2nd universe. Zamasu was at least legit a badass in both power and his look. His preaching just helped us to hate him and want him gone instead of secretly loving him like we do with Frieza now š

Bethany's cringe faces were the highlight of this episode. THANK THE HEAVENS Ribrianne's finally out of the ring, and hopefully U7 will get rid of the rest of those numbskulls so we won't ever have to hear about love from that universe again lol

Yes there should be no more U2 beings that can transform whatsoever š„³

I did too. I'm just saying that we don't have anymore of the transforming members of U2 left š

It's the only reason i love Ribrianne. She's a chunky queen troll & she makes most people angry lmao

Bethany's disdain for the concept of love as a weapon gives me life

Loving your reactions to this arc. Although I'm curious, who annoyed you two more? The 2nd universe going on about love and how it will prevail, or Zamasu preaching all of the time?

This might explain why Iām having a hard time trying to enjoy original DB. It is REALLY light on long-term family/friend bonding. Every time Goku & co reunite, they split a couple of episodes later once a new story starts. Toei-exclusive filler episodes (like ep 31 of OG DB) end up being highlights to me because they are less reluctant to have episodes centered around down to earth character affairs. To be fair, there are some canon episodes like 44 that do that too

Beerus has been uncharacteristically quiet since the tournament started, so hearing him yell āhey eyelashesā out of nowhere was a much needed return to form š¤£

I am so glad I watched DBS in sub, I physically cringed pretty much every time Ribrianne said love.

28:09 I'd say that 17's lack of interest in his family is largely just a result of Toriyama not really being interested in writing about relationships in his work. As I've mentioned before, Toriyama himself once said he wasn't big on including such dynamics and that they were often just included for the sake of satisfying his editors. Keep in mind that a lot of the relationship moments you've seen in Super (i.e the Gohan and Videl stuff in the Saiyaman filler, Krillin and 18's moments in the recruitment arc and tournament, etc.) all came from Toei's writers. The only time that I could really recall a relationship being a focus in Toriyama's work would Gohan and Videl in the Buu Saga, and that could've very well been another moment of him caving to his editor.
Another factor that's more based on my speculation is that 17's values are also a result of Toriyama injecting his love of nature that he gained from growing up in the suburbs of Nagoya (a more "country" part of Japan). It really shines through in characters like Goku, Piccolo, and 17 who spend a lot of their free time alone in the wilderness. It's also been known that Toriyama was a rather secluded man, as his only means of communication with others was mostly by email through his PC. He never owned a smartphone/flip phone out of concern of losing his private life (according to his comedian friend Ohkawa Tomohide).
NOTE: This isn't me trying to call Toriyama a guy who never spent time with his family. There's been plenty of information suggesting that clearly wasn't the case.

20:32 And with that, for just a moment, Android 18 became everyoneās favorite character (if she wasnāt already). Def gonna try and remember to leave a timestamp for this when it gets to YT if someone doesn't beat me to the punch.

Ahh finally the end of Ribrianne. 18 is forever goated for stopping the biggest villain in DB š

While U2 still plagues the arena, at least the remaining members arenāt nearly as obnoxious. No more poor attempts at magical girl parodies or nauseating levels of positivity.

Alright, now that Ribrianne and her crew are out, I finally get to discuss some key differences with how she is in the manga:
1) In the manga, Ribrianne and U2 arenāt so much obsessed with āloveā but rather superficial beauty. During her fight with 18, Ribrianne claims that sheās the strongest on her planet because her people believe that beauty equates to strength and that 18 is weak and ugly (different beauty standards, clearly). However, she gets furious when she learns that 18 is married to Krillin, who U2 deems as having ālooks beyond perfectionā, and declares their relationship to be an impossibility. While I like this gag, itās immediately ruined by another fighter (who I canāt describe bc spoilers) who eliminates 18 before she gets to send Ribrianne out. Aināt that some shit?
2) While I donāt think Ribrianneās much better in the manga, sheās more tolerable bc she doesnāt get anywhere near as much time in this arc. She gets introduced in her fight with 18 and gets thrown out about 15 pages later, leaving the tournament about as quickly as she started it. Since the mangaās version of the tournament is more ārushedā, you get a lot less of the arcās lows (albeit with less of the highs too).

Episode Elimination Name Puns (Iāve been waiting for this one)
o U2ās Roasie/real name Sous Roas: Her hero name is likely a combo of āroseā and āroastā, fitting U2ās theme of meat puns. Her real name may be inspired by Sous-vide steak.
o U2ās Ribrianne/real name Brianne de Chateau (GOTCHA BITCHššš»): Her hero name might be a play on āribsā and āChateaubriandā steak. Her real name might be a reference to Brienne-le-ChĆ¢teau, a commune in France. French names are associated with gracefulness and beauty in Japan, adding to the gimmick of her being a magical girl parody.
Fighters Remaining: 24/80
