Without spoilers and hopefully any hints - I liked what they did later on and I think that was why the result was all the more crushing and that one episode is one of my favorites of this season (not that I liked what happened but it was very well done). Which is why I do prefer it the way they did it. Actually, if they cut out the Jace and seelie scene in this episode maybe the contrast wouldn't be that jarring :)

2023-06-10 16:57:52 +0000 UTCI just think they probably shouldn’t have done the first time this soon to begin with, I agree it was too soon especially considering it’s Alec’s first relationship I wouldn’t had minded if they waited longer. Also compared to the books their whole relationship starts WAY sooner in the show (which i am glad about). I never thought malec had that much screentime in this season as a couple (especially compared to the future seasons) but I do think the show gets much better in crafting their relationship and giving them development. I think it will make more sense with what I meant about how they make up for this in the future due to feedback but I don’t want to spoil😅😅

2023-06-10 13:03:42 +0000 UTCI agree that the cut off was abrupt. But even though I'm all for more of those two in any shape and form I honestly think that they got A LOT of screen time. They are the only couple so far after all :D When you think about it we had briefly Jace and Clary who got to kiss about three times before they found out that they are siblings so that ended spectacularly. We got Simon pining after Clary and sleeping with Maureen by mistake... maybe Maia but that ended before it started. Jace sleeping with no name girls, Izzy briefly with Meliorn who we haven't seen in at least ten episodes. And Luke woke up his sleeping beauty only for her dying a moment later. So in the end compared to Malec everyone else got shafted. Also if they put sex scene in there so soon after their first date wouldn't that be weird? Or at least I feel I wouldn't feel as much impact emotionally. I mean look at Ryann, she still didn't even get used to them kissing :D

2023-06-10 04:01:49 +0000 UTCIt wasn’t so much a criticism of magnus but of the writers. throughout this season magnus and alec as a couple don’t get a ton of screentime in general, and people thought the writing could’ve been much better. the cutoff of the sex scene was definitely odd and I think when you get around to episode 18 when they make an attempt to fix it you really see how much better it could’ve been the first time around. I think moving into s2B and s3 there’s a big improvement in terms of storyline and screentime for malec

That’s so interesting to me to hear because I didn’t take it or see it like that at all! I saw Magnus saying what he said bc he knew that Alec hadn’t done it before and didn’t want Alec to feel like he HAD to have sex with him in order to keep him interested. I felt like Magnus absolutely wanted too, but also wanted to let Alec know that he wants to be with him, regardless of whether Alec was ready to have sex or not. That’s how I interpreted it anyway!

I mean Magnus didn't explicitly say yes, true, but he didn't say no either and I felt it was implied since he didn't stop him. We are talking about Magnus here. I have no doubt he would say so if he didn't want it. Must be the fade to black shot. Or did you feel the same as those fans? I'm honestly curious.

Magnus who was always the giving one in all of his RSs deserves to be appreciated for a change.. that's why Alec is different and special for Magnus..** also it isn’t mentioned in the show but in the books Alec is the first and only Shadowhunter that Magnus ever dated..bcs deep down he always feared tt if he gave his heart to Nefilim and then gotten it broken he would never recover 😢 *** next ep is going to be a blast 😉 **** alsooooo! 2023-06-09 18:48:25 +0000 UTCYeah alberto actually buffed up so much for S2 (since he was now a vampire) but he actually did TOO much that he was told to relax a little haha I love the Simon/Jace dynamic mostly because Dom and Alberto just have the in real life friendship so the chemistry works well as frenemies This episode actually cause a lot of controversy with malec. Many fans were complaining about how the scene appeared non-consensual and were just very upset with the execution. I will say the show runners did listen and attempt to fix their mistakes in later episodes (which I appreciated) but in light of not wanting to spoil anything I’ll leave it at that. But yes they did have sex in that scene i also love jace and Maia’s little banter moments, the whole “i spit in one” “oh delicious don’t tease me” moment was improved by the two of them i feel like from here on it really progresses into the plot heading towards the 2A finale!

But damn, Simon is so oblivious. It's sad that Clary is noticing him only now when she doesn't have Jace and Simon was kind of moving on. Thank you for this reaction, I laughed so much :)
