So I mentioned before that Raven is a character that is fantastic to watch on rewatch, as you can see how much she tries to be in control of nearly every situation she is in. You caught her putting on the helmet, and walking behind Cinder, but there is a part that flows into that I absolutely love. When Cinder is explaining how the vault opens, Raven says "it doesn't matter to us", as she puts her right hand on her hip, and "let's get this over with" as she puts her left on her other hip. Her stance and what she says there convey the meaning that she is unguarded, unconcerned, and eager to leave. In actuality, she has put on her helmet so you can't see where she is looking, or any tells she may have when she is lying; and she has just put her hands on her weapon belt, in preparation of stabbing Cinder in the back. And as she is reaching for the weapon, Cinder does something unexpected. Raven didn't know that Cinder could or would risk taking the maiden power before the vault opened and her and Vernal were suddenly rendered disposable, and so she miscalculated. Raven is clever, more clever than most people give her credit for, but she isn't perfect. And so that "I AM!" at the end is tinged with emotion, because Raven just got outmaneuvered by making assumptions, and it cost her a member of her adoptive family.

I love Raven so much, she really is that cunning trickster that Cinder had heard so much about. One of Cinder’s biggest downfalls is how often she tends to underestimate her opponents. That was such an awesome moment and next episode is still, in my opinion, one of the greatest fights in RWBY. MAIDEN V MAIDEN FIIIIGHTTT

Yeah, realistically Yang should've been able to beat Mercury without too much problems. But I think the writers purposely made Yang lose for plot reasons, which always annoys me when shows do that. Yang has proven several times that she is the strongest member of team RWBY. The next two episodes are definitely gonna be 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Thanks for the reminder! 😊

Bethany and Ken

So true

Thats what makes it even better though right? That they dropped clues so it's not like they pulled it out of nowhere. It's what makes a great twist so much more fun when you go back and see the clues 🕵️

Bethany and Ken

We may continue with abridged series here on Patreon. We've had too much bad luck with Hellsing and then obviously SAO to continue to take chances on youtube.

Bethany and Ken

Jaune is more of a booster. He can make other people semblance and aura stronger. It's cracked but RAVEN! OOOOO....OOOOOOOWEEEE! YOU ARE NOT READY FOR NEXT EPISODE!

Fox_CFVY

Yeah those ones always hurt when reactors catch on to them being really odd scenes. My first time I was really caught up in the moment and didn't even notice how out of place it really seems. Its 2 lines that once you notice them its hard to not cringe a little since they really didnt need to exist

The way I always saw the reaction to Ozpins presence as being more so they are shocked he just made it there so fast. especially with Leo remarking about him being a child I think they just thought he would have a harder time finding the crew again so fast and convincing someone to leave their life for his. Just always been my impression. and with Ozpin taking over Oscar, I get its messed up but I've always been on Ozpins side in the series and he would definitely know Oscar would probably get himself killed or wait too long if he didnt take over. Its a total kind of grey area with it but its always fun seeing reactors be excited when Oz takes over and then later being like "Yeah that was a little fucked up"

Wooohooo!! 😎😎.. LARGA VIDA A RWBY!! ❤️🤍💜💛

A reminder with Qrow’s semblance is that it isn’t something he can just turn on or turn off. It’s a passive, so it can affect anyone nearby even if he doesn’t want it to.

Bethany: So who do you think is gonna kill Jaune? Ken: *eyes widen*

Hansel and Gretel is the correct fairy tale association for Hazel. His sister's name was Gretchen. Hazel's action of putting the Dust crystals into his arm doesn't have anything to do with the fact that he is Hansel. But if you recall from one of the first World of Remnant videos you watched - the one on Dust - it was said that "more archaic methods of Dust manipulation are still being used - weaving it into clothing, or even fusing it with one's own body". Bethany - your comment about Raven's mask helping her when she put it on at the bottom of the elevator - it was to disguise the fact that she was the Maiden. Every time we've seen a Maiden use her powers to date, we get that fire effect in their eyes. Amber (the previous fall Maiden) had it, Cinder has it, and we saw Raven with it right at the very end... but when Vernal "summoned" the storm a few episodes ago, Vernal kept her eyes closed the entire time - but Raven was standing right behind her, with her mask on. The mask was hiding the fire effect in Raven's eyes while she summoned the storm, and Vernal was playacting for Cinder, Watts, Emerald, and Mercury. Cinder's uncertainty about Ozpin's presence is also interesting. Yes, she did kill Ozpin at the end of volume 3 - but we never actually saw that moment, so we don't know exactly what happened. And everyone's reaction about "he's (Ozpin) already reincarnated" implies it usually takes Ozpin a lot longer to come back once he's been killed / dies. Cinder may very well be questioning just how strong Ozpin is, and if she could beat him again. I think her arrogance would lead her to believe she could, but she may be having moments of doubt because Ozpin is doing things that she never expected. She's a Maiden - but we learned a few chapters ago that Ozpin was the one who created the Maidens - so the power they wield came from him in some way. Just one minor correction - Jaune WAS using his Semblance there... but the creators clarified that he is NOT a healer. Weiss is being healed, but it's not as obvious as it seems. More explanation will be coming soon - but Jaune is technically NOT healing Weiss in this chapter. Also, with Ozpin taking Oscar over to fight Hazel - yes, Oscar needed the help, but you also have to consider it from Oscar's point of view. He was being very adamant that he wanted to keep control, and Oscar never agreed to be Ozpin's new reincarnation - it was forced on him - that was mentioned last volume. In a very real sense - even if it was for a good reason, i.e. saving Oscar (and Ozpin) from Hazel, Ozpin badly violated Oscar's agency and wishes in that moment. That action also casts some interesting context on just what Ozpin is capable of while he's in the process of the undergoing reincarnation. He claimed in chapter 3 of this volume that Oscar can grant him temporary control of their (now) shared body, but in that chapter he never said anything about taking control by force. It implies some not nice things about what Ozpin is capable of. Don't get me wrong - Ozpin and Oscar are literally my favorite characters in the series because their dynamic is so interesting, but with this show, you really have to look at every detail from every possible perspective to get a full understanding of character motivations. Sorry for the long rant - I love this show so much, and I've spent so much time diving into character motivations and picking out tiny plot details...

Megan Saunders

Hazel's one of my favourite characters because his grudge with Ozpin making him snap when he's normally very level-headed is imo very amusing and interesting.

Ruby's "don't stop" gets memed on all the time too.

I LOVE RWBY

SaviorOfNirn

Because Vernal isn’t the Spring Maiden… I AM! Looking back, you can kind of see how they dropped a few tiny hints. Like Vernal never showing the fiery eyes thing, and Raven always wearing her helmet when Vernal “uses her powers.” But I’ll admit this moment still surprised me on my first watch!

Hunter

Raven being Spring is one of the strongest bits of V5 she has her mask on to hide her eyes, and Vernal has hers closed when they "prove" the Maidenhood The fact Raven stands so casually with her arms crossed while conjuring the storm too while Vernal puts on a show

Lucifer_Crowe

You're bang on with Hansel and Gretel (Hazel and Gretchen)

Lucifer_Crowe

You’re right. Hazel and his sister Gretchen are based on Hansel and Gretal It’s funny Raven basically broadcast to Cinder that Vernal wasn’t really a maiden. She pointed out that Fall was a “surname so appropriate she probably chose it herself” which indicates Vernal isn’t her real name and was chosen to throw people off.

I am still petitioning for you guys to react to the Fate Unlimited Blade works abridged 🤣
