The Spider Ring

She found it lying on the street.  Jewelry of any kind fascinated her even creepier-crawlie jewelry.  It was a small silver spider with a red gemstone of some kind at its centre.  As a rule, she didn't like spiders but this piece fascinated her for some unknown reason.  It had been flattened and bent by being run over several times.  She took it home.  The mounting was twisted beyond repair and had to be removed.The rest, after several hours, could be straightened.  She was surprised at the beauty of the thing even though it was a spider.  Now, what could she do with it?  She decided to sleep on it.

After work, she returned to the piece, her mind made up.  She decided to make it into a belly button ring.  The process didn't take long but waiting for the epoxy glue to harden took hours.  Finally it was done and she decided to see what it look like in place.

As the cold metal warmed against her belly, she let out a shriek as a wave of searing heat passed through her body.  She collapsed to the floor, her arms and legs splayed out at her sides.  She could feel her buttocks expanding even though she could turn her head to see them.  Her legs narrowed in cross section but lengthened.  She could feel the extra joints as they developed.  A twisting heat started at her waist as two more legs were drawn from her body.  The heat, after a short pause, started again just under her arms.  Once more, she felt a pair of strangely jointed limbs drawn from her body.  Finally, the heat started on her arms.  In horror, she watched as her arms hardened and changed shape.  The strange heat twisted her hands into the furred tips of some kind of huge arachnid.  

For several minutes, she couldn't move any of her new limbs but she could feel where they were and what they were touching.  The strange paralysis left her slowly.  Muscles she'd not had before made themselves known to her brain and she tentatively moved each limb and joint in turn.

When her boyfriend let himself in several hours later, he discovered her in her basement work area.  The entire area had been festooned with webs and she was suspended from them.  It was his turn to shriek as she deftly captured him.
