanted to attend but had a family emergency. The book club’s conclusion deeply resonated, touching my soul. Growing up without education on sexual desire and intimacy, and having it intertwined with trauma, my focus on satisfying my partner not only pressured them but also continually desensitized me, making me feel my own satisfaction and needs were unimportant. I was always ready when my partner wanted intimacy, but I felt guilt and shame asking for my own needs to be met. The anger that built inside me, which I didn’t understand then, is now clear. I never viewed my needs as part of our shared journey; only my partner’s needs were the ultimate goal. While I knew their desires, they didn’t know my intimate needs or desires. Thanks, Dr. Susie

I may have posted this before, but it seems apropos here. Ass slapping, hair pulling, and bodies colliding is fantastic, but when the butterflies fade, this is the intimacy I want. The dying light of the summer evening filtered through opaque curtains as they danced about in the gentle breeze. The room was bathed in a muted, golden glow. They sat cross-legged in the center of the bed as the air caressed their bare flesh. She sat facing him, encircled by his legs. Her thighs extended over his, heels together behind him. They held hands and locked eyes. His head cocked slightly as his eyes flitted about. He reacquainted himself with the face of the one he loves, memorizing each angle and curve. His fingertips tickled as they tripped lightly over her shoulders and down her sides. She shivered but delighted in the sensation. He encircled her body in his arms and drew her close. She, likewise, wrapped her loving arms around his chest. When their bodies came together, it wasn’t sexual, but rather spiritual. Their individual energies melded together, becoming one. In this moment, every care and concern and each trial and triumph left them, like feathers in the wind. Their minds emptied and they became singularly present in each other’s arms. No words were spoken…verbally. Each could feel the heat of the other. Their breaths synchronized. One heartbeat was now shared by both, beating slowly to a single, loving rhythm. He looked with concern into her eyes, welling up with tears. Suppressed emotions now streamed down her face. He took her face into his hands. Stoically, but with great emotions behind his own eyes, he thumbed away her tears and then smiled and kissed her tenderly. Cupping the back of her head in his hand, he eased her face to his shoulder. She gripped him tightly and breathed a deep sigh. In his arms, she felt safe, comforted, and loved. Now, with his chin upon her shoulder, he gently kissed her neck and whispered into her ear, words meant for her alone. One hand glided up and down the length of her back, while the other caressed her soft hair. They would remain like this for some time, until the daylight faded into darkness. Their bodies remained intertwined, becoming a single, sentient being, independent of this world. Their individual melodies merged to become a beautiful chorus which only they could hear. Both wanted nothing more than to remain in this moment, for eternity.

Steve
