Dragon Ball Z Kakarot Playthrough | Part 7

Yeah we have to get better about doing the meals and bonus stuff before battles

Bethany and Ken

Yep Recoome is basically a dunderhead, no brans just brawn lol. DBZA took advantage of this to make him a wrestler, which I find is pretty funny lol. Great reactions overall, and I have noticed that Ken is really good with offense while Bethany is great with defense, such a great dynamic between y'all. There was a bit of a mistake cutscene-wise, initially Frieza did fight Vegeta in his first form, albeit briefly. Have no idea why they skipped that, but i still enjoyed the cutscenes overall

The game took out the part where Vegeta’s “finishes the job” when Goku defeated Recoome and Burter. Goku saying he didn’t like vegeta killing them.

I found the Burter and Jeice battle super difficult to get past, took me ages to get through that battle lol. I do wonder what inspired Chris Sabat (voice of Vegeta) to make Jeice have an Aussie accent but I assume it was because he lived in Australia for a few years and thought "you know what I should give one of these weird aliens an Aussie accent" 😂

Cynergy

the reaction to Recoome's voice took me out lmaoooo

You should react to this. Coolest fan mad animation for dbz you would love it https://youtu.be/1JKLM45aIik?si=7YUjT6-NRkxxnJKB

My OCD is going a little crazy this episode lol.

1:52:20 A popular fan theory about this is that Grand Elder Guru had Porunga set to only accept wishes in Namekian as a final fail safe from people who would use them for evil (basically encryption). It would make sense bc that's basically what saved everyone from Frieza getting immortality. The fan theory also suggests that Goku is able to grant wishes to Porunga through English later on because Moori removed the condition/configured Porunga to keep Goku as an exception since he saved Namek.

JT

Yup there were episodes dedicated towards Goku's training & workout regimen before he got to namek. I'm starting to think they should watch the show now lol i forgot abridged must've skipped pass that but i've also never been fan of abridged so i wouldn't know but yes Goku's training was inspiring and brutal. The water was deeper in the anime btw lol

Asuka Yousei 妖精帝國

Nail shares the same VA as Goku/King Kai/Goku Black. And ofc, Piccolo and Vegeta share a VA, as well. That’s two Namekians and two Saiyans that fuse together with the same VA’s lol.

k c

Ofc you would know, Hisoka.

1:50:24 Not necessarily. While Shenron could bring several people back with one wish, he could not bring back people who have already died once. Porunga didn't have this limit and could also grant three wishes instead of just one, so he's considered the more powerful dragon. Even with Piccolo and the Earth Dragon Balls back, they wouldn't be able to revive Tien, Chiaotzu, and Krillin (who had died before). Don't know about you, but in the world of Dragon Ball I'd take the option that let's me keep coming back lol. Everyone dies repeatedly.

1:23:39 Since it's never mentioned in the manga, I think that (in universe) Ginyu also has the voice of his stolen body whenever he swaps. The anime and games likely keep Ginyu's original voice to prevent confusion. Everything else should've been a fairly dead giveaway tho, but I guess body swapping is a pretty obtuse technique by Dragon Ball standards.

JT

1:20:09 Oh yeah, don't know if this has been mentioned before, but this reminds me of how Frieza's character came into conception. His gracious and eloquent way of speaking with people was based off that of a land shark. In the late 80s, Japan was dealing with a massive property bubble where land sharks were running rampant. In a 1995 interview, Toriyama had said he came up with Frieza during this bubble and claimed that land sharks were the worst people of all during that time. You can tell they kept the idea around for Frost's personality/actions too.

JT

1:03:36 While part of Goku's ability to grow so much is because of his personality, I also want to stress that he is also putting in the work. Kakarot and DBZA glance over it, but Goku had been training for five straight days as he was flying to Namek. He used the ship's gravity device to get accustomed to training normally under 100x Earth's gravity, and hit himself with Kamehamehas to increase his endurance.

47:30 The more I think about it, the more I wonder if "romantic apron" is just a sketchy translation for what the gift is originally named in Japanese. Curious to know if it would be able to be translated as something like "lovely apron" as well. I couldn't tell ya.

Just finished my first playthrough of the main game a few days ago btw. I'm about to start the Ressurection F DLC. Really looking forward to your reactions to certain cutscenes going forward, though this game did leave out a few key moments. Watching your fight with Guldo was kinda funny, bc I found that this game had gotten easier the further I went along 😆🤗. Using all the tools at my disposal like meals, better moves gained by training, sub story exp, etc made Buu Saga fights fly by. The villainous enemies were fairly tough tho.

JT

Maybe someone mentioned it back when you guys were watching DBZA, but I'll say it here too bc I love the Ginyu Force: Their name scheme is that of dairy products because that is what's stored "under the freezer". Captain Ginyu - Inspired by "gyuunyuu", the Japanese word for cow's milk. Hence why his signature ki blast is usually called "Milky Cannon". Recoome - play on "cream" Burter - play on "butter" Jeice- play on "cheese". More obvious in Japanese were his name sounds closer to "Jheeze" Guldo - play on "yogurt". Specifically the Japanese equivalent (yoguruto)

JT

You guys never saw the DBS anime's version of Ressurection F, so I guess I'll fill you in on the rest of Captain Ginyu's story: He was transported to Earth after the wish to send all living things on Namek to Earth during Goku's battle with Frieza had been made to Porunga. At the start of Frieza's invasion of Earth in the Ressurection F arc, Ginyu body swaps with Tagoma, the lanky pale Frieza force soldier who Frieza threw out the window of his ship in the movie (I don't expect you to recall him). With Tagoma's body, he gets knocked out by Gohan in two blows, gets saved by Frieza, and then dies to Vegeta once he and Goku arrive on Earth. Like many others, I really don't care for the anime's version of Resurrection F, but the one good thing we got from that arc is the ability to officially say that Vegeta killed every Ginyu Force member. Vegeta killed Guldo, Recoome, and Burter here on Namek. Kakarot just doesn't show it because the ways in which he did it were so violent. Had to keep the age rating in check.

Reccoome was 100% a regular at the diddy parties
