Thanks for this suggestion. Sounds like it could be really fun 🙂

Umbreon has been my favorite of the Eevee evolutions for 20+ years. When the original gold and silver came out getting information about how to evolve the 1 Eevee you get into Umbreon or Espion was a massive pain. You had to increase their "friendship" with you which could only be measured by a single npc who had vague sayings then you had to level them up at a specific time of day, nighttime for Umbreon and daytime for Espeion. I've never considered any of the Dark types to be "evil" some of them are little shits that fight with trickery which explains their weakness to fighting types. Spirtomb is the exception as a ghost/dark it has NO weaknesses ghost is immune to fighting types(dark type weakness) and dark is immune to psychic(ghost weakness) until fairy came out in x and y spirtome was the biggest pain in the ass.

To also add what Chris Johnson said in the comments. They are correct that over the years, Dark type Pokémon are given the typing either because of their behavior or just having a simple control over darkness. Like they literally can control darkness. One of their ultimate attacks involves summoning a black hole. So the typing is just applied either metaphorically or literally.

Dark type Pokémon I definitely like the designs of more because I like edgy looking stuff. It’s a type that a lot of people find interesting when they look deeper into it when they hear it’s just localized name of it. Because sometimes what can be considered “evil” can vary for different locations. As for favorite Dark types. Here’s my top 3: 1. Incineroar Being the Fire Starter of Generation 7 (Pokémon Sun & Pokémon Moon), I raised the little kitten into a ferocious heel and kept them on my team for the entire journey. I absolutely love the showmanship they provide when doing attacks, and also, apparently Incineroar loves entertaining children, so it’s even less fitting of the Dark typing, but it keeps its image for the sake of entertaining youngsters. Fun Fact: You two have already seen Incineroar plenty of times because he’s in Smash Bros Ultimate. 2. Yveltal The concept of a giant condor/vulture like creature being the embodiment of Death in the Pokémon world just instantly caught my attention. Without Yveltal, death would not happen and everything would be overrun with too much life. The cycle of life & death must continue for the sake of progression. Fun fact: Yveltal is slso theorized to based on 2 mythological beings. - Wyverns because it has the traditional look of them which is 2 wings and 2 legs. - The great bird that lives atop Yggdrasil. Because of the group Yveltal belongs to seem very based on Norse creatures. 3. Houndoom It’s just a basic devil dog with death motifs on it, but the simplicity of it is what I like. There was also an episode of it in the anime where it acted like a guardian to a baby Pokémon that wasn’t its own species. Really tugged my heartstrings.

One thing I will say is that Dark Type has kinda just become "the element of darkness" overn the years so it's less embodying some evil aspects (or some darker aspects) and just manipulating darkness as well. Also another of Lockstin's video series I would think you'd love is him explaining every Pokemon name. This would basically introduce you to each and every Pokemon there is while getting to see how much fun they have with naming these creatures.

Chris Johnson

19:33 "Team" Gnoggin, huh? Haven't watched many of Lockstin's videos (besides your reactions of him) for about 8-9 years now, so hearing that he's gotten that big is really something. I just remember him from when he was a smaller video game theory channel (which is where he got started on YT). I would watch a lot of his stuff alongside MatPat back when I was a kid who still enjoyed that kind of content. I remember there being a few times where he was uncertain about the future of his channel due to engagement/financial reasons iirc. Guess he found his stride with Pokémon.

I think you two would enjoy reacting to Honest Game Trailers of the Pokemon games. They explain the story and gameplay of the games while adding a lot of satire, especially at the end of the videos where they list off every Pokemon of that generation, but with their own comedic names.

Probably redundant by the time you're reading this, but it seems The Game Awards might be packing some exciting announcements tonight (meaning a lot of new potential trailer reactions requests). Certain insiders have been amping it up, and Geoff Keighley hasn't been trying to dowse expectations as much this year. Guess we'll find out tonight. Always tell myself I won't watch Keighley's shows bc they tend to suck and drag on, but I cave anyway since I like to find out about the game announcements first hand instead of scrolling by them on YouTube/Twitter. Edit: Man, that was actually a fairly good show. Perhaps I'll do a round of requests relating to the world premieres later on.
