For an album, I think the general idea is to make a body of work that covers a spectrum of your creative output. However when you are limited (as gunna clearly is) it becomes this one big chunk of indistinguishable songs that will quickly burn out because of their lack of distinct character. They saying “we have to have a convo about Gunna” and my response is, a convo about what exactly? None of his songs last. They cool to vibe and chill for in the moment but it’s never something substantial or substantive which is my biggest criticism.

It’s also about how you express your ideas in an imaginative/creative way regardless of what the content is. Gunna lyrics are very surface level/elementary. Thug and Future are good examples of the same content expressed in a significantly more lyrical manner. Notice how they barely had to pause to go over anything. And when they did, it was for lines like “I’m lion in the field, I ain’t no mice” 😂 like come on man. Think about when future says “85 pointers, Ocho cinco diamonds” Gunna ain’t have one line that hit like that this entire album.

Maybe I'm gassing it because he dropped it right after getting out of lock up and took a 'Me v. The Industry' angle that was believable and hard asf, but man that project is certified to me.
