Dragon Ball Super 119 Full Reaction

Why can’t you show the show while you guys watch the ep???

Franky j

And they are bringing back kid Goku’s original VA from OG DB

victoria t

Fixed! Surely I can't mess up the count a third time with so little of the roster remaining right 😆? Appreciate you taking the time to read these and catch something like that.

JT

Can’t wait for y’all to react to Daima soon! I haven’t seen it yet, so I’ll be coming in blind with y’all lol. Fortunately the dub starts releasing early next month, so once y’all wrap up Super you guys will be just in time reacting to Daima

I agree, I hate how the series since late Z had started to nerf and disrespect Piccolo. Don't get me wrong, he still has his moments, but Piccolo in DB/Early DBZ was a BADASS and wouldn't let this slide

J Sal

as a diehard piccolo fan this episode frustrates me, he has the best hearing out of anyone and he was the one to not figure out he was dealing with a bug. Also the overwhelming disrespect to knock out piccolo by a bug just irks me, piccolo deserved a cooler elimination, if piccolo sacrificed himself against the namekians to save Gohan that would have been a far better elimination for me. Universe 4 as a whole was extremely underwhelming and the writers this episode to me felt like they just wanted to get them out of the way so we could get to the final 3 universes which are the most exciting universes. Easily the worst episode in the tournament

Sean Carroll

there are actually only 14 fighters left Universe 3: Paparoni, koitsukai, pancea, bollarator and viarra Universe 7: Goku, vegeta frieza gohan 17 and 18 Universe 11: Jiren Toppo and Dyspo

Sean Carroll

its not a big spoiler and i doubt they will remmeber it as they wont get to that episode for almost another year

Sean Carroll

Frieza being left alone is one of the things that just makes sense. Everyone in the tournament saw him in the first half tormenting anyone dumb enough to even approach him. Nobody but dyspo and top would probably try and fight him but by halftime they decided to stop fighting and save their strength.

Ali

Goku fought Toppo in ep 89 in KK SSB

They are planning to watch OG dragonball

Gus

The invisible man callback to OG dragon ball had me LOLING DND: in OG db, yamcha had to fight an invisible man, so krillin orchestrated a situation where bulma accidentally flashed master roshi, causing him to nosebleed all over the invisible man. Hence the reference

victoria t

Could be that too. Though I could've sworn watching fan discussion videos of who should be considered the big players for the T.o.P kept bringing it up as a major advantage for U11 before we got to this episode or that chapter. Ah well.

JT

Np. You're probably thinking of the Super Manga, if I recall.

Shadowpunch13

Got it 👍. If I remember correctly, that detail had been mentioned somewhere else before this point in the tournament (probably from the DBS website or some magazine scan), so I must've misremembered when it was brought up. My bad! Thanks for letting me know.

JT

Might want to amend that for spoilers, they don't say that in the anime at that point, they only call Toppo a bodyguard.

Shadowpunch13

26:40 I know that you guys have expressed that you don't want Toppo to be a big player bc you don't like his character and want him out, but I want to remind you of how he's been shown thus far: He was capable of matching Goku seriously at Super Saiyan Blue, and didn't flinch when he started using the Kaioken. That SS Blue Kamehameha from 18 moment was impressive (ish), but Goku was severely restraining himself at that point. I like Android 18 as much as the next guy, but saying that she would get thrown out by a "lucky punch" from Toppo is overselling her a bit.

JT

I'm not going to be the one that says this episode sucks, but having Piccolo be defeated by a combatant he quite literally should be best equipped to deal with, was certainly a decision. Side note, the nosebleed comment from Roshi is a reference to OG Dragon Ball when Yamcha had to fight an invisible man, and so someone (Krillin, I think) flashed Bulma's chest to Roshi, causing him to bleed all over the invisible man, thus giving away his position. And honestly, after typing that all out, that probably sounds way worse if you've never seen it or the context before lmao.

Shadowpunch13

15:50 What gets me more is that this moment is one of the few story beats of the T.o.P that are nearly identical between the anime and manga. Piccolo knocks out Gamisalas, and loses to Damon in the same exact manner. With the stupid arm chop on the edge of the arena and all. Makes me think that this moment is one of the moments that was given more focus by Toriyama in his manuscript. We’ve never seen the manuscripts that Toyotarou and Toei used, so most of our idea of what the notes said about the story comes from identical story beats between the anime and manga (which are fairly scarce in this arc). Hurts as a fan of Piccolo.

This episode is considered one of Super’s worst by many, and I couldn’t agree more. While everyone’s got their reasons, here’s mine: o The animosity between Beerus and Quitela suggested to me that Universe 4 was going to be a far bigger deal than it ended up being. While a lot of their members had interesting abilities, I feel like it still didn’t satisfy the build up. o A lot of the action is pretty underwhelming, especially after the hot streak of the last few episodes. A lot of these techniques from U4 could’ve been more impactful in the hands of stronger writing, and the animation is pretty poor. o The big one: Piccolo’s elimination is downright stupid. The guy who’s meant to be one of the more intelligent fighters of U7 backflips toward the edge of the arena and stays there after missing one attack? And doesn’t use his stretchable arms to try and save himself? And (as Piccolo said) not try to use his enhanced Namekian hearing to understand what’s happening? Come on now… Never again am I watching this episode.

JT

Episode Elimination Name Puns o U3’s Space Hero: Catopesra (anagram of “pescatora”, an Italian style of cooking that uses marinara pasta and seafood. Yet another reason I like this guy) o U4’s Invisible Being: Gamisalas (possible play on Garam Masala, a blend of toasted, ground spices common in Indian cuisine) o U4’s Blue Illusionist: Shantsa (play on “shantsai”, the Japanese version of the Chinese word for coriander/Chinese cilantro) o U7’s Piccolo: You probably understand by now that he’s named after the flute-like instrument, but you may have also wondered “Why the name ‘Piccolo’?” Well, Toriyama said that having the name for a villain be “Demon King (insert negative word/name here) would’ve come off as excessive and trying too to sound evil, so he chose a more playful word to help balance the villain’s title out a bit. o U4’s Bug: Damon (might be based on “cardamon”, a spice made from the seeds of a tropical Asian plant) Fighters Remaining: 14/80
