I think flight is just an ability that highly skilled airbenders can use, not a type of sub-bending. Air Sub-bending would probably be the spirit techniques that Jinora uses. Airbenders are known for being the most spiritually connected after all, and we've only seen airbenders do this.

2024-05-20 19:54:45 +0000 UTCFor kids this episode is sadly edited, so its unclear but in case you didn't notice...Su put her armor over P'li's head just as she used her explosion...she blew her own head up. With her dead Zaheer;s last "earthly tether" is gone, like how Aang was being taught to let his go in the previous show, but he couldn't get rid of his attachment to Katara. Zaheer has let go his earthly tethers, entered the void, empty and become wind.

2024-05-20 19:50:16 +0000 UTCI think Zaheer just wanted to keep the airbenders for leverage against Korra in the case that Korra somehow got free from the Red Lotus before his plans were complete. If Zaheer freed the airbenders and then Korra escaped it would be back to square one.
